BPA at IOL-DE-QB-S-WR in late 2nd

We are down to three gaping holes, backup QB, G and DE. For me, that is encouraging from where the offseason started.

I am also encouraged we are going young at Backup QB, a stiff is usually one of our first plays in March ... I’m thinking that is our next priority.

IOL is still your tiebraker between the other positions ... the DL is much much stronger as is than the OL and Weatherly Wonnum trump Dozier Cole.

DE is your 2nd tiebreaker because, well, Weatherly Wonnum.

Wr, S in the 4th.

I actually like the DE we have...don't sleep on Willekes (injured last year) and Wonnum and the sleeper Brailford plus Barr might play some at DE. Also we have Holmes.

I see Barr at DE on passing downs with LB Vigil in the mix.

I agree Pager..

Exactly the QB's I want us to target (Mills, Mond or Newman). I read somewhere late last night (so not sure where) that if Rodgers somehow ends up in Denver, we would be in on a trade for Drew Lock for a 4th or 5th rd pick? Thoughts?

Drew Lock is terrible. Maybe the worst starter in the league.

I would rather draft two QBs than trade those two picks.

Actually trading a 5th rd pick for Minshew would make a lot of sense.

I'm going off the board with Zac Thomas (Appalachian State) in a late round at QB.

Any drafted qb would be comfort food compared to mannion.

Plus, we are not looking for somebody ready now ... which is good, time to improve. He wont sniff the field until Cousins leaves based on contract.

Wish our best players shared Cousins’ durability ... its just one more snarky Vikes jab by the football goods.

If Gee Willikers was injured last year, what gives you any optimism that he is an option?

We have back-up options until they prove otherwise.

If we can find a starting G on day 2 here we'll have drafted our entire OL within the last 4 years. People will have to find something new to slam Spielman on.

How about if Mac Jones turns out to be a stud? Hindsight, but if Cousins hadn't been renewed, it would have been a good year to draft a QB.

The franchise has clearly chosen the perception of relevance---playoffs every other year with very little chance of reaching the Super Bowl---over cycling out of bad decisions (in fact, often doubling down instead). I'm not at all high on Jones, but over the last several years going back to sticking with Ponder, trading for Bradford, and maybe extending Kirk, the Vikings have made a series of franchise defining moves at QB that haven't worked out (at least not yet in Kirk's case).

+1 except I would go lower.... He was a 6th rounder I believe.

I'd guess that the next pick is for someone on defense. Zimmer is the coach after all. If I had to guess the order of positions that RS takes it would be:

DT-S-DE-G-WR-CB-QB-RB-TE

Overall, I thought the move that Minnesota made to get two thirds and Darrisaw was a solid play. They needed an OT and they got a decent one. They needed added depth in the draft as a result of not much action in free agency, and got two third-round picks. I would have rather seen a second round pick, but they only had so much leverage and the #66 is fairly close to a late second. Now they need to get at least one solid interior guy in the third, and they've got a handful of picks to make it happen.

Actually, they need a Day 1 starter at OG, so they'd better know how they're getting that. Maybe there's a guy they've ID'd, maybe there's a move with a current pro (trade or street FA) that they know they can make to find a starter.

But one thing is 100% clear: Dozier ain't it.

It's encouraging to hear Spielman say that they're looking for bigger, stronger offensive linemen. It's about time. Ben Cleveland sounds like he'd be a nice addition in the 3rd round.

Agree on all. but he got extremely lucky Darrisaw was there.

What worries me is that Spielman will now think he's done enough for the oline and won't address G until the 6th rd. I'm also afraid he's going to trade down vs up and accumulate a bunch of 7th rd picks. Not sure Spielman can help himself regarding this accumulation of late rders.

They should have Bohumm's TalkVikes posts from the last month plastered to the wall in giant font in the Vikings war room in case Spielman ever feels he's done enough for the oline.

Probably need just one since I may have, eh, repeated myself a bit.

You have to look at who'd be willing to trade right out of the 2nd for 2 3rds.

I see 2 reasonable candidates.

Arizona at 49 who doesn't own a 3rd or 4th rp.

KC...who didn't have a 1st, have 2 2nds, no 3rds, and a late 4th.

Yesterday I posted a list of OGs I liked and mentioned that Kendrick Green was a ‘microscopic’ 6’2. He is 6’4 315 ... my mistake.

Former DL, one of the more explosive iol in the draft ... posters ripped him off my list based on my misinformation but he’s back on.

Given Spielman’s bigger at OL comment yesterday, neanderthal Cleveland would be a great pick ... maybe Carman in the third.

If Spielman wants to crush it, another G in the 4th like Green. Pure greed I know but the draft was made for frothing at the mouth over potential backups.

If Aaron Rodgers does leave, where does he go? Is Denver willing to play ball? Perhaps the Raiders? Miami?

Jeopardy tapes on the West Coast. Denver and Raiders....

I do think it was because they surprised him by drafting a QB instead of some help last year but it was Aaron being Aaron by leaking it around draft time for revenge.

Still surprised they didn't draft Johnson.

I totally disagree. Barr was very good in coverage and Zimmer's defense is based on coverage.

You're talking about situational edge situations. There are any number of packages Zim could roll with to handle that coverage if he wanted Barr to plant his hand in the dirt for a play. He would rather disguise it and blitz Barr.

It was a bizarre move either way. If Rodgers really wanted to play elsewhere, he would have been better suited to drop that news the day the season ended rather than waiting until day one of the draft. No way was Green Bay going to be able to look at all avenues in less than eight hours.

He stuck it to them for last year. No doubt in my mind.

If I were Denver, I'd be on the phone offering everything I can along with the kitchen sink. That's a team a quarterback away from being very good.

Denver with Rodgers:

QB: Rodgers
WR: Jeudy, Sutton and Patrick
TE: Fant
RB: Gordon

And a decent young defense. Watch out.

This would border on my Bohringer prediction.

the vikings can move up into the 2nd round twice at pick numbers 55 & 59 and still keep their 3rd round #66 and 6th round 199....
