If healthy, a potential fit:

The Carolina Panthers are releasing two-time Pro-Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Short, the Panthers' best defensive player, has played in a combined five games over the past two seasons, as his 2019 and 2020 campaigns were cut short by season-ending shoulder surgeries.

He was heading into the final year of a five-year, $80 million contract he signed in 2017 after having 23.5 sacks during a three-year span. He has since had only three sacks, all in 2018, when he started 14 games.

Short was set to count $20.8 million against this year's cap, but by releasing him the Panthers can save $14.5 million.

A guy who has played a total of 5 games over the last 2 seasons is not anyone's "best player".

Some stock pickers like to select out of favor stocks- ones that have more intrinsic value than reflected in their stock price. Short might be like that. I would want a good medical evaluation on him, though.

Edited stock pickers instead of stick pickers. Ouch, but you got my point.

Short's injury history is worse than Atkins. Neither are any kind of solution

#Vikings expected to target #Jaguars WR Keelan Cole. He has a "very good" relationship with WR coach Kennan McCardell.

NFL Rumors on Twitter

I found this article about him.

Cole is coming off a one-year, $3.2 million contract. He has produced decent numbers and is entering his fifth year in the league. Seems like a perfect fit for our #3.

For just a third this year and a conditional second that could turn into a first next year. Surprisingly little.

I'm not surprised by the compensation. Wentz's status has declined steadily from his breakout year.

No quarterback drafted in the first round from 2009 to 2016 is still with his original team now that Wentz is traded. Hmm. I think Teddy was one of them and Ponder too probably.

Wentz screwed Philly by letting it out he really didn’t want to play for Bears.

His trade value took a big hit on that nugget.

And he helped his new team. I guess if it were me I would be more loyal to the team that wanted me than the one trying to get rid of me.

Exactly. Watson for example is really in a no win situation. The Texans clearly are the worst team in football but his new team will simply be crippled by the cost of aquiring him.

I would give five future first round picks for Mahomes. I am not convinced Watson is worth three.

carolina cut weatherly...i think that weatherly is a good fit in zimmer's scheme - i'd rather have him than odenigbo...if hunter is healthy, i think that reacquiring griffen and weatherly, along with wonnum and odenigbo would stabilize the d-end position for 2021...maybe a 4th round draft pick replaces ifeadi....

also, tre boston was cut - he might be a good possibility as a short-term-fix free agent safety....

I wouldn't give five first round picks for Mahomes. However, having said that, I also would not have signed Cousins for $33-million a year. The bottom line is, we are cap purgatory for at least another year or two because of the horrid contracts the moronic general manager has handed out. There's no simple answer short of the Houston ownership going QAnon and trading us Watson straight up for Cousins.

on spotrac's roster/salary cap manager i developed $49m in cap space - leaving us $39m under the cap...to do this i did the following....

fired:
reiff (try to trade him)
rudolph ( try to trade him)
stephen
bailey
colquitt

restructured:
hunter
barr
thielen

i could have squeezed out a little more cap space with a kendricks, smith and/or ham restructure....

free agent/trade signings:
lane taylor (g) - $8m
james carpenter (g) - $4m (trade 4th or 5th round pick to Atlanta)
tre boston (s) - $4m
griffen (de) - $2.5m
weatherly (de) - $2.5m
todd davis (lb) - $2m
infeadi (de) - $1m
roshod hill (ot) - $2m
Abdullah (rb) - $1m
wide receiver #3 - $3.5m

all of the above leaves us with $8.5m of cap space left....

then we draft:
barmore
best guard

The first part of this article details a similar plan how to get some caps space.

https://www.dailynorseman.com/2021/2/16/22286376/minnesota-vikings-offseason-plan-v2-0

Author also ext Smith and O'neal. He had 17,1ml so your number looks questionable.

That’s a good plan. We get our lines shored up and add depth.

two ex-vikings' free agents that played well as depth in zimmer's system - i think we should try to sign them cheap....

stephen weatherly
jayron kearse

also, i would be in favor of signing griffen cheap if possible - everyone has written something they regret on twitter - just keep him on his meds....
