i missed the news, but we've reworked barr's deal...right now we're at $3m under the cap - excluding the linebacker we signed from the chargers/bengals....

Vikings restructured LB Anthony Barr's contract.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the deal reduces his 2021 salary of $12.3 million to a lower number but also shortens the length of his contract. He will now hit free agency in 2022 instead of 2023. At 28 years old, Barr could be on the tail end of his prime by the time he becomes a free agent. One more shot at a major contract during the peak years of his career could be well worth taking a small hit in salary this year. Barr gets that opportunity while the Vikings save some cap space in an offseason where that is a priority for nearly every team. Barr missed all but two games last year because of a torn pectoral muscle.

Packers lost a very underrated player up front in Corey Linsley, IMO. Chargers are spending a lot of money to protect Justin Herbert. Also got a guy from the Steelers. Watch for that kid to have a monster year.

I hope I have the opportunity to come in here and say I was insanely wrong about Tomlinson, but adding an additional NT at $11mil per, and passing on Kevin Zeitler at $7.3 makes absolutely no sense to me!

Again I hope I’m wayyyyy off.

Maybe LB Nick Vigil will put you in a better mood.

Vikings agree to 1-year deal with LB Nick Vigil

Former Bengal and Charger Nick Vigil has agreed to a deal with the Vikings.

KSTP Sports

The Vikings' defense was one of the worst in the NFL in 2020. On the first day of free agency, they added help, agreeing to deals with DT Dalvin Tomlinson and LB Nick Vigil.

Vigil will sign a 1-year deal, a source tells KSTP Sports. It's worth $1.35M guaranteed.

Vigil, 27, spent last season with the Chargers. He played 15 games with two starts, seeing action on 312 defensive snaps and 216 on special teams. He recorded 50 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Vigil began his career in Cincinnati after the Bengals made him a third-round choice in 2016. New Vikings' senior defensive consultant, Paul Guenther, was the Bengals' defensive coordinator when they selected Vigil. In other words, he knows him well.

Vigil's addition seemingly signals the end of Eric Wilson's time with the Vikings. He's an unrestricted free agent.

Nick Vigil was a tackling machine at Utah State coming out of college. He played 4 years in Cincinnati and his best year was 2019 with 111 tackles starting all 16 games. Nick went to the Chargers last year and only got two starts in 15 games played, but still had a respectable 50 tackles. He isn’t a sack artist or pass-rushing specialist with only 4 sacks in his career.

Looks like a great depth signing.

I like the Tomlinson signing.

If we find another Griff or Hunter with one of 4 4ths...look out!

They seem to be able to develop DE easier than NT/DT. I really like what Wonnum and Brailford showed last year at DE...

Unfreakingreal we now have TWO I tell you TWO NOSE TACKLES.

$11 million for this dude...

Sorry Spielman has completely lost me.

Tomlinson's deal with the Vikings is for two years and worth up to $22 million, with $20 million of it fully guaranteed. He'll reportedly earn $16 million in Year 1, and have an opportunity to immediately negotiate a new deal one year from now -- for 2023 and beyond -- be it in Minnesota or elsewhere.

Well next year he can sit down at the table with us...but elsewhere.. not unless we release him.

Its really not favorable for us unless he balls out.

I like the Tomlinson signing but neither projected starting DT offers a lot in sacks, maybe they can pressure the QB.

Mid-tier guy but coming off his first contract so hopefully under the radar.

Might have overpaid some but a lot of teams have a lot of cap room even with the reduced cap so players will be pricy.

Barr and Kendricks are going to have a monster season if they can stay healthy. The Vikings still need to address their pass rush, though.

i think/hope we're still going after griffen...i could live with; hunter, wonnum, weatherly, willekes - griffen...and perhaps a new kid in this year's draft....

plus, if we could develop watts and lynch in the middle that would be very helpful....

i always considered rashod hill a good backup tackle, but i'm getting a feeling that this season spielman sees him as a starting guard....

I don't think he has ever played a snap for us at G. One would think he would have been used there considering how bad we were at G last season.

Phil, I'm agreeing with you left and right!!! Add in Weatherly and I see no real pressure to draft at DE in the first this year unless he's special.

Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.

G at 14? No.
S at 14? No. Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.
3WR at 14? No.

Some things point to a trade down unless they love a DE.

Packers tried trading for him last year....We paid Pierce 9 million a year....so we will see.

If this move works out and we are able to stop the run again and open up things for our LB (Rodgers hates pressure up the middle). We still have Hunter and a better group of DE. Willekes hardly played last year.

And New England strikes again: The Patriots are signing former Chargers' TE Hunter Henry to a three-year, $37.5 million deal, including $25 million guaranteed, per source.

Free agency's top two tight ends, Henry and Jonnu Smith, wind up in New England.

At DE we have Hunter with a questionable neck injury and possible salary issues combined with a bunch of unknowns and veteran part timers.

I can see them signing a 10 year vet at safety who they can trumpet as "intelligent, can help with the young secondary, will get players into their exact spots +/- 3 millimeters."

We still need to cut or heavily renegotiate Stephen's contract. Adds a few mil. Enough to get a lower tier G whose agent is going to get a deal in lieu of getting maybe nothing.

Extending Smith and restructuring Thielen could get us 10-12M in cap space.

Keanu Neal is another safety that has come up with the #Vikings. Seems one way or another, they’ll add some safety via free agency, which still has a LONG way to go!

Watts can finally settle in at 3Tech. Lynch gets a full off season, also to concentrate on 3Tech.

Holmes probably running out of chances so draft a DE/DT type in 4th or 5th round.
