Albers can't make camp because he's stuck in Canada.

Also, he can't make a team because he sucks.

He hit it hard, he hit it deep, it's gone! Trekkie is doing somersaults around the bases. Terry Ryan has never seen anything so despicable in all his life.

Nothing can be done to fix that situation? Can't bitch or rejoice about MDJ w/o SMF.

To make room for Matt Shoemaker, the #MNTwins outrighted Ian Gibaut. He cleared waivers and has been invited to big-league camp.

Doogie:

Listening to Wes Johnson talk pitching just now & reminded how much the #MNTwins nailed that hire.
Few notes:
1) Maeda worked on his curve yesterday. He's looking to add a consistent 3rd pitch.
2) Pineda is a big influence on Berrios.
3) Stashak is healthy, looks "more physical."

He posted that in the 8am hour

Wait a minute. Are you telling me we had Ian Gibaut all this time?

Strib:

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Twins announced on Friday that 13 players were not in camp for various reasons, including weather delays, visa problems and COVID protocol-related issues.

The team's pitchers and catchers had their first on-field workouts at the CenturyLink complex after reporting yesterday. The full squad has its first workout Tuesday.

The players absent Friday were pitchers Andrew Albers, Jorge Alcala, Danny Coulombe, Tyler Duffey, Jhoan Duran, J.A. Happ, Derek Law, Juan Minaya, Matt Shoemaker, Glenn Sparkman, Ian Gibault and Robinson Layer; and catcher Tomas Telis.

Gibault has to clear waivers and was not eligible to practice; he was DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster for Shoemaker, whose signing was made official.

The Twins did not say which players are affected by COVID issues. The could either have tested positive, been near someone who has tested positive or have taken the test as part of the intake process and are awaiting the results. And players have to agree to clubs announcing them as positive for COVID.

What about Romero. Did he get his visa straightened out yet?

This is gonna be huge. Sign him!!

The future of the Twins' starting rotation will go through Kenta Maeda -- with top prospects Jordan Balazovic and Jhoan Duran likely to factor in, too. Could José Berríos be part of those teams, too?

The Twins' two-time Opening Day starter said Friday that his representatives have engaged with the Twins about the possibility of an extension, though things haven't developed to the point where the sides are discussing any actual numbers, he said.

Berríos, 26, has been one of the club's most prized arms since he was selected in the first round of the 2012 Draft and has steadily improved his performance across five Major League seasons, with a 4.19 career ERA. Though he got off to a shaky start in '20, he finished the season with five strong appearances and a stifling outing in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series against Houston.

"Like, I don't wake up every morning thinking, 'Is that going to happen?'" Berríos said. "But for sure they’re going to help me to be more focused on my work. Like the way I am right now, like I say, I don’t wake up and think about when I’m going to sign, but yeah, for sure, that’s going to be special for me and my family."

Fixing Berríos into the rotation could be significant for the Twins' stability moving forward as they hope to continue to contend. Maeda is under contract through 2023, but the remainder of the rotation -- Michael Pineda, J.A. Happ and likely Matt Shoemaker -- are all bound for free agency following this season. Berríos is currently under contract through '22.

"People call me it and I know I am working for that, but I am the ace of the Twins and I want to be and look like that guy," Berríos said.
