Where Farmer batted is irrelevant. He put put up his numbers in a notorious hitters park. They both hit lefties well. Big deal. That about 1/4 of major league pitchers.

To my greater point, we shouldn’t have to debate between Farmer and Garlick. The fact that the Twins are banking on both means they aren't serious about anything.

I don't agree. Outside of Lee, Gordon, and Lewis they didn't have a SS on roster. It could just be chip like what they did last year just before they signed Correa.

To your greater point means you were wrong on Farmer then?

Not at all. Farmer is worthless. Regardless of the positions he plays, his bat won't translate to a hitter neutral park like Target Field. The Twins already have super utility players in Arrez and Gordon.

I see it as a leverage move.....same a Kiner last year. Twins are thin at SS and catcher. Farmer can also catch.

Kiner wasn't a leverage move. TheTwins acquired him to be their SS. The Yankees called before the ink was dry on the deal. Falvine saw an opportunity to unload Donaldson and jumped on it.

I don't see the Twins gaining any leverage for any scenario by getting Farmer.

Yankees wanted Kiner as they didn't have a SS....how wasn't it a leverage move? Odds are they also knew they had a shot at Correa at the same point.

Nope. The Twins had no idea on Correa until Boras called out of the blue and after the Kiner transactions. Getting Kiner wasn't a leverage move because he was acquired to be our SS. Falvey confirmed this in an interview after the trades. They had no intention of turning around and trading him until the Yankees called.

Here's some good news on the Correa front.

“We [Correa and Polanco] just talk baseball almost all day,” Jorge Polanco said. “We haven't stopped. Sometimes, we talk about family, but it's baseball. … We talk about working out. We talk about getting ready for the season. Things like that. We motivate each other. That's really good.”

It’s the Latin American contingent of the Twins’ roster that maintains that everyday chatter with Correa, but there’s another very important player who also keeps in regular contact with his old teammate: center fielder Byron Buxton. The two superstars grew quite close last season, and Buxton frequently spoke about how much Correa’s advice and mindset meant to him and impacted his mental approach to gameplay and recovery.

“I talk to him just about every week,” Buxton said. “Me and him have a great relationship. I know what he wants to do. He knows what he wants to do. It's up to [the front office] to go back and get him. So that's the bottom line. He wants to be here. It's up to us to go get him.”

It will come down to $$$.

Yup, and I like our chances.

You like our chances? When has...it will come down to money...ever worked in the Twins favor?

The Twins have made it clear that they want Correa back after he opted out of his contract, and LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports that the club has offered the star shortstop multiple contracts with varying structures.

“They’re offering him different deals to see what he would like,” Neal said on the Talk North podcast. “There’s like 10 years at a certain [average annual value], I think eight years at another certain AAV and then a six-year deal, which of course that would have the highest AAV, which would be over $30 million a year.”

Typical Twins. Correa is pursuing 9-10 years at $30M per. Twins offer 6 years. Just like when Hunter left.

I am amazed they went 6; they only went three originally.

So take the 6 year deal, add on three more as team options. and give him the option of opting out before the team options kick in...

I would make it a 7 year with an opt out after 2.

Tom probably isn't wrong on this one:

I'm choosing to be optimistic, but ... Having some nephew pushed to the front and center seemingly out of the blue sure seems like something a rich family would do prior to making some unpopular decisions.

There's always rumors. Always tire kicking on some names. Then they sign someone like Homer Bailey.

Because of our owners...they sometimes don't try.

Correa likes it here but I am sure he wants a chance to win.
