Jon sounds like it is interim:

Jon Krawczynski
@JonKrawczynski
Glen Taylor, Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez will no doubt consider all options when it comes to a permanent leader of the front office. Gupta surely is a candidate for that.

The Timberwolves are promoting VP Sachin Gupta as the new head of basketball operations, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski. Gupta becomes the first person of Indian-origin to run a basketball organization.

A friend of TalkVikes is saying this is very weird. The press release was cold as ice. Is speculating insubordination or something criminal. That sounds kinda crazy to me.

Matt when you report breaking news long after it broke it's a good idea to see if somebody else has already posted it here.

Wasn't Rosas the first Latin American PoBO? Now we have the first Indian PoBO. I guess we are scoring diversity points. Now to fire Finch and replace him with Cheryl Reeve or Becky Hammon.

As I said, Rosas has had some hits and misses. But bottom line, I thought we were in as good shape going into a season as we’ve been in a while. I’m glad Gupta is named interim. Keep some continuity. No need to rock the boat at this point.

I normally don't give much credence to anonymous Tweeters without many followers, but this Hillrat has been on this since July.

And he's followed by Jeff Munneke - who has been with the Timberwolves since 1988.

It kind of smells like a burner account from someone at Target Center...

A timeline of his tweets:

July 29: Heard Rosas is close with his executive assistant and Gupta has seen the goods. Weirdest team ever.

August 5: Rosas gonna be fired due to executive assistant fun

Sept 22: Someone who works there. Grupta had two job offers as well from@the rockets and another team. Rosas blocked it. He was not loved by anyone there

Sept 22: He was having an affair with his personal assistant. Marc Lore interviewed everyone and found out Gupta walked in on him doing the deed. Also he didn’t work well with anyone and everyone hated how he went alone making decisions. This is probably from Marc Lore

2 Hours ago: Yeah takes a bit to work out. Lawyers, contracts and buyouts I imagine

30 Min ago: A lot of the reporters know here but you can’t come out until it happens. It was inside the circle and kept hidden. I think Rosas thought he was in the clear. Marc Lore wouldn’t let this go like Glenn might have.

5 Min ago: Yeah he was fired and from what I was told Rosas did the deed and they opened an internal investigation. He was also not the best to work for. Either way he’s gone.

Wow, yeah who knows, but it would make sense that it was something like that just due to the abruptness of it.

Pro tip. Just get a room.

The team decided to take action now before the season begins instead of letting that discord linger.

Unusual. Glen normally let's things fester until it boils over.

Jon K:

It is also the culmination of months of evaluation by ownership and the franchise’s high-ranking officials about the state of Rosas’ leadership and the direction of the franchise under his watch. Ownership has listened to a vocal contingent of staffers express concern about the way Rosas conducted his business, sources told The Athletic, and finally came to the conclusion that they could not wait any longer to address the situation.

Rosas’ reign was described as dysfunctional, with tension rippling through the front office, according to some sources. Outside of it, rival team executives and agents would complain about how Rosas treated relationships and negotiations. The complaints reached as high as the ownership level over the last several weeks, lending a perception of inevitability to the end of Rosas’ tenure.

In recent days, the organization discovered that Rosas, who is married, had a consensual intimate relationship with a member of the organization, The Athletic has learned from multiple sources. It made several people within the organization uncomfortable, sources said. While this was not the reason for Rosas’ dismissal, it certainly impacted the timing.

Rosas and Gupta butted heads over Rosas’ decision to block Gupta from making a lateral move to the Rockets with increased pay, sources said. Rosas said the timing of the request, coming right before the draft and free agency, made it impossible for the Timberwolves to let someone with as much proprietary knowledge of the team’s plans go to a competitor.

The tension between Rosas and Gupta only grew later in August when Rosas banished Gupta from the team’s offices and granted him permission to seek employment elsewhere, according to sources. The issue was resolved in early September after ownership got involved and Gupta decided to stay.

Prior to the announcement, The Athletic had spent the last several weeks investigating the working environment under Rosas and interviewed numerous sources on the current staff about the situation after learning of mounting discontent. Some said Rosas worked his staff long hours without giving much input into the decision-making process. Others took issue with decisions made on personnel moves and trades, including the light protections on a first-round draft pick that landed them D’Angelo Russell from Golden State, Rosas’ signature move.

“It’s hard,” one member of the organization who followed Rosas to Minnesota after he was hired said. “He’s not who I thought he was.”

must say I am disappointed with more DRAMA. That said, my best friend has a business that has had to work with Wolves/Lynx managment at high levels and says Lynx managment has been a model of excellent organization while he has only seen disfunction in dealing with people with the wolves.

That doesn't make sense, as the Wolves and Lynx are the same organization.

This all sounds like when the Wild dumped Paul Fenton after a year. I hope they do as well as the Wild in moving on to a new top executive.

When you move past the top couple individuals they apparently are not, which would be expected though it raises questions about how two "close" organizations owned by the same person could end up so opposite. I trust my friend's opinion, have known him 55 years, and he is very successful in being CEO of his business, though not a big basketball fan. His experience covers the last couple years

Same ownership, but everything is different after that. They only share the most basic of infrastructure.

The Wolves have been run by mostly incompetents throughout the years.

The Lynx have been run by a single person that will be in the running for both Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year.

Why? Finch actually is a good coach....nothing against Cheryl or Becky.

Agree. I like Finch. Give him a chance. The circumstances of his hire were very odd, but bottom line I think he’ll do a good job this year. There was notable improvement under him last year once he had a chance to get settled a bit.

I am not listening to the noise....It was a decision to keep either Rosas or Gupta. Almost all say Gupta was always the smartest one in the room.

I was being facetious, sarcastic or something like that.
