I can’t see Portland trading Lillard. Especially for someone like Simons. It wouldn’t make sense for them.

Would you rather have peak Damian Lillard or peak Gary Payton?

Didn't realize Damian is 31 already. Wow.

I don't think Payton's game translates to today's NBA. I'd have to lean Lillard.

He was old for a rookie. Played his entire first year at 22.

I would rather have Curry over both. He has won a championship (when in his prime).

Well Payton wasn’t a good 3 point shooter, so yeah. His was more of a midrange game which is taboo now. But he was such a rock solid player and smart, he’d figure out something to remain relevant in today’s game.

As far as vs Lillard, yeah if we’re talking today’s era, Lillard.

Whoa...

Shams Charania@ShamsCharania
Just in: The Minnesota Timberwolves are parting ways with president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski.

Dane Moore@DaneMooreNBA
For quite some time now there has been dissension in the Timberwolves front office and organization, sources say.

Moving on from Gersson Rosas is not an out of the blue development. In a critical year, with new ownership, the Wolves decided to act now rather than delay.

With new ownership coming in I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise. But why now? Wonder what the rush was. Yes he’s had plenty of misfires, but I think we’re on the verge of being pretty decent this year. Things seemed to be shaping up nicely.

Lore and ARod are just minority owners until after Rosas' contract is up.

That can't be the reason.

That makes the timing more weird then.

In wake of Gersson Rosas' departure, word has circulated among league sources since Summer League that incoming Minnesota Timberwolves owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have communicated they are fond of Sixers general manager Elton Brand. A name to keep an eye on here.

Curry wasn't one of the given choices.

Both of us tried to tell folks it wasn’t the Kumbaya family feel so many wanted to believe. Wonder if Gers will even get the $$ left on his deal?!? Oh, so much to unpack!!

There has been a building discord between Rosas, the rest of the front office and the organization that has been going on for months, sources said. The team decided to take action now before the season begins instead of letting that discord linger.

Word has been out there for many months that Alex Rodriguez + Marc Lore want to hire a “top 5” executive to run basketball operations. The problem was availability.

Around the NBA, Current Wolves executive Sachin Gupta is regarded as one of the most attractive available options

Amidst the loud rumblings that have been out there about the Timberwolves parting ways with Gersson Rosas, I have never once got the sense that Chris Finch's job is at all in jeopardy.

I don't think this is a Simmons thing (or DLo thing) and it seems unlikely to be performance related

Best guess is backstage friction. Heard off and on of some clashes, but didn't seem anything unusual for any FO

Either way, not telling KAT first is Y I K E S

The Timberwolves are promoting VP Sachin Gupta as the new head of basketball operations, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski. Gupta becomes the first person of Indian-origin to run a basketball organization.
