So much for putting some $ together. Tomason reporting we'll have just a hair over 2.25 million in cap space.

If correct what happened?

Both guys they traded for make some money....Reagor 1.8 and Blacklock 1.3

Former #Lions QB David Blough, who was waived hours after the 53-man cutdown, plans to sign with the #Vikings practice squad, per source.

Does he blow or does he bluff?

More a better Bleh than we were going to have on the roster or PS...

Reports varied. The trades perhaps ate up some (not sure on the total net) and since PS players don't practice for free, figure (very) roughly ~165-250K for a season for each. That's a few more million.

Maybe we'll go with just 15 on the PS to keep some cap flexibility for in-season needs

It's very confusing. Supposedly we started with 6.5M available and made moves to free up more and when the dust settles we're broke.

Referencing the cap, Kwesi says "I'll continue to say that every NFL team has challenges."

OK, technically that's accurate depending on how "challenges" is defined. But really, that's a BS statement.

Practice Squad costs extra $$$ now and they added more:

How much do they make?
Unlike true roster members, practice squad players aren’t making much money by comparison. Players are paid week-to-week, rather than a yearly salary — and it’s based on the number of years players have been in the league.

Players with two or less accrued seasons of experience will make $11,500 per week, while veterans with more experience can negotiate a weekly pay of between $15,400 and $19,900.

Are there any restrictions on who can be put on a practice squad?
Yes, and it’s here things get a little complicated, because once again it’s based on experience. Out of the 16 players on the practice squad a team can have:

Any number of players who have not accrued at least nine games in an NFL season.
Up to four players who have accrued no more than two NFL seasons.
Up to six players with no limitations on experience.
Four players can be protected each week, so they can’t be signed by another team off their practice squad. However, any unprotected player may be signed to a 53 man roster at any time.

So $160k to $340k to be on the practice squad....not a bad gig.

M first thought is, "Of course, you have to pay for a QB."
And you always have to pay the big bucks to some others as well ... but Kirk isnt even in the top 10 anymore according to a tweet from Spotrac i saw this morning. But of course it's challenging, thats why we hired you

I must really be behind on the rules. I thought only a top group of players counted against the salary cap, and that almost always excluded the PS players.

It use to be for players that never had NFL; now it has been increased to have veterans. I believe it use to be be 4-6 players but due to covid and other injuries they decided to keep it. I didn't realize that 4 were protected from being sniped also. Basically the roster is 57 players then.

it makes sense because teams can pay practise squad players as much as they want - i think that we paid sloter over $600k on the ps a few years back....

Reagor, Mullens and Blacklock all have cap numbers that make the Top 53. Their cap numbers minus the guys they knocked out of Top 53 probably takes 2M in cap space.

But I think where we are losing more cap space is Dead Cap for 2021 draft picks we cut. Spotrac has guys like Mond, Surratt and W Davis with dead cap numbers. Also Mannion.

Anyway, let the games begin. Maybe Schlottman will be a better answer at center and Ingram has the look of a solid RG. Offensive weapons are elite and we supposedly have a staff that knows how to use them better.

Salary cap is computed differently during the offseason vs. during the season.

During the offseason (early March to first week of September), salary cap is the top-51 player contracts with allowances for dead cap, IR, and PUP.

During the regular season, salary cap is the sum of the 53-man active roster + practice squad + dead cap + IR + PUP.

My guess is that part of the reason available cap space dropped recently is because we are just now switching from the offseason calculation to the regular season calculation + going from ISM to Reagor. Roster spots 52 and 53 is a combined $1.4 million (since now counting top-53 instead of top-51), Reagor's cap hit is ~$1 million more than ISM, and practice squad is ~$2.6 million.

KGA, I read that Kirk was struggling with the first team defense, but it was said to be because defenses are usually ahead of offenses this time of year.

I think a passing game is 80% QB/20% WR, so I don't think Erin will miss Adams so much. And I may be trying reverse psychology, it has worked before, hope it still works, despite being called out.

Rodgers is a very good QB, but his WRs are a bunch of Turds. Aaron may try to polish them, but they will still be Turds. It's going to be a very bad year in cheeseheadland.

One thing that makes QBs like Rodgers, Wilson, Mahomes good is keeping a play alive with their legs until someone gets open. In the case of Rodgers for the last several years he's always looked to Adams in those situations. He's still a great QB, but losing a talent like Adams, and his WR2 in Valdez-Scantling is going to hurt that offense quite a bit. You still can't sleep on them or Rodgers will torch you...but they wont be the juggernaut they were.

Mahomes faces a similar situation losing his favorite outlet in Hill, but I think the Chiefs have far better addressed that loss.

He has a lot of dead cap where he will be paid but not on the roster.

Try adding all the money he will be paid and divide it by the number of years remaining on the contract.

Edit: $80 million, which includes $12.5 million he'll get for not being a Viking, over two years.

$25 million in dead cap this year. 80% of it goes to Barr, Pierce, Rudolph, Gladney (his estate I guess).

Anyone read Terrence Newman's thoughts on playing for Zimmer? Talked about how difficult it was...and he finished in 2017. I can only imagine how shitty it got.
