Nico Sturm is making $2 million this season and I would rate Hartman at or above Nico for sure. He is playing on a low $1.7 million contract still this season, so I'm guessing Guerin offers at least $2.5 per if not $3 million, which is about what Eric Haula is making now. It's not Hartman's fault he has to play up a level because we don't have a 1C on this team.

Sounds like Spurgeon will be out at least a couple of weeks, but of course all they will say is week to week.
Too bad, I caught the last 2 periods last night and I have already seen enough of Merrill. Why he is still on the team makes no sense to me. I would rather see one of the young guys in his spot.

The Minnesota Wild re-signed forward Ryan Hartman on a three-year, $12 million deal, the team announced Saturday. Here’s what you need to know:

The contract extension runs through the 2026-27 season and carries a $4 million average annual value.
Hartman got a no-move clause added to the final year of his current contract and the first year of the new one as part of the deal, team sources said. It turns into a limited no-trade clause in Years 2 and 3 of the next contract.
Hartman, 29, put up 15 goals and 22 assists in 59 games for Minnesota last regular season, his fourth with the team, and tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in the playoffs.
Hartman has 107 goals and 126 assists in his nine-year career since he was drafted in the first round in 2013.

Our core is all set now thru the cap crunch for better or worse, we are what we are.

Wild end preseason 5-1 and will start out with Spurgeon on the shelf for at least a few weeks the way it sounds.
Preseason means little, but I was encouraged by the play of Rossi. He looks stronger on his skates and has a little more burst since working with our skating guru Andy Ness.

Yep, we all acknowledge it's preseason, but it's easy to feel pretty optimistic about this mix of talent.

Gus pitches a shutout and Faber scores his first NHL goal. Wild win, despite getting badly outshot.

Sounds like Johannsen was injured in the 3rd...

Sounds like he got clipped in the head and didn't return. The ever popular upper body injury.

We were badly outplayed in the first. We grew in to the game a bit but they skated circles around us. Rossi looked much better, btw.

That's good. Until the end of Parise/Suter salary cap purgatory the young guys are going to have to come through.

Actually I don't know why they didn't just go total youth movement the past few years. They sort of have but could have done more so.

This is good news. I think Foligno and Freddy are good line mates for him at this stage. They flank Rossi with size, a fair amount of talent and high IQs. Can't emphasize enough, the Wild NEED Rossi to succeed.

I didn't tune in until the 2nd period and so far it looks like the Gus Bus contract looks like a great move. We were badly out shot but Gus was on fire last night. We stole 2 points last night for sure.
Rossi didn't look like the same player we saw this time last year. That line of Rossi with Freddy and Foligno could be a good 3rd line as long as Foligno starts playing hockey and quits with the stupid stuff. The refs all have his number and everybody he hits will be diving with the slightest contact.

How many more years are left on the Suter/Zach debacle?

This season and next, I believe.

The dead cap money is 14 something million this year. To put it in perspective, the average NHL salary is about 3 million. That’s almost a 5 player disadvantage compared to other teams.

Distribute that out any way you want. Minimum salary is $750,000. That’s 6 minimum salary roster spots that other teams could upgrade to average. Or, they just signed Boldy to an extension of 7 million a year. Other teams can do two additional Boldy like signings than the Wild can.

They’re doing a good job just making the playoffs, considering. But what good are quick playoff exits?

Their combined cap hit is $14.75M this year and next year. After that it drops to $1.67M for the next 3 years. The first year at the lower rate is also the last year of Kaprizov's current contract.

So in 2 years we will have the money to add 2 stud free agents to our top 6.....
But 2 years is a long time in the NHL, so all we can really do is wait and see what Billy G has up his sleeve.....if he even knows.

Toronto is up 4-3 after 2. On the brighter side, Rossi picked up his first goal.

We really need to bring up a couple more of the young defensemen as soon as possible. We have Brodin and Faber and after that not so much without Spurgeon. The rest of them are 3rd pair at best and shouldn't be seeing the ice time they are currently. So far this season we stole 2 points and got smoked by a better team.

I get the Minnesota-sports-fan mentality. I've lived it my entire life. But why is it when we win it's a stolen win? How about we just recovered from a bad first period and rallied to beat the other team, thanks in large part to our goalie who was on fire?

We won 2-0 while getting outshot 41-19. I think it's safe to say that Gus stole us that game.

Exactly, anybody that watched the game knows Gus was the only reason we won.

I think I would rather have Parise and Suter playing elsewhere. Some say it was toxic with those two but it was more time to move on....
