ORIGINAL: Bruce Johnson How old was Pat Williams when we picked him up? Edit:. Just checked. He was 32 going on 33. I agree we would need a good medical evaluation. Fat Pat was a line clogging, gap plugging nose tackle, not a 3T who is expected to generate inside pass rush. Good point. I just checked about the other half of the Williams Wall, Kevin Williams. His last year with the Vikings he was 33. He did go on to play two more years. I don't know at what level he played at the end of his career. I do often think and sometimes say that football is a young man's game. If there is a position on defense where a player could do well into the 30's, I believe it would be defensive tackle. We had Newman play until he was receiving social security payments, though. He was special in that regard. When I think about it, Eller and Marshall had long careers. I don't remember clearly what level of play they finished their career. Just checking, Eller played until he was 37. Wow. Marshall played until he was 42. Double wow. He was something else. So defensive ends can play a long time, too. It's got to be rare, though. They have to be special.
