It's hard to remember a Wild team that could score off the rush like we have been able to recently. Amazing how attacking the offensive zone with 3 players in full stride opens things up rather than maybe one player in full stride because the 2 wingers are still stopped at the blue line waiting for a pass. Now, if only we could get Suter to pick up the pace instead of slowing everything down on the break out.
That line of Rask with Kaprizov and Zuccarello seems to be on the same page, so I say keep them together and see where they go with it.

I was amazed to learn (on the Athletic) that Zuccarello speaks Swedish, Russian, Norwegian, and of course English. Communication on that line will not be a problem.....

I guess he's the Pete Buttigieg of hockey!

Wild throttling the Kings 3-0 after 2. Kaprizov scored a wrap around beauty to open things up.

I would have loved a shutout for Cam Talbot's first game back, but will certainly settle for a decisive home-ice win over L.A.

This Wild team is quickly growing on me and making me think there is a real good chance they make the playoffs this season. Kaprizov is really special and Zuccarello appears to have regained the play he had when he was with the Rangers and looks really good. Bjugstad's quote about him sums up this team right now, "It seems like Zuccarello came into the lineup, he brought his swagger in with it and we all kind of followed."

Hell of a win! .03 remaining and Dumba fakes the goalie out of his jock. This team is fun!

Crazy
Typical Dumba in OT:
Almost gave the game away from Blue line, and then scores winner with a millisecond left.

Beautiful assist from Zuccarello.

And next up is their first game against Vegas this season. We have been on a roll lately, but we have yet to play the top team in the division. That happens tomorrow night, and should be a good test to find out where we stand as a team. I have a feeling we will be able to keep pace with them and make a good game of it.
It sucks that it's back on the road with a late start time.

Wasn't the signing of Zuccarello pretty universally condemned, (for throwing a lot of money at an aging player) or am I thinking of someone else?

I think you are correct. Last season he did indeed look like a very bad signing with his poor play. At that time, who knew he was playing with a bad shoulder that was greatly affecting his game. If he continues to be the player we have seen so far this season, I think a lot of us will have second thoughts about his "bad contract."

Speaking of bad contracts, both Parise and Suter are showing signs of their age catching up to them with 4 more years left of big cap hits after this season.
It will be interesting to see how Guerin handles them with 15 million a year of cap space going to 2 players, both pushing 40 years old.
Zach looks like he is laboring with every stride he takes and Suter has definitely lost a couple of steps since that ankle injury.

Parise has been shown age for a few years now. The relentless cross checks to the back have taken there toll on him. Suter doesn't look a whole lot different to me.

Yeah, I think maybe with Suter he just looks slower because our team speed has increased quit a bit this year.

buyouts coming?

They're not showing up on the stat sheets or game highlights but on occasion.

Kudos to Guerin to shift the focus.

He had the guts to make the needed changes, and look at the results.

No way those two are buyout candidates. Buying out either Suter or Parise would reduce their cap hits 67% of the current number, but stretch it out to 6 years. Between the two that would be over $10M for another 6 years.

Dumba is pushing the nickname Dollar Bill Kirll for Kaprizov. He even had T-shirts made with it. For the record,....what a shitty nickname. We finally have our first emerging potential super star in team history and Dumbo is trying to hang that moniker on him? If that sticks, I will hate Dumba more than ever.

WTF does that even mean?

It means Dumba's nicknames are even dumber than his play in the defensive zone.

LOL, I took it as the kid is money when he gets the puck in scoring position!
I think more than anything he was just joking around rather than trying to put a nickname or moniker on him.

The kid is electric. His vision/awareness is amazing. Everyone on the ice needs to be ready to get the puck when he has it.

Can't decide between Kirill the Thrill and Special K for my personal nickname for him. Might interchange them.

Dumba has been calling him that from day 1. I think he is trying to make it stick. Dollar Bill just sounds cheap. Like the Dollar Store or Dollar Tree or Dollar General.

Solid backup, who stabilized our goal tending after taking the job from NTG. Solid backup. Good teammate. Good dude.

Exactly. Not surprising that some would jump to a negative conclusion here. Dumba has also been arguably the best defenseman on the team this year (along with Brodin).

Alex Stalock, who was the Wild's No. 1 goalie at the end of last season, was claimed off waivers by the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

I had a feeling he would be claimed off the wire. Going north to Edmonton may not go well for him the way they play defense. On the plus side, he could end up their #1 goalie the way it sounds.
