ORIGINAL: Bill Jandro Nice write up here https://www.dailynorseman.com/2021/4/12/22368849/vikings-looking-to-draft-a-guard-not-a-tackle It's disconcerting to read that the top prospects on the o-line this year would not be the top prospects last year. That makes me think that the drop off between the first round and the second and third rounds is not not too much. The solution for that would be to trade back, or to choose a player in the first round at another position. (or to reach based on need) Since evaluation is subjective, it really matters how the Vikings specifically evaluate the players. When I read the draft profiles, I see some variance. For example, the top prospect by most (Slater) may not be a good fit at tackle- or he might still. It's not clear. I don't the Vikings would care which position he would play. Vera-Tucker seems like a perfect fit for guard (but #14 is pretty high for a guard) and Darrisaw seems to be the prototypical LT, which is why I like him the best, but he is reportedly more raw. I do believe some of these players are going to go higher than expected, or much lower than expected. The latter would serve the Vikings well with their multiple third round picks. And it does seem that some of the players selected after these top three could prove to be really good guards in the NFL, even if they didn't play that position in college. I've always liked to think of myself as a best player available guy, especially in the first round. So we'll have to see how the players fall before the Vikings and if they do trade their pick either up or down. So I'm not really locked into any particular player. There will be some really good choices at #14. That I believe strongly.
