Training camp has started and the Wild won their first preseason game 3-2 in O/T against the Avs. A good time to get a new thread started.
Go Wild!

Reading this AM that KK started where he left off (2 points) and Addison and Rossi both had good games. Doorway is open for both so that's good news.

I caught the first two periods of the Wild's rematch with the AVs for their 2nd preseason game. Wild won again, 5-2 final.
The line of Boldy-Steel-Jost looked like our best line last night. The Steel pick up looks to me like it will be a good one.

Maybe after the disappointing Twins ending, the Wild will be a joyful response.

I watched it too. A couple things stood out to me. You have to take this with a grain of salt though as the only starters that I noticed were Goligoski, Jost and Boudy.

1. We need to be better prepared coming in to the period. Both their goals came about 20 seconds in.
2. We were/are focusing on getting the puck below the goal line and working it back out front on the PP. Our first 2 were PP tallies by Jost. Nice goals.
3. Neither goal was Gustavsson's fault. He was outstanding overall.

First Wild game we got to watch of the season and they didn't disappoint. It was pretty much all newbies and young pups, but they decidedly beat the newbies and young pups that Dallas put on the ice.

And boy, I think we just might have our goalies of the future.

I think you are right Lynn. Wallstedt is just so smooth and in control for such a young guy. Once he gets used to the different angles on the NHL rinks and the speed of the game he will be a great one.

Yeah, I was watching the Blackhawks preseason tilt and I hardly knew who anyone was. Hockey's still great, though!

That's for sure. Even though we don't know many of the guys playing now, and won't see most of them come the regular season, it's just fun to have hockey to watch again.

There is a better message on Twitter but it is a picture file instead of text. I don't know much about Novak but happy for anyone that beats cancer.

It's been a good camp. Nice to see a few recent draft choices made their marks during the preseason. None stayed, but they all look pretty close.

Everybody saw Jesper Wallstedt was smooth as silk in the goal. He looks like the real deal and could, at long last, give the Wild that franchise goal tender that they have never had.

Carson Lambos (D), who was taken a few picks later in the same first round, really made his presence known. The Wild kept him in camp through the first four games of his junior team's season. He could be here as soon as next year. He looks like everything you want in a defenseman; big, strong, fast and skilled.

Ryan O'Rourke (D), just went down to Iowa. He could get his first look this year. O'Rourke is a big, mean, nasty blue liner. He believes the best way to separate a man from the puck is to just embed his ass into the boards. He will be that crease clearing blue liner some of us have been wanting for a long time. The kid is smart and a good skater to boot. Worth noting, every team he has played for made him a captain.

Daemon Hunt (D) was taken one round after O'Rourke. He gets honorable mention. Also big and fast with a high hockey IQ.

Great summary!
We also have the smooth skating Faber with the Gophers most likely making the jump next year as well....loaded at D.
Now we just need a few guys to help out KK in the scoring department and we are set.

Rossi may be ready to help in that regard. He has a goal and a helper tonight.

I only caught the last period, but from what I have seen of Rossi so far he sure looks like he belongs on a top line.

I didn't realize that Hartman is still only 28....one thing I read that Hartman and others have worked on this year is the FO%. Hartman only one 44.8% of FaceOffs and that was a big focus of the offseason.

That will be a huge factor in whether or not the Wild take the next step. Eriksson Ek was the only C who could win face offs last year and you just can't have that if you hope to be a top team. The faceoff losses result in guys like Kaprizov having to spend the first half of their shifts playing defense. It's hard to maintain momentum in the offensive zone when you constantly lose faceoffs down there. Worst of all are the defensive zone losses, especially on the power play. They lead to quick goals against. Hartman has a game that compliments KK and Zuccs real well. If he can get his face off wins over 50%, that would be a real lift.

I saw and encouraging stat earlier in camp that Rossi was winning the majority of his faceoffs. I hope that continues. I'm curious as to where they slot him when the season starts. He looked pretty good on the #1 line last night, but that could have something to do with playing Chicago. Sorry Joe.

Sounds like they are pretty happy with Rossi and Steel.

Even if those 2 pan out it; just so much talent on the defense side (to not upgrade the offense somewhere down the line this season).

#mnwild will place center Steve Fogarty on waivers today at 1. You can read more about the Edina native in today’s Craig Leipold-led story

Roster hopefuls Marco Rossi, Andrej Sustr, Nic Petan, Mason Shaw and obviously Calen Addison remain. The Petan/Shaw battle is intriguing

As much as fans here disparaged Mikko Koivu, he consistently did pretty well on face-offs. I just googled it and he was at about a 52% rate, and on occasion was closer to 60%.

Meh, Mikko's percentage is skewed by the amount of times he got kicked out of the face off circle, which was a lot. He constantly tried to cheat on the draw.
