They are talking up Hinton on the Athletic. They say he just needed a year to develop since he came from a Div II school.

Oh God. The Samia Udoh beast just sprouted another head.

We're building a Hydra of players who can't play guard.

I was actually thinking of something more grotesque like the thing from The Thing (1982) than greek mythology (or marvel).

Our OL situation is that bad.

It's turning into a buyer's market for guards. Norwell and Zeitler are both being actively shopped right now.

Both have 12M base salaries for 2021.

I'm sure a 4th rounder would do the trick. And then some restructuring.

Try to trade Reiff for one of them straight up, move Ezra to LT, draft another G in round 3 or 4. Line fixed.

Trade Reiff for a guard, Barr for a 3 Tech and draft BPA.

I don't think anyone is trading for Barr's contract, though.

Try the jets.

I got the sense of thoroughly burned bridge when Barr backed out on his deal with the Jets last time.

Didn't stop Gesson Rosas when Russell chose the Warriors over us at the last second.

Bad GMs are going to bad GM.

So you're saying we can get a player and one of the top picks in the draft?

Looking at the FA DT bios, and draft prospects at DT, do you think Patterson would be good at taking a DT that is a great run stuffer, and helping round out the player by making them serviceable at pass rushing?

I'd look at picking up a guy like Richie Incognito on the cheap for a year. He's 38, but the guy is tough as nails and may bring some toughness to our guys. Incognito has had some issues over the years, but the Raiders let him go after last season because of his injuries last year and he says he's healthy.

Gabe Jackson would be awesome.

agreed...bring incognito and a 2nd tier free agent guard in - and maybe a 3rd tier guard, too....

hey, spielman! - can we sign a phucking guard already?!....

IF you think the Vikes can be a playoff team next year, then a WR like Antonio Brown might be the perfect fit at WR#3:

"Larry Foote, a former teammate of Brown's in Pittsburgh who is currently Tampa Bay's linebackers coach, lauded Brown's impact on the Buccaneers after joining the team in October. "AB is just like Tom Brady as far as when he hits that grass, he's all business, and all of a sudden you see about 10 guys over there warming up with him because he'd do a dynamic stretch," Foote said during an appearance on the All Things Covered podcast with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden.

"He got the bands on, he's running 100s -- and he's serious. All of a sudden, you see two guys over there with him, three guys, then before you know it there's a couple of defensive players over there. Them young guys see what it takes and how he worked, and every day when he was out there he was working."

Also wanted to draft will Hernandez.

Pounded the table pretty damn hard for Hernandez as well.

Don’t forget though that Hughes was “supposedly” unbelievably good before he blew his knee out.

That and a bowl of turnips gets you a bowl of turnips...

I believe this is another example of Hernandez not being a “schematic” fit for our offense.

With guys like Gabe Jackson out there at a reduced rate, and not a “schematic” fit in our zone blocking scheme, I’m inclined to sign him.

So tired of seeing our so-called athletic, non road grater interior OLine types that get bull rushed to death, and consistently pushed back in short yardage situations that I’d roll the dice with a more physical type alternative. IMO

How about this, Kurt?

Garropolo to NE

Thuney to MN (Thuney was franchised)

Cousins to SF

MN sends 5th Rounder to NE

MN signs Fitzmagic and drafts Lance, Fields or Jones

I'm sure we couldn't work it capwise but all teams would get something they wanted.

The #Browns are expected to part ways with WR Rashard Higgins due to his demand in the market per report

(NFL Rumors on Twitter)

I don't know anything about Higgins, but I bring it up because I believe this year free agency may be more interesting than usual just because some teams don't have money to keep players and others do.

Here's a list by team how much everyone is under or over the cap. After the Vikings moved on Rudolph, the Vikings are still over the cap, but they have the least over the cap of the nine teams that are. There are 17 teams who are more than 10 million under the cap, though. They are going to have some fun with free agency. Thankfully, none of those teams are in our division. The Bears, Packers and Lions are all pretty much in the same boat with us- which means they all have some cuts/ restructures to make in the next few days.

Lotta moving parts there Mark.

I’d be ok with that if I knew I was able to draft Zach Wilson, but he’ll be long gone.

Do we get SF’s number one in this move?

I believe all of those QB’s with the exception of Jones will be gone by #8.

Fitzmagic as a backup would be a huge upgrade.

I’d love Thuney, but not at close to $20mil per? No.

I like the creativity...

Rick will just keep trading back, unfortunately.

Thuney and Scherff will probably both be FA. I bet Washington overpays to keep Scherff, 20M range. NE lets Thuney sign for some ridiculous contract and get a 3rd rounder. Where they drafted a guy last that got forced into action and turned into a stud.

While here in Vikings land, we are debating a 38 yo Incognito as our best FA option. And I fully support signing Incognito.

There are no reports linking Cole to the Vikings other than fan/local media speculation/wishing. This remains on the level of Cousins trade, though well north of Dominion voting machine conspiracies.

Signing Cole is not as difficult as trading Cousins will be---are you just practicing on being an ass in the wrong thread or is it normal?

You say that Keelan Cole signing is something that has happened so far (though it "doesn't look official yet"), but there is no indication anywhere other than fan/local media speculation/wishing, just like with a Cousins trade. Both are consistent with you falling for other popular red herrings or fantastical claims, and riding them into the ground.

There are plenty of guards available in free agency, and it sounds like more could be joining them soon — Andrew Norwell, Kevin Zeitler, and Trai Turner are all expected to be cap casualties.

That's good news for the #Vikings, who need to take advantage.

lol at Cowboys.

I would have tagged him and anything short of NFC title game let some dumbasses overpay.

They could have gave him that deal next year if he earned it.

Reread the post...doesn't look official. I posted earlier that there was interest. Keenan McCardell added as coach and interest from good sources. You need to dial your anger down.

There are red herrings posted all over the politics thread....if you don't realize that off the bat you really need to look in the mirror.

The contracts are getting to be 400% more than they should be. Top qb's get 10, the rest of the team paid accordingly and dad can now afford to take his kids to a couple of games.

And yes that means owners taking a hit too.

How far are they going to be allowed to take it? Talk to me when everyone has their basic needs of life met.

Cowboys couldn't win when Zach was only taking up $500,000 of salary cap. Now they need to win with him taking up $40,000,000.

good luck with that.

About 2 or 3 QB's in the league are worth monopoly money (Rodgers, Brady, and Mahomes). All the other high paid QB's have really done nothing but destroy their teams ability to compete.

I think Fitzpatrick is the most interesting free agent out there. Likely get him for $15 million. I would think the Patriots could be damn good with Fitz, they get about 9 guys back that opted out.

I really thought they would have addressed this in the recent CBA. But, I don't think I ever heard it was even a talking point no less. Escalating qb salaries will continue to be a huge problem in the future and the league had an opportunity to get in front of it.

In a dreamworld where we could find ten stars at different positions to take contracts that amount to half of what they're worth we could manufacture a Super Bowl win. Get a veteran superstar QB willing to take $15 million per year for three years. Get a Michael Thomas to take $9 million per year. Get a Harrison Smith, Stephon Gilmore and Jalen Ramsey to take $5 million per year. Repeat this with an edge rusher and three top notch offensive linemen. Combine them with the players still on their rookie contracts and throw in some filler and theoretically you could become a mega power. I'm surprised no one has tried this yet. It's a dream world scenario, I know.

_____________________________

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!
