also, i would be in favor of signing griffen cheap if possible - everyone has written something they regret on twitter - just keep him on his meds....

I'd want Griffen thoroughly vetted before bringing him onto another NFL team. In my opinion he needs professional help and would be best served if he stepped away from football.

I’m certain he’s been getting medical help for several years...and yeah, give him a thorough going over....

I hope you're correct and he's getting help. Mental illness gets swept under the rug so quick and easily and it wouldn't surprise me if that's no different (if not even more so) for professional athletes.

Houston released duke Johnson and starting center nick martin. They were already nine mil under the cap.

Doogie:

• Anthony Barr is “anti-any sort of restructure”
• “There WILL be talks” between the #Vikings and Harrison Smith regarding an extension
• No trade talks yet with Ravens involving Orlando Brown Jr.
• Expectation is Kyle Rudolph will be cut

I would not be signing Harrison Smith to an extension. It's diminishing returns at this point.

What we are is a 7th seeded one and done playoff team. Spielman and Zimmer's run ended in 2017. Now were just avoiding the inevitable rebuild and it only is going to make things more difficult cap wise to do this when you have the top two guys on short extensions and warm seats.

With the injury factor good luck releasing Barr on favorable cap terms if he doesn't renegotiate.

I think we net 7.2M(cap room) just releasing him.

Yes. His cap hits 2021 and forward are roughly $15, $15, and $18. He’s got $7.8 left in guaranteed money spread over the three contract years (all hits at once if released). So yeah no surprise he wants no part of a restructure as he’s sitting on one of the most over-inflated contracts of all time. If we do release him his next contract will be much smaller but he’ll see significant upfront money (guaranteed). He can only lose by restructuring with the vikes.

I struggle to decide which was a worse management move between Barr’s contract (after he was nearly gone to the jets) or cousins’ extension. I was all for the cousins signing - the three year deal, but the extension seemed dumb as it appeared by then that he wasn’t a good fit.

Dump Reiff, Barr and Rudy. Gain 26M in cap space.

We are 7M over right now.

Go make a splash with Thuney or Scherff and shore up line. Cleveland/Thuney or Scherff/Bradbury/3rd or 4th Rounder or Udoh/ O'Neill

Take a flyer on DT Rankins(injury risk).

Draft one of these guys at #14. Parsons, Surtain, Paye, Slater, Barmore, Farley

Imagine all the things we could do without a $15-million quarterback making $33-million.

Problem is they are either 2-10 million QBs or 25-40 million qbs.....not too many in the middle class. Even your guy Goff.

There ain't no way, no how in today's NFL that a QB with Cousins' numbers is going to play for $15M unless he has the stupidest sports agent on the planet. Don't forget that the Jets offered him more money than the Vikings did. Hell, look at the contract Case Keenum got for one good year. It's a grossly overpaid position. Once in awhile you get a QB like Brady, who makes so much in endorsements and is married to a super model, who makes more money than he does, that will take a lower salary to help the team. Cousins average salary among QB ranks right where QBR and PFF have him performance wise in the league. He is far from the worst QB contract in the NFL.

The Jets? Another organization without a clue.

This is a good plan. We already dumped Rudy, so that's a start. The Vikings particularly need to get out of Barr's absurd contract. Cousins might be overpaid, but he's a value compared to what we're paying Barr and his (lack of) impact. Reiff played well last year, but we drafted Cleveland to be our starting LT. Let's put him where he belongs.

Cousins' agent schooled RS so we might as well try to make him a better player with a solid OLine.

They calculate O'Neill at 4 yrs, $27M. I'm guessing he will test the waters and get more.

Don't like seeing $4+ M in dead cap with Rudolph just so that we can stay somewhat afloat this offseason. Another instance of Spielman kicking debt down the road.

I can easily see him giving up a 2022/23 first rounder for a second rounder this year.

What he deserves is what the team and he agreed to.

Guess what he is getting?

Do I like it? No. but in the economics of the NFL this is what a QB not on his rookie deal will cost.

Neither here nor there. Usually your little digs at the team (and Cousins) have a slightly pointier edge. I'd rather have a decent QB than Watt and still be looking for a starting QB any day.

They could have played the QB market for best value player, they committed to the best player available at the position. That would have cost anyone big having to go that route.

And, unfortunately, besides mishandling the rest of the cap space, it happened two years before the Big Fizzle on defense ...
