No baseball until June

Slum owners save some $$ only playing partial seasons

They should all go to a short-schedule league

The salary mark of 210 million (before salary tax penalty) is apparently a sticking point

Teams like the Twins don't want it higher

as if they'd get close to that anyway.

All of this is for major league players. minimum salary and all that

and the players are pushing for future players

I get al that

so neither side is addressing the total garbage that is minor league baseball salaries.

I think having Stripling in that group helps (as he toiled for awhile) but there has to be some middle ground?

I think their complaint is that LAD and NYY always go over....but they few right at the cap SD, Boston, Philly, etc. (some of those cheaper FA will make more) oh boy.

Just split the difference and raise it 3-5 million a year. Big whoop.

The international draft appears to be the last big remaining obstacle to reach a labor deal today. MLB badly seeks it, and will eliminate all qualifying offers for free agents in return. The union still is opposed as it receives input from players, former players and agents.

If an agreement is reached today, the tentative plan is for Opening Day to be April 6-7, with the regular season extended by three days. The other missed games from the week-long delay would be made up in doubleheaders during the season.

MLB's written proposal has been submitted to the union. Everything remains fluid as they negotiate deep into the night:
_Luxury tax: $230 million that escalates to about $242 million.
_Minimum salary: $700,000 that escalates to about $770,000
_Pre-arbitration pool: $40 million

Talks are still progressing, key issues remain fluid, and it appears as if it could be an awfully long night of negotiations.

Good news: Progress and compromises on both sides are being made in today’s MLB negotiations.
Cautionary news: It’s a similar sentiment of a week ago.
We’ll see if it culminates in a new CBA deal in the next 24 hours.

Wait, the owners said those games would not be made up.

The Lockout is over.

They have an agreement.

regular season to start April 7

Let the remaining free agent feeding frenzy begin.

Will the Twins add a pitcher or two? If they don't they may as well kiss this season goodbye

Formalities remain, but Thursday afternoon’s proposal from the league was accepted by the MLBPA’s 38 voting members — thirty team representatives, and eighth members of the union’s executive subcommittee. By a final vote of 26-12, the players agreed to the terms of the deal, which now returns to the owners for ratification. (That’s the formality, since it was their proposal in the first place.)

While big changes are coming, the most pressing pieces of news involve the confirmation of a 162-game season in 2022, with the postponed games re-integrated into the schedule by means of 9-inning doubleheaders and a three-day continuation into October.

Beyond that, there is plenty to discuss. The playoffs will be expanding to 12 teams this season — presumably, three division winners and the next three best records, with some wrinkle on byes or ghost wins as incentives for first-place teams.

Numerous financial considerations dominated the negotiations, specifically the thresholds on the Competitive Balance Tax, league minimum salary, and a new bonus pool for eligible pre-arbitration players. Both parties agreed to kick the can down the road on an international draft, which requires a long-term plan to be in place by the summer lest the union want to re-absorb the qualifying offer next winter.

Universal DH will be implemented this season, so keep an eye out for your Nelson Cruz rumors.

quote:

Mark Feinsand@Feinsand
Some final details in new CBA, per source:
* $50M pre-arbitration bonus pool
* Minimum salary of $700,000 in 2022, increasing by $20K per year
* CBT $230M in 2022, rising annually to $233M, $237M, $241M, $244M
* 6-pick draft lottery
* Universal DH
* 12-team expanded postseason

Next year, more in-game changes such as a pitch clock, larger bases, and a shift restriction sound like they will be coming into play.

quote:

Mark Feinsand@Feinsand
As for rule changes... Beginning in 2023, a committee comprised of four active players, six members appointed by MLB, and one umpire, will be tasked with adopting changes to playing rules such as a pitch clock, base size, defensive positioning and automatic ball/strike zone.

Got rid of the dumbass extra innings and 7 game doubleheaders

Now we'll see how awesome the brain trust is in getting players (AKA SPENDING MONEY) in a hurry.

Not holding my breath. Pohland probably has the red ass for not getting to keep the luxury tax limit lower to pocket extra $$$ from the owners who want to win.
