Chicks weren't around long enough.

They had two great years. They formed in 1989, but didn't hit until adding Natalie. You are probably right.

One of the great Rock songs ever by the Great Patty Smyth with Scandal
The Warrior
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47y5bo8wtqM

She IMO really looks good in this video.

Another Scandal song. Could easily be mistaken for a Go-Gos song.

Def Leppard probably my 2 favorites of theirs

Great songs, but come on.
Pour some Sugar on Me.

That was for Matt.

That one's good too, obviously very popular but I like these 2 a little better.

Popular Country Music magazine The Boots 10 best country artists of the decade. Martina squeaks in at 10th, Reba at 8th, Trisha 7th, Dixie Chicks at 5th, Faith Hill 4th, and Shania Twain 2nd. 6 of the top 10 women. No Patty or Pam. No Collin Raye or B&D. No Travis Tritt or Randy Travis.
https://theboot.com/top-90s-country-artists/

That's a totally messed up list.

Our list was better, but we didn't even have Shania. She was definitely second only to Garth for popularity and maybe even more. The only one from that list that didn't belong was probably Reba. They IMO went more by popularity than by quality.

For sure. I dislike most of Shania's stuff, with passion. Dated a hot chick who loved her so I had to bite my tongue for a while. It was a fun month, but she was a little crazier than I wanted to deal with.

No problem. It's a perfectly acceptable opinion. I think Pour Some Sugar is their most iconic song.

Any thoughts on the Scandal songs posted above? The singer Patty is married to Tennis Legend John McEnroe a frustrated musician.

I think Shania is actually very talented and IMO a good person. She raised her younger siblings after their parents died. IIRC.

She's sexy, don't think she's that talented when you hear her sing live. She married her producer, so he could keep her sounding good.

Too many man hating songs for me. She has a couple good ones that I'll listen to, can't think of the names at the moment. I think I posted one a while back, had her riding a motorcycle in kind of a video game looking scene. Gonna Getcha, or something like that is the name.

The Warrior is a great song. Maybe best non-country song of the 80s.

I like Any Man of Mine. It's stupid, but catchy as hell and very danceable. From this moment on a very cheesy, but very good wedding song. Gonna Getcha good is fun, That don't impress me much is fun and good. She did a nice version of Endless Love with Lionel after recovering from some vocal trauma. It's not Diana Ross or Mariah Carey, but still quite good.

Don't be Stupid
You're still the one. All good songs. Her voice is not WC, but she knows how to style a song.

Hey Brian,
Somehow I didn't see this response until just now. So I hit on a good one with both Matt and you from the Rock world. Warrior is the better of the two, but I think Goodbye to you is damn good also. Why do you think that almost 40 years later you've listened to it a lot?

Scandal broke up quickly despite the success as the members couldn't get along. Get this. Jon Bon Jovi was a member of the band in 1983.
Here's Some other minor hits for them

Loves got a line on you. I like it a lot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9zaHWQSyA8
Hands Tied. Not bad at all
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6LZ7uhzgjs
Beat of a Heart. Good I think I'd heard it before
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTqM7W1H9ms

Who knows what could have been.
Patty also had some success with a band called the Hooters.
And we danced. Patty did not sing the lead on this one but it's really good and better than the Brad Paisley song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB1Q-PfUvN0
Where do the Children Go. Patty is singing the lead on this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN_7qH5RZx8

Sorry for how long this is rambling, but the Hooters had a European hit song called Satellite mocking some famous, but terrible IMO Televangelists. If you have a sense of humor about things like this it's great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVXjBMK3EkI

Somehow Patty and McEnroe seem like a good match. They've been together 27 years now.

My wife and I went to a Billy Joel / John Elton Tribute concert at Grand View Lodge 2 summers ago. It was the summer after my mom passed away in January. I started listening to their songs before and after the concert and gradually got into some other rock and roll. I was depressed and crying a lot when country songs would remind me of her. I found that I cried less listening to some rock. I ran into one of the Boston songs I really liked listening to the local Classic Rock station and started listening to them, which also got me back into Def Leppard. Somewhere along the line You Tube brought up The Warrior.

I like her attitude in the video. I like that it's about being a Warrior and that is my high school mascot. I like her voice and the music. I like the toughness of the lyrics. I don't even think about the song in terms of love so much as just being strong. I love at the end when she says "Victory is Mine".

Martina McBride - Anyway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uLtyzRgmyI Very Pretty song with a great message. A middle class man's I Hope You Dance.

Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9TShlMkQnc Cheesy and very good

Brad & Alison - Whiskey Lullaby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZbN_nmxAGk Of all the sad songs ever written I think this is the saddest. It might get my #1 vote.

Heartland - I Loved Her First https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg8Z69B6RFQ Beautiful Father Daughter song.

Sara Evans - A Real Fine Place to Start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrdCBkXB91I Good song. Bad Choice for Sara SotD.

Here are my nominations for country song of the 00s, in alphabetical order:

Always the Love Songs - Eli Young Band This is a very pleasant song that I like a lot. However, a total ripoff of 6th avenue Heartache.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NMxgy1aTUQ

It's Always Somethin' - Joe Diffie I love Joe Diffie. Miss him so much. This would be toward the bottom of my top 10 Joe songs. Maybe just outside.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEbojmPA0-g

Monday Morning Church - Alan Jackson One of two Alan songs you nominated. Very soft and pretty. It wouldn't make my top 10 Alan songs.

Remember When - Alan Jackson Great song. Nobody can question that. I like it a lot, but not as much as most people.
