I watched the first two periods, and then turned it back on in time to see the end of the third and the game-winner by Karprizov! Nice game by him, and a good start to the season.

That ice sheet was wretched, by the way. I've never seen pucks slide so poorly on cold water.

Watching the replay, the goalie looks back, and my first thought was "dude how did you do that".

Watching more angles, he never even shot it, moving the puck hit his skate or leg and went in.

and the goalie is looking to the ref if he's going to call it a goal.

Guess that move to steal and score is a pretty sweet play.

Is it legal to score a goal off your skate? Maybe its only waved off if its a skate other than the shooters?

Certainly replay would have seen that?

You can't kick it in, but if it deflects off a skate it's good, which is basically what happened here.

From what I saw of it, there was no kicking motion, thus a good goal.
It's nice that the Wild get some puck luck for a change....

I only watched the first period last night and was wondering if we got ourselves Dube2 after that muffed cover where they score with seconds left in the period.
How did Talbot look the rest of the way?

KK had a great debut and Foligno was good. Dumba and Talbot didn't exactly wrap themselves in glory. We are still soft in our own zone down low. We can't clear the net at all.

Dumba needs to go.

Yeah, Talbot was reminding of Dubes on one with 4 seconds left in period...

But Special K was everywhere, doing everything.

I just watched the highlights. I don't have cable this year so I will be watching a lot of highlight videos. The winning goal was sort of a fluke, as you guys are saying, but I think goal scorers have a way creating their own luck with their quick hands and flurry of action in a micro-second. More ordinary players are more deliberate. It's nice to have a superstar play for the team- I hope that's what he becomes for the Wild.

Wild pull off another OT win coming from 2 down to start the 3rd and I missed the finish again.
Too bad most of our games this season will mean a person has to stay up until midnight to see them or else DVR and watch them after the fact.
Could be a fun team to watch, but it is very obvious already that we are sorely missing a true #1 and #2 center.

How 'bout them Wild! It's still a very different game without the fans, isn't it. The margin of victory was so slim. Trailing by a goal late, they had a lucky bounce off a pipe with an empty net and then score with a second left in regulation to tie. They get the game winner with just a few seconds left in overtime. Amazing. The Wild should be thanking their lucky stars after a win like this.

Lucky win but you have to take it. Disturbing trends setting in. Talbot is Dubnyk 2.0. Makes routine save anything but which is kicking out easy to put in rebounds.

Yep. I'm not even sure how Suter scored there. It looked totally harmless.

Victor Rask will go back to centering the top line after the forward groups were scrambled Saturday, and goalie Cam Talbot will make his third straight start to open the season after he backstopped the Wild to both late-game rallies against the Kings.

Rask couldn't get on the ice last season and now he is our #1 center.
Let's hope Dumba tears it up early so we can get ourselves a true #1 center as soon as possible.

Kaprizov named NHL First Star, NHLPA Player of the Week

On the heels of standout performances in his first two career games in the league, the Wild announced today that Kaprizov has won two awards: the NHL Players Association’s Player of the Week award, and the NHL’s First Star of the Week.

Kaprizov’s honors come after the Russian phenom had an incredible debut against the Los Angeles Kings, earning two assists and scoring his first NHL goal in overtime, completing the Wild’s comeback victory. Kaprizov followed up his auspicious debut opener with the primary assist on Marcus Johansson’s overtime winning goal, giving the Wild their second come-from-behind OT victory over LA in as many games.

The last Wild player to be named either the NHL’s First Star or Player of the Week by the NHLPA was Kevin Fiala, who earned both awards with his play during the end of February of last season, earning four goals and five assists over nine games and was in the midst of a four-game point streak.

That one had nothing to do with Cam. He had no chance on their goal and played well. The bad rebounds I mentioned didn't happen last night. He was really solid.

That's good to hear JJ!

If he can play solid, then we can win if our guys (Rask) bury their opportunities.

I didn't get a chance to watch much of the game, but saw Rask choke with a wide open net.

Agree with ST, we need to trade Dumb-a for a top Center.

I can't see anyone giving up a top center for Dumba, even if he starts pumping in goals at the rate he did before his injury. A top line center is probably the hardest thing to find in the NHL. Teams that have them, don't give them up, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

After 5 minutes last night, it looked like the Wild would end up scoring 4 goals. Of course, in the first two games you would have assume a 'L' after two periods.

No matter the sport, we all dream of the other team being willing to pay a premium price for players we don't want.
