Dane Moore:

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson's deal will be for $1,882,867 (his vet minimum) -- but will only carry a cap hit of $1,620,524.

This leaves $1,451,373 below the luxury tax.

A minimum contract for Jordan McLaughlin would carry a $1,445,697 cap hit. JMac could compete for the 15th spot.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is one of the better free agents still on the market, a solid rotation player who can help at either forward position. Make that was one of the better available free agents, he is headed to Minnesota.

Hollis-Jefferson has agreed to terms with the Timberwolves, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

This is a training camp contract, but Minnesota has the roster space to add Hollis-Jefferson if it chooses.

Which might be a steal for the Timberwolves. Hollis-Jefferson played a solid 18 minutes a night for Toronto in 60 games last season, the challenge is he does not space the floor (he rarely shoots from three, and when he did he hit just 13% last season). However, he can get to the rim, defend, and the rest of his game brings value. He’s a 6’6″ wing who split time between the three and the four with the Raptors and could play both roles for the Timberwolves. Minnesota likely will start Josh Okogie and Juancho Hernangomez at the forward spots, but behind them Hollis-Jefferson will fight for minutes with Jake Layman and Jaden McDaniels.

Apparently "good choices" and "Malik Beasley" do not go hand-in-hand:

Malik Beasley's wife had NO IDEA the NBA star was hanging out with Larsa Pippen in Miami last week until she saw photos online ... and she ain't happy about it!

Sources close to Beasley's wife Montana Yao tell TMZ Sports ... she was "blindsided" when she saw the pics of the Minnesota Timberwolves star arm-in-arm with Pippen during a Nov. 23 outing in Miami.

In the photos, 24-year-old Beasley and 46-year-old Pippen are wearing masks and holding hands while walking out in public. Larsa is wearing a pretty sexy outfit with no bra.

Our sources tell us Yao -- who has a child with Beasley -- had expected Malik to be home in Minnesota for his 24th birthday on Nov. 26 ... and she was disappointed when he didn't make it back.

Then, things got worse when she saw Malik was out galavanting with Larsa.

We're being told Yao is pretty upset about the whole situation -- and doesn't know if things will be salvageable with Malik.

We've reached out to Beasley's camp -- but so far, no comment.

Usure if re-signing Beasley was wise.

He has quite a bit of growing up to do.

Question I have is if he implodes and ends up in prison do we still have to pay him that 60 large?

I was pretty damn surprised when we resigned him. They gave him millions of dollars after he was arrested for threatening a family with a rifle. There is also video of him pointing a gun at his own son. This may not be the kind of behavior you want to reward.

I know it probably happens all the time but this is disappointing. Even more so being out in public daring to get caught. So disrespectful to his wife and child regardless of their situation. And after what has already transpired previously, you would hope he would straighten up. lol she's probably older than his mother. To each their own but for me it is going to be hard for me to root for him going forward. I respect good people more than good athletes. He's young and will hopefully mature. To me the toughest thing holding the NBA from being my favorite sport is the incredible amount of trash that plays in it. percentage based by far the worst of any sport, not even close. My opinion I have no facts backing that up.

After being caught on camera with Larsa Pippen, I wouldn't be surprised if his wife is no longer willing to cop to the two pounds of weed they found is his house.

I think the two pounds of weed are the least of his worries. The child endangerment and the gun charge is much more worrisome.
aybe trade him to the Knicks at the deadline. I guess it is innocent until proven guilty.

In his first media session since April, Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley declined to discuss the charges he’s facing for drug possession and threats of violence stemming from an incident in September at his home in Plymouth.

“It’s a legal issue,” Beasley said. “I cannot really comment on that right now, but I appreciate the Timberwolves’ support and I’m 100% focused on the court this year and doing what we have to do.”

Beasley spoke as the Wolves are holding individual workouts in advance of the NBA’s season, which is set to open December 22.

Beasley recently re-signed with the Wolves on a four-year deal worth up to $60 million, a contract agreed upon after the September incident. His next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.

President Gersson Rosas has said the organization would stand by Beasley throughout the process and Rosas backed up his words in signing Beasley to the new deal.

