Cleveland sucks. At least at LG.

this season, let him compete with o'neill on the right side....

Ha ha ... nice one.

Oh you mean compete with O'Neill's right side ... like with his left hand tied behind his back.

Interesting.

"We are absolutely devistated to announce..."

Come on. Say you're saddened, or that you honor the man and his life upon his passing but there's nothing devistating about the natural passing of a 95 year old man. Again, esp for believers.

My favorite memory BC I didn't get to see him coach was watching him a few years back walk across the frigid field in a golf shirt.

Right now there are 10 players with a 2023 cap hit greater than $5M.

The ten includes Hicks, Tomlinson, Cook, Za Smith, Harrison Smith. If they are cut, that would leave just five with Cousins, O'Neill, Hock, Harrison Phillips (boo), and Hunter (with $11.2 dead cap in 2024).

After that, in the $3-4M range it's JJ, Wonnum, Cleveland, Ham, Darrisaw.

Everyone else is below $3M. Reed is noteworthy in that his dead cap and cap savings are somewhat near Cleveland's.

Cut those five, let Cousins play out his contract, and we'll be looking good cap wise. At least briefly until JJ, Darrisaw, and Hock enter the picture. It kind of sucks we don't have anyone else in the hopper for big $ later as that is a reflection of a largely barren cupboard (especially defense).

Trying to acquire draft assets is a bridge too far unless everything is torn down.

Everyone but our kicker and Adrian “Count on me to always fumble when it matters” Peterson.

Side track into my thoughts on The G.O.A.T coach, ( imo) Bud Grant and those teams of his..

So close.. so many times..

As someone who grew up with him as the Head Coach from my start as a purple people lover..

I’m resigned to his passing.. a little sad that the franchise could never win one Super Bowl in his lifetime, nor even get back into one for the attempt, after he retired from coaching..

For those who never got to see his teams play, and how he coached in the era of football that he lived..

You missed greatness.

No nonsense.
Resolute commitment to team and excellence.

Complete respect and command of those teams and those players..

Yea, there were a few players that he had trouble with.

But if you can.. find footage of some of the games he coached..
As a kid, NFL on TV was a hit or miss thing.. I obviously got to see all 4 Super Bowl attempts..

Gut wrenching heartache is a standard only exceeded by a few other things in my life.

Sir Francis Tarkington and those teams were fun to watch..

I recommend the book “ better scramble than lose”

Some newspaper guy called him "The Scrambler," and the name stuck. But ask Fran Tarkenton why he scrambles, and he'll tell you he doesn't ... unless he has to!-and even then it's only about once in thirty plays. Fran explodes a lot of other myths about himself and about pro football- myths that even some of the smartest coaches swear are true: that pro football players play harder when the money is bigger; that the opposing team usually tries to "get" your star player; that a great quarterback can make any team a winner. Here's the thrilling, true story of one of the game's young "old pros." A minister's son they thought was too soft for the big time until they played on his team
It on Amazon for cheap.

Fran was “Mahomes-ing" his way around the NFL decades before it was common.

Back to Bud and his teams..

My following in podunk Iowa was mostly by actual newspapers..

Monday sports sections meticulously gleaned for news, blurbs, and stats..

My life as a kid, in football season, was consumed with the Vikings and win loss records, PF/ PA, and on the scrutiny of the team statistics for each game.

I will be changing my avatar back to one I have had for a while but changed after the birth of daughter..

Great man.

Crafted the purple nation into what it is today.

Greatness was thrust upon this franchise, in no small way due to the ethos of Bud Grant.

RIP, Big Guy..

A child’s hero has gone to Valhalla..

SKOL VIKINGS!

Bud Grant not winning a Super Bowl doesn't bother me one damn bit. The Super Bowls that he lost were not the Super Bowls of today or even the Super Bowls of the 80's for that matter. It wasn't even until the third Super Bowl that they were even called the Super Bowl. These games were looked at as exhibition games to the players. I think we view these games as more important than they truly were because of our neighbors in Wisconsin. Since they won a couple of these meaningless games they of course over glamorize them. Titletown! zOMG!! 483 WURLD Championships!! Yee haw!

There's a problem with their logic though and I'm surprised they don't get called on it more. And that problem is that if Green Bay claims 83 (or whatever the completely irrelevant number they choose it is) "World Championships" then by that very same logic the Minnesota Vikings have one from 1969. That's a fact jack. We don't get all bent out of shape over it though because we know it's not a meaningful championship - just like all but two of theirs.

Anyway, if you don't believe me here's a bunch of links to sites and articles that tell all about those storied first Super Bowls. Did you know they once even restarted the second half once because the NBC truck hadn't come back to the game from commercial?

And it was Evans himself who mentioned mental demons (as opposed to the SI source embellishing).

https://twitter.com/AkaylebEvans/status/1616275119462047751?s=20

Wasn't saying it's a huge deal, just that Evans and Dantzler had some personal things going on.

This is the first I've heard of Evans having mental demons. At least he didn't seem to have the immature baggage Dantzler put on display.

Evans willed himself to have concussions.
