Is there any way we could get Thuney and solve our LG problems?

If we can find a way to dump enough salary, anything is possible.

At this point I'd take overrated in light of our guards.

The way the landscape is looking a lot of teams are going to have to purge salaries.

Might be numerous one year deals with quality players hoping things bounce back in 2022. Sadly i don't think we will be a player in this free for all.

the Saints just released Nick Easton, who started at LG for the Vikings in 2017.

His stats in 12 games:

- 0 sacks
- 3 hits
- 12 total pressures

Vikings should explore bringing him back home. He would be cheap and a huge upgrade over Dozier

#Vikings who have base salary guarantees triggering on March 19th:

Kirk Cousins ($35M 2022 base)
Adam Thielen ($9.1M)
Anthony Barr ($7.1M)
Riley Reiff ($5M roster bonus)
Danielle Hunter ($3.3M)
Britton Colquitt ($1.8M)
Dan Bailey ($1.8M)
Dalvin Cook ($1.5M)
CJ Ham ($1.1M)

(Sean Borman on Twitter)

When does free agency begin? After March 19th? Regardless, important personnel decisions are to be made in the next few weeks. Just checked. Free agency begins interestingly just before- at 4 PM on March 17th.

He better be cheap. Not much production last year.

Get him and still draft Barmore.

Yeah, if this was 2012 or even 2015. Might as well pick up Carlos Dunlap and Burfict as we turn back the clock.

Atkins' better days are behind him. Pass on that.

Agreed. He turns 33 next month and he is coming off shoulder surgery. Old and injured is not good for a 3T. It would be one thing if he was a big fat NT who primary roll is to clog up the line. Go young.

Atkins played in 9 games last season, didn't start, only played 119 defensive snaps and logged just 1 tackle.

Torn shoulder labrum the prior season. A 3T really needs to be good upper body wise using hands and arms. Atkins might be cooked.

Let's be clear on this.

I am just about 50, 5'6" and weigh 220 lbs....and I would be an upgrade over Dozier.

I would be ok bringing Easton back.

How old was Pat Williams when we picked him up?

Edit:. Just checked. He was 32 going on 33.

I agree we would need a good medical evaluation.

Fat Pat was a line clogging, gap plugging nose tackle, not a 3T who is expected to generate inside pass rush.

We used to tease a co-worker about being center at 5'11" for the TWolves 20 years ago when there was only KG.....

Good point. I just checked about the other half of the Williams Wall, Kevin Williams. His last year with the Vikings he was 33. He did go on to play two more years. I don't know at what level he played at the end of his career.

I do often think and sometimes say that football is a young man's game. If there is a position on defense where a player could do well into the 30's, I believe it would be defensive tackle. We had Newman play until he was receiving social security payments, though. He was special in that regard.

When I think about it, Eller and Marshall had long careers. I don't remember clearly what level of play they finished their career. Just checking, Eller played until he was 37. Wow. Marshall played until he was 42. Double wow. He was something else. So defensive ends can play a long time, too. It's got to be rare, though. They have to be special.

I'm seeing some love to keep Davis in Purple.

"Is it too early to start my "Keep Todd Davis in Minnesota" campaign?

for real though, he brings a few vital things...
-a LB3 that is good vs the run
-not a huge liability in coverage
-he's the same age as Barr & EK
-likely isn't going to break the bank
-his drip is exquisite"

This article talks about Carl Eller playing too long and others. Football really is a young man's game.

If you look at when most players retire, it is right around the time they qualify for retirement benefits. Used to be nine years. May be 10 years now. Might even get something after three years now. Not sure.

If healthy, a potential fit:

The Carolina Panthers are releasing two-time Pro-Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Short, the Panthers' best defensive player, has played in a combined five games over the past two seasons, as his 2019 and 2020 campaigns were cut short by season-ending shoulder surgeries.

He was heading into the final year of a five-year, $80 million contract he signed in 2017 after having 23.5 sacks during a three-year span. He has since had only three sacks, all in 2018, when he started 14 games.

Short was set to count $20.8 million against this year's cap, but by releasing him the Panthers can save $14.5 million.

By the sound of things that's a might big if.
