Sounds like a ploy. I think there is almost zero chance of that being collectively bargained before the start of the season.

The owners and players take longer than that to agree on what to have for lunch during bargaining sessions.

It'll be all be about $ and years for Cruz. As it is for the majority of players.

DO NOT F this up, Twins .... pay the man.

Amen. I liken this to Torii Hunter. The Twins failed to resign him because they failed to realize or appreciate his impact on the team above and beyond his stats. Don't make the same mistake as Buffet Billy.

Anyone subscribe to The Athletic? I see Gleeman has an interesting piece on Hunter, Hawkins and Cuddyer HOF cases. Could someone give us a summary of his analysis?

On Friday, the Minnesota Twins announced that they have added catcher Ben Rortvedt and right-handed pitchers Jordan Balazovic and Bailey Ober to their 40-man roster.

And the homer take
there are a lot of good prospects that were left off of the roster still. The Rule 5 draft will take place December 10th, and players such as Akil Baddoo, Jose Miranda, Yunior Severino, Wander Javier, Luis Rijo, Gabriel Maciel, Griffin Jax, Tyler Wells, and Charlie Barnes were left unprotected.

Only Barnes and Jax played above AA - and had mixed results.

And they've been in the org how long?

Ober was a 12th round draft pick and there aren't enough minor league innings from him to be able to determine much. Twins must like what they see.

He's 25

6'9"

Has lost a couple of seasons to injury and the shutdown.

Time to step on the gas pedal

Nelson Cruz convinced Malik Beasley to sign his extension with the Wolves. That's pretty cool.

The mlb.com "perfect" offseason move for the Twins

Twins: Sign Enrique Hernández -- The Twins could very much use some sort of utility man, and who’s more of a utility man than the Dodgers’ swiss army knife? Just be careful giving him an arm bash after you homer, Twins.

Dang, they're so loaded that a utility guy signing would be the perfect move.

Correct

Nah, needs more seasoning.

Honestly, there is no reason not to. Not to say some half assed reason won't be served up when he doesn't come north with the Twins.

Gotta have that veteran experience

He's not been in game situations at second or third enough

Something stupid

If he's all that then find a spot or move him for front line pitching

Same goes for the other hot rods.

Other teams brought up younger guys than this and had success. What are the Twins afraid of? They're not as good as billed??

The latest list of guys wallowing years in the system that will be rule 5 eligible are more of the same.

They might as well start incorporating younger guys again. Find the ones that know how to win, rather than wade through a few more seasons of participation trophies and lose in the playoffs.

Never really understood that whole "gotta get a utility guy on the roster" , when you always have young guys waiting/wanting to prove something.
Aren't they perfect candidates for that role?
Slowly work them in?
Face it, once the season starts, your "utility guy" is counted on almost every day, as fragile as these players are these days.
So, perfect time to have a projected contributor getting time, hanging around vets, learning the ropes, on the job.
I know its not how Connie Mack or Gardy did it,. but that doesn't mean it couldn't work.

Exactly

Lewis played SS

Fall league has played CF and Third

Gee there's 3 positions already.

And he probably can play second as well. Could have worked him in during instructional league at second.

You have talented players. Are they so fragile upstairs they can't play a couple spots until the older guy is too expensive or sucks?

Agreed. Some of the kids have shown that they take much better at bats than the guys they are trying to unseat. How many more years of Sano in perpetual chase mode do we need to see before they give Rooker or Larnach a look?

At least 2. Has 2 more years on his deal, right?

Not to mention, Rocco can pick the starters he is willing to let Lewis face. Sit him out against pitchers like Bieber until he gets himself established.

We saw Rooker showing great plate discipline when he came up. Same with Kirilloff. When I saw Larnach in ST, veteran pitchers couldn't even get him to flinch with pitches just off the plate. Sano, on the other hand, still chases sliders a foot off the plate.

But he has the highest exit velocity in MLB

Can't give away a guy they've invested so much time in

Can't deal him while his value is lower (which seems to be every year)
