Twins upgraded the dollars in their 1-year offer to Nelson Cruz. But multiple NL teams are showing interest and it’s not surprising he’s waiting to see if a universal DH is adopted.

There you have it. Twins only want a 1-year deal

Probably will sign with the Dodgers or Padres

Keeping Cruz doesn't count as a big move, that's maintaining the status quo. Losing him is a big move in the wrong direction.

So true sigh

ESPN

Schoenfield: I'm not counting J.A. Happ as a big move, so I'm still waiting for the Twins do something interesting to keep up with the White Sox -- re-signing Nelson Cruz, in particular. No, he won't continue mashing forever, but he was the only hitter in the lineup who didn't fall off in 2020 from that record-setting team of 2019. They need Cruz or somebody similar (Marcell Ozuna?). You would think a team that has lost 18 playoff games in a row would want to go all-in, but the Twins seemingly have been content to go about 88% in the past couple of years.

NOT the Twins Way

Jimmy Pohlad's comment about contending sticks with me.

That's as far as they're willing to commit. contend with _____ team, great. That group gets you to the playoffs, great. They go farther, great.

They don't? Oh well, they contended.

After they fired Paul Molitor, in a statement published in the Strib

In the weeks and months to come we will vigorously pursue additional talent on and off the field aimed at helping us achieve our goal of making the Twins a perennial championship contender.

Doesn't mean they want to win it all. Just contend for a championship. Doesn't say WHAT championship.

SOURCE: Marcell Ozuna is seeking a 4-year and up multi-year contract. Six teams have shown interest:

- Red Sox
- Yankees
- Dodgers
- Mets
- Twins
- Brewers

And some say 4 years is too long

OMG

Cruz at 2 years is too long

Ozuna at 4 is too long

WTF

Get out of the pool if you don't want to compete.

Yes, we're interested, but we aren't going to really offer anything after all.

just being in the mix is good news for Twins fans, shows they are willing to spend.

I think this is the b.s. many insist on.

Hopes for the Twins:

Sign Cruz.

Trade for Sonny Gray or Jameson Taillon.

Sign a quality bullpen arm.

Allow Royce Lewis to play SS and Alex Kirilloff to play LF. Make Polanco a super UTIL player.

Yankees acquire Taillon for 4 Prospects.
None of them Top 10.

Twins are thinking about signing a few guys.

Gleeman on Friday 1/22

Derek Falvey made it clear the Twins aren't done making moves.

"We're not finished for the offseason. We know that. We recognize we've got weeks ahead of us. These things have been spilling over into spring training in normal years. We certainly expect that again this year."

We need two Josh Donaldson level acquisitions (1 pitching / 1 SS) along with retaining Cruz. Obviously we don't need the injury issues combined with a short season that went along with signing Donaldson.

Rosario: Current Expectation is Kirilloff
Cruz: Who knows
Bailey: Who knows

You forgot Odorizzi
Adrianza
Gonzalez

None of whom have been replaced

at this point, they'll be looking from within from the minor league players they signed and the studs they've groomed

Lots of money not spend....Adrianza was fairly cheap but Gonzalez, Odor, and Cruz were all over $10 million. Rosario was making money too. Should have over 50 Million in the budget easy.

Should

And reality

are far different

Nerds figure they'll sign 2-3 more guys and spend about 30 mill - tops, with half of that on Cruz. IF he caves and signs a 1 year deal.

If you follow along the discussion...5-7 million was paid to him. Also millions paid to Cruz, Rosario, Gonzalez, Hill, and minor millions to May and Romo. So far Robles and Happ. At least 50 million below last years budget.

Not what Ed and I are talking about....$$$$. Should be plenty of budget to sign Didi, Cruz, and Rosenthal---plus another starter.

With no revenue from fans expect a much smaller budget. This is the Pohlad's team remember. Small market, corn fields, little engine....

Yep

And Cleveland did them one better

Their payroll is now lower than the revenue they'll get from the 2021 TV Revenues

So poor Pohlads, won't get to make the mass millions as normal. Just millions.

Boo frickin' hoo.

one year deal?

Or do you think the Twins cave into demands

Seems Cruz has lost a ton of leverage.