“We’ve gone above and beyond to make sure that this is a situation that we address in the best way possible, supporting Malik and also creating an environment and a structure where we grow, mature and develop,” Rosas said Wednesday. “But that goes for all of our players, and unfortunately life happens in a lot of different ways, not only to Malik, not only to our players, but our staff and people around our organization.

“And we’re going to learn from it. Our focus is not to make the same mistake over and over again.”

I don't think that a player can sign anything other then a standard NBA contract. He might be suspended, but that is governed by league rules. There are no morals clause.

Correct. The closest thing would be:

quote:

When the player violates Paragraph 16 of the standard NBA contract. The team can void the contract when the player:

• Fails, refuses, or neglects to conform his personal conduct to standards of good citizenship, good moral character (defined as not engaging in acts of moral turpitude, whether or not these acts constitute a crime), and good sportsmanship.

• Commits a significant and inexcusable physical attack against any official or employee of the team or the NBA (other than another player), or any person in attendance at any NBA game or event. The determination as to whether the attack was significant and inexcusable considers the totality of the circumstances, such as the nature of any provocation.

But I'm not sure that's ever been used. And I don't think anything Beasley has done comes close to the point where the team would even consider it.

That second paragraph sounds like the Ron Artest provision.

It was my preference that they didn’t re-sign him. But I’m not surprised they did. Fir as much talk about ‘culture’ they still apparently will make a move for pure on court reasons. I think they felt their options were limited. Beasley was pretty impressive in his short audition last year. I don’t think they could find a way to instantly replace that.

I would hope pointing a rifle at and verbally threatening a family of 3 for sitting in their car or pointing a gun at your own son would satisfy the conditions of ...Fails, refuses, or neglects to conform his personal conduct to standards of good citizenship, good moral character...

You really don't want to be the organization that voided a players contract for off court stuff.

Especially when we still don't know any details outside of a police report.

No, you don't want to be that team that voids a contract, which is why I question signing him in the first place. Granted we don't know much outside of the police report, but there is allegedly video evidence supporting both incidents.

When the Timberwolves were having conversations with Beasley about a new contract, Rosas and Saunders made that clear to him. There is no more flying under the radar. Beasley could be facing a suspension from the league regardless of what happens in court (his next appearance is scheduled for Dec. 17, less than a week before the Wolves open the season). Quite simply, Beasley now is making too much money and will have too big a role on the team for him to be out — for any reason.

“We’ve gone above and beyond to make sure that this is a situation that we address in the best way possible, supporting Malik and also creating an environment and a structure where we grow, mature and develop,” Rosas said.

The Wolves are banking on the culture Rosas and Saunders have implemented and the return to some semblance of normalcy to help Beasley get some more stability in his life. He is a known gym rat, the kind of player who likes to show up at the team facility at the crack of dawn. Not having any structured basketball for more than eight months during the COVID hiatus took a major part of Beasley’s life away, and he said he struggled to fill the gap.

“It’s the longest I haven’t played basketball, organization-wise, since I was a baby,” Beasley said. “It’s been tough not being able to play and be with a team and have the organization. Being back here already, we’re putting in the work.”

Individual workouts have started and, provided everything goes well with COVID testing, the Timberwolves will hold their first full-team workout on Sunday. The Wolves hope that the routine of practice, workouts and games will help Beasley settle into a groove and calm some of the tumult.

It will be a test for the family focus that Rosas emphasizes. The Wolves believe in their ability to help Beasley through it and they believe in Beasley’s ability to move forward in a productive manner. Towns went to visit Beasley at his house not long after the legal issues became public. Saunders and Rosas are both known to engage players directly.

“When we talk about family, it’s not just when things are going well and you’re excited and it’s all positive,” Rosas said. “Family is there in the good times and the bad times. We all have families. Everybody around here has families and there’s things that happen that a lot of us don’t want to happen. A lot of it is not what happens, but how do we respond to that, both as an organization and for Malik in particular.”

I can definitely understand being frustrated and concern for being out this long without playing. With that said, his pointing a gun at a family and making threats and more importantly, having a gun in possession and making threats against your own child is simply unexplainable. I can see Rosas trying to help him as much as they can. But, he has simply gone too far and has thrown out a PR defense. The league is going to punish him significantly for this conduct, even if the courts don't. He may also get punished significantly by the courts.
