We’ve entered the 4th quarter stand around on offense phase. And not surprisingly the lead has shrunk to 1.

The Wolves down 1, Morant at the line and KAT whining to the ref. Deja vu all over again.

As great as Ant’s 3 was, his gamble for the steal on the final play was even worse.

Definitely the wrong defensive play but I can forgive him since he’s a 20 yr old in his first playoffs. He’s less likely to make that mistake again than KAT or Dlo to do something stupid, like dribble on his own foot or run a terrible offensive possession and shoot a crap contested miss in the lane.

You mean like forcing a bunch of bad shots, and then taking an off balance one with a new shot clock while nursing a lead?

Ant had a rough game, but he was due to have one.

Yeah that too! What I love about following the Twolves for the past 25+ yrs is their perpetual ability to always be “interesting”.

Memphis was brain dead on that play. Why would a guy be guarding the lane and not getting on a 3point shooter? Give up the layup/dunk. MN has no timeouts. The best MN could hope for after that is missed FTs and a half court heave.

Much as many Wolves fans are annoyed by him, Barkley was spot on at half-time when he said the Wolves won't put the game away because they take too many bad shots.

Hollinger: While we’re here, the on-off stats for McDaniels in this series are staggering: +12.4 per 100 when he plays, -18.1 when he doesn’t. As you might expect, most of the difference is on defense.

Weird how Towns sticking his head between double teams isn’t working. I thought that would be super effective.

And done.

You know, for as maddening as this team can be at times, bottom line they doubled their win total, and played a #2 seed to a super competitive 6 game series. That’s real progress.

Reload and take the next step next season.

I wish Memphis well. They are a talented well coached team. Their next series with GS will be the best one the NBA has to offer.

The turning point in the 4th qtr, to me, was pulling McLaughin. He was super effective and we were up by 8 around the 8 minute mark. DLo came in and promptly committed turnovers trying to thread a needle on passes he had no business trying.

Ant kind of disappeared for a long stretch in the 2nd half.

Jaden kept us in the game late with great play on both ends. They should have kept feeding the hot hand.

Young team but need to learn how to close out games.

Not sure how far we can go with Dlo and KAT.

I think it's time to trade Dlo. Just not a fan of his.

Uugh.

Breaking up one of the best announcing crews in the NBA:

Jon Krawczynski
@JonKrawczynski
@davebenz
was told by
@BallySportsNOR
that they “were looking for a fresh start” and so they decided not to exercise the option on his contract. “It was my dream job.”

I won’t miss Benz. I don’t hate the guy. He was okay. He was always well prepared. But he’d come up with some inane points sometimes, that you could tell Petersen was just like “What the hell are you talking about”. But Pete would dial it back because they have developed good chemistry. Some of his ‘catchy phrases’ seemed forced too. And some of his perpetual habits were annoying...to me anyway. Like every single time a team gets the ball with 30 something seconds left. “Time for a two for one if they hurry!”. Yeah fine we get it. You’re proud of your 2 for 1 spotting abilities. Except 30-32 seconds really isn’t enough time...even if they ‘hurry’.

I’ll await to see who his replacement is. Plenty of room for improvement...but plenty of room for something worse too.

Yup. Never been a Benz fan. Seems like a super nice guy, but also really cheesy and corny at times. Too often he was more shtick than substance.

Well said Karl, captures most of my thoughts. I never liked the inane stats/facts he would throw in too often in my opinion. Like you say, room for improvement, but certainly possible to get someone worse too.

I wonder if this is why I say Marny G calling a game or two with Jim P, guess it must of been in the Grizzlies series?

Sad story. And strange. The man who shot him remained at the scene, was cooperative with police and was arrested for first degree murder. No more details have been released, that I've seen anyway.

He was with the Wolves, what, parts of two seasons? Brought in by Flip (second regime) I believe. He gave a good effort with what he had. But you could see his days in the NBA were probably going to be short. I think Flip gave up a 1st round pick for him too.

By all accounts he was a very good human being. He just wasn't an NBA player. He was skilled, but totally reckless and not coordinated enough. He was a danger to the other 9 players out there.

Possibly Flip's worst trade, but you can also blame his buddy Tom Izzo for talking him into making it.

Yup. He was penpals with a youngster that was sick with a deadly disease.

Senior has experience working with Sachin Gupta and Chris Finch in Houston, Pablo Prigioni with the Knicks, and several other Wolves coaches and staffers. Well thought of for his work with a Grizzlies staff that was just recognized with Zach Kleiman being named Exec of the Yr
