Only 9 years after I was begging to draft him!

Adrian Wojnarowski@wojespn
Kyle Anderson has agreed to a two-year, $18M deal to join the Timberwolves, his agents Thad Foucher and Joe Smith of @wassbasketball tell ESPN.

Interesting. Wendell Moore and Ant grew up playing together and are good friends. I did not know that.

I wonder if that sort of thing plays into draft selection. Obviously, you’re drafting for talent, need, all the normal stuff. But as a tie breaker, if you’re considering 2-3 guys who are toss-ups, maybe take the one who will make your star happy and add to chemistry on and off the court.

Edit: looks like my link doesn’t work. It was just a short clip of Moore saying he played against Ant since they were 10 or 11 and named couple of tournaments where they played together.

It works fine for me. Maybe you have to be logged into FB?

That's a really good signing.

We add some size, rebounding and defense at the swing-forward position.

Not a great shooter, but he has to be guarded, and he's another ballhandler/playmaker to help keep the offense flowing.

KAT is going to be around for a while longer it seems.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34176251/karl-anthony-towns-minnesota-timberwolves-agree-4-year-224-million-supermax-extension

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns has agreed on a four-year, $224 million supermax extension, his agent, Jessica Holtz of CAA Basketball told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal begins with the 2024-25 season and delivers Towns' total contract value to six years and $295 million.

I like this. I believe this was the only slot and salary they had open to play with in free agency barring further moves. This is good use of it.

Fortunately its in before the next big cap hike which will end up normalizing the money quite a bit.

Holy shit.

Adrian Wojnarowski@wojespn
The Timberwolves are sending Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt and multiple first-round picks for Gobert, sources tell ESPN.

Jon Krawczynski@JonKrawczynski
The picks going to Utah, per sources: unprotected 1sts in 23, 25, 27, a swap in ‘26 and a top 5 protected in ‘29

I hate to see Vanderbilt go, and Beverley; no doubt the picks impact the future. Guess I'd say the Wolves have entered a "win now" era. Should make for some interesting seasons however

That's a horrible trade. Durant is going to fetch less than that.

This feels like KG and Pierce to Brooklyn...

Massive overpay. I think they thought they were trading for Giannis. Terrible deal.

Rudy Gobert's age when each pick is due:
2023: 31
2025: 33
2026: 34
2027: 35
2029: 37
Not to mention the Stepien rule severely limits our ability to trade future picks for the next 9 years (basically we can't without first acquiring more).

We basically need to be a contender the next handful of years for this to make any sense.

Wolves trade for Gobert

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34180894/sources-utah-jazz-trading-star-center-rudy-gobert-minnesota-timberwolves

Way too much. Crazy.

Contender? Hell, we need to win a championship for this to make sense.

I think it's a significant gamble in the first place, that KAT and Gobert can effectively play well together. Trading away significant depth and FOUR picks just to see if it works out?

Five players and four 1st round draft picks. It's hard not to make the predictable Hersch Walker comparison

Rudy Gobert also thinks there are 52 states?

Maybe they are working on a Dlo trade where we get some picks back?

Screw it. I'm just going with it now. We may win a title, it may blow up in our faces, but we're a hell of a lot more interesting than we were a couple hours ago.

Ideally we move Russell, but DLo/Ant/McDaniels/Towns/Gobert might be really, really good.

D'Lo will be better with Gobert.

He’s had his most success with a big that can set screens and then roll to the hoop. And Gobert is a lot better at both than Jarrett Allen.

Hopefully KAT will take Nine 3PA/Game.
