My sense is that Vera-Tucker is fading as we approach the draft. Of course I don't really know anything, but I figure that since he is seen more as a guard and his athletic numbers were a bit pedestrian, he may not be on the Vikings short list for a pick at #14. It's possible Darrisaw and Slater go before us and then the Vikings select Paye. I'm just wondering if Darrisaw and Slater are gone, then a really good player will fall to us. I wonder who that will be. If it's a quarterback, then perhaps the Vikings will trade back.

Just speculating and thinking out loud. Better than quarreling though, right?

i saw vera-tucker mock deep in the 2nd round a month back - i see that as good for us...it reinforces the trade back philosophy - don't fall for the media mock bullshit...he's the same player we loved before, if we can gain a 2nd and grab him the more power to us....

i still say micah parsons or trade back, and then use our many 3rds and 4ths to trade up and draft some solid dropping talent...i would shoot for three picks in the first two rounds and two picks in the 3rd...trade with a seattle or if a qb falls and a team is willing to overpay....

So if we trade back...is there a backup QBOTF that we can draft in the 2nd round if we draft OLINE in the first?

it's my understanding that as of the 4th day of the new league year cousins has a guaranteed contract through 2022, and has a 'no trade' clause...please tell me if i'm wrong....

Yes, as well as a 30% stake in the team and 20% of the concession & jersey profits.

No wonder he folds like a turtle at the first sign of a pass rush, all the coin in his contract is guaranteed.

i only mentioned it because i get a sense that some here think that we might replace cousins next season - something very unusual would have to take place for that to happen....

I don't think the guarantees that become locked in, nor even the no-trade clause, will sway anyone. Let 'em dream!

Some like him, some don't like him. But even if you l-o-v-e-d him before ... the fact that his stock is dropping, maybe it should influence you to consider other players besides Vera-Tucker. Even with an additional pick after a trade down.

Is he dropping because his reputation after the season hasn't held up when scrutinized by the draft process ... or have other players been pushed up in front of him because they run well between three cones? Not sure.

But ... somebody will gamble in front of us, leaving us a very good player if we stay at 14.

If we trade back, I'm still looking for the highest valued player available ... and not picking a guy we liked at the start of the draft process who has fizzled (but is ok if we can get him and an extra pick or two).

I'd prefer to move up in the first for Fields or Lance but if we could grab Mond in the 2nd or early 3rd; I'd be pretty happy

Kellen Mond Scouting Report

Positives: Athletic quarterback with a next-level arm who flashes brilliance. Patient in the pocket and buys as much time as necessary. Senses the rush and steps up to avoid defenders. Athletic, easily eludes defenders, and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary. Possesses a quick release and a live arm, gets speed on throws, and easily drives downfield passes. Fires the ball through tight windows, leads receivers with passes, and throws targets open. Loses no ball speed throwing on the move.

Displays a sense of timing and does not have receivers waiting for the ball to arrive. Knows where his targets are on the field and quickly locates the open wideout. Spreads the ball around and uses all his receivers. Sets up screen throws, puts touch on passes, and delivers a catchable ball. Effectively commands the offense.

Featured | 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Tony Pauline sees quarterbacks in high demand

Negatives: Very slow moving his head away from the primary target and gives away passes at times. Must do a better job selling ball fakes. Can be erratic with his pass placement.

Analysis: Mond is an athletic quarterback who displayed a lot of progress in his game last season. He possesses a terrific amount of upside and has starting potential at the next level if he gets hooked up with the proper coach and continues developing his game.

Would you trade Cousins for the Niners pick (#3) and Jimmy Garoppolo? Would it make sense for the Niners to do that?

If the Vikings are at #14 and one of the first round quarterbacks are still available, the Patriots, Bears, Steelers and even the Bucs might be willing trading partners. Which one would you prefer?

I just want to hand in our card and add the 2nd or 3rd best OL available in this draft. Not worried about value at 14 vs 20. I don't want to hear we had 5 grouped together so we let other teams dictate our direction and traded down. Just take care of business.

Don't trade back even one spot if the Patriots want that quarterback so badly?

ESPN Insider seems to have Darrisaw as an end of the first round talent. Go figure. Vera-Tucker is at #14.

What's your opinion on this?

Slater makes it to #9. Speilman gives his old buddy Paton(Denver) a call. A 3rd and a 4th give us the value to get us to #9(Draft Tek chart).

San Diego(#13)wants OLine badly.

Do you make the trade?

Some prospect descriptions that should be post-it noted on our draft board:

I don't know what all the numbers mean, but it sounds like the kind of player the Vikings like to draft. (on day two, I gather)

Update from @UHCougarFB pro-day. DE Payton Turner with 23 bench reps with 35 3/8 arms is one of more impressive numbers this spring. Also 35.5 VJ at 6054/268.👀👀

Payton Turner is a DE prospect in the 2021 draft class. He scored a 9.82 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 26 out of 1361 DE from 1987 to 2021.

Turner only just qualified, but was trending towards a fantastic score regardless.

Just noticed that Daniel Jeremiah rates Mayfield out of Michigan ahead of Darrisaw. Hmmm. Lots of options on a trade back.

Good ones. Wish I could remember what was said about a IOL last year about working in a phone booth. It wasn't the phone booth part because that's used a lot, but about how he battled in the phone booth. Oldies but goodies include fire hydrant body, computer feet. For Vera-Tucker, T-Rex limbs.

Looks like a case of another team (San Diego in this case) dictating our direction.

Just how many picks are you willing to use to get Slater? What if Denver (#9) wants OL badly? Give up #14 and all our 3rds and 4ths to get to #7?
