While I must admit I have not followed the NFL real close lately so I know nothing about GM's around the league. So I have a real question that hopefully someone here can answer. Why would you hire as your new GM someone from the front office of a team as crappy as the Browns have been for quite some time now?

We needed this guy a few years ago...

How Adofo-Mensah performed in 2021:

Perhaps the smartest thing Berry and Adofo-Mensah have done since taking over is slow-playing a Baker Mayfield contract extension. When the Bills gave Josh Allen the second-richest contract in NFL history prior to the 2021 season, many thought Mayfield was next.

But the Browns were wary of paying a top-of-the-market wage to a good-but-not-great player. Mayfield went on to have a terrible 2021 (thanks in large part to significant injuries), and now the Browns owe him just $18.9 million next year. Then, they can walk away if his performance doesn’t improve. Quarterback aside, the Browns have one of the most talented rosters in football and were much better than their 8-9 record.

How freakin' appropriate.

If I were Mensah, I would started my interview by showing a Progressive commercial with Cousins being escorted out of the stadium, realizing his Escalade had been replaced with a Pinto.

You mean crappy like their 11-5 season in 2020?

Well, he did say he hasn't followed the NFL 'real close' lately.

"The Browns struggled throughout the 2000s and 2010s, posting a record of 101–234–1 (. 302) since their 1999 return. The Browns have only posted three winning seasons and two playoff appearances (2002, 2020) since returning to the NFL."

The Browns have plenty of talent, but may be held back by Mayfield.

Their defense seems strong, OL seems good, they have a good RB, but they seem weak at WR. Hopefully the Vikes keep JJ and Theilen, and KAM builds the rest.

I still haven't seen anything official on this GM signing, is it official ?

They were pretty certain on NFL radio this afternoon it was a done deal.

Wow, that has to be the worst post ever regarding trying to defend a point. Do you realize you actually made a case for Mensah?

And it's incredibly illogical, unless one believes Mensah was there since 1999. Which perhaps you do.

Oh, I was surprised how many Browns made the All-Rookie team this year, how about you?

The kickoff by BUF was not the problem. That cuts both ways. The problem was the dogshit defense that gave up like 45 yards in 2 plays - and very easily I might add.

Jimmy G and Stafford are not better than Cousins (especially Jimmy).

There was 13 seconds left. With a proper kickoff, KC gets one play rather than two. Yes, the defense sucked. But KC would have only had one play had the coach made the right decision.

Until their returner runs it back for great field position or worse, a TD.

What if in your attempt to pooch kick it, it goes OB?

The soft defense is what failed them.

Lets say he runs it back to the 40. That's a very good return and leaves them with about 4-5 seconds on the clock. At that point they have two options.....a hail Mary or a 77-yard field goal. I'll take my chances on that.

Yes, the soft defense sucked. But it shouldn't have even come to that.

I agree with Brad. Pooch kick would have been smarter.

Soft defense didn't help, but squib it, make them pick it up deep and run it forcing them to burn precious clock time, then they have a long field with a lot less time.

You can fair catch a pooch kick - as I mentioned earlier

So you're going to blame a guy who has been with the Brown since 2019 (where they went 11-5 with a Playoff win) for things that happened in the 2000s and 2010s?

Gave him three things to chew on a couple of posts above.

He's best off going back to not following the NFL.

I'm never one to stop someone from rolling on a good tirade, but if you haven't been "following the NFL real close lately", maybe do a few seconds of research first?

I said they've been crappy, those stats tend to prove me correct. I'm sure you as a obvious purple kool-aid drinker are fine with mediocrity.

Listening to our former GM talk about how they looked for the "it factor" when judging QB's and how you need to make sure that guy can get it done with the pressure on (ala Allen/Rodgers/Mahomes) on the Herd just about made me puke.

I codnt believe he'd offer that up after he was done! That decision alone doesn't say much for his abilities, imo

Really? How are things two decades old at all relevant to a guy that has been in the organization for 2 years?

The team has gone 19-14 in his 2 seasons. They appear to have hired a very good HC, they've drafted very well since he's been there. They've won a Playoff game.

Apparently you had enough time to Google the history of the Browns, but not enough to search "Kwesi Adofo-Mensah"...

Yeah boy, you sure got us there. That Mensah is going to be bad news having crapped all over Cleveland since before the turn of the century.

I can't believe Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would sign on to the team that hired Les Steckel to be its coach.

Has he never heard of the Herschel Walker trade?

Has he not seen Jim Marshall's wrong way TD?

Ok so he's been in Cleveland 9 years according to what I heard today. Last 9 seasons 44-67-1, including a zero win season in 2017.

DUDE.

2 years. TWO. Dos.

Prior to his position with the Browns, Adofo-Mensah was manager and director of football research and development for the 49ers, from 2013-2019.

So you can look up the Browns record the past decade, but you still refuse to actually do any research on Adofo-Mensah?

Geez, your math isn't right either. 44-67-1 is about 32 games short of 9 seasons.

Who knows, maybe they played 12.4 game seasons. I don't follow the NFL much.

I heard today that Adofo-Mensah was the guy who convinced Bernie Kosar to wait for the Supplemental Draft so he wouldn't be drafted by the Vikings.
