Yeah I like Connelly’s improve every year approach. Milton and Brown alone are a couple more wins.

Finally found a little pre-season positive perspective from national media: John Hollinger in the Athletic writes:

Minnesota will win a playoff series for the first time in 20 years

That’s right, I have a second thing that hasn’t happened in 20 years that I’m predicting will happen in 2023-24. Good things to happen to the Timberwolves? Have I lost my mind?

Thus far, the preseason focus has been on other West locales — the world champion Denver Nuggets, the reloaded Phoenix Suns and the recent champions in Golden State and L.A. — while the Wolves haven’t garnered nearly as much attention. However, they quietly played well over the second half of last season, going 26-19 after the turn of the new year, and I’m projecting them to land one of the top four seeds in the West.

If that happened, it would be the first time since their conference finals run with Kevin Garnett in 2004. In the only other three playoff appearances for the Wolves since then, they’ve been first-round roadkill as the West’s seventh or eighth seed.

While it’s a little early to pencil in who might be their first-round playoff opponent, the Wolves would have home-court advantage in the first round based on their projected finish, and, particularly if they get the No. 3 seed or higher, would be in a historically strong position to advance.

Additionally, there doesn’t seem to be any particularly compelling reason to bet against Minnesota once it reaches the postseason; the Wolves have the requisite inside-outside weapons in Anthony Edwards and Towns, their potential top-seven playoff rotation looks strong and, besides Towns, the team has strong individual defenders. Will this be the season we see Minnesota play in May?

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Naz now measures 6'10 and McDaniel is 6'11.

Still growing.

I'm pretty sure Naz isn't growing. More likely just shoe confusion... At the combine he was 6'8.75 barefoot and 6'9.5 in shoes.

I'm also pretty sure Jaden was taller than KAT even last year.

I think its the new "KG gained 20 pounds over the offseason" meme.

I think this season will depend heavily on a couple of things.

1. Can KAT and Rudy stay healthy enough to play a lot of games together.

2. Can the two of them actually on the floor together work. There were some issues in the small set of games they played together last year. Mainly transition defense.

Any inside information on Jaden McDaniel's calf strain? After KATs and J MacLaughlin's issues last season the label has me scared when applied to any player. If I recall McDaniels didn't even play in the first Dallas preseason.

Health and can Rudy fit in. Other players need to consider his limitations offensively as well. Can BB players wear gloves? maybe it would help Rudy catch passes.

Nice
Pretty much KAT or Gobert will be gone after the season.

Not necessarily. The deal won't even hit 25M until after Rudy is off the books.

Not saying we won't be a tax team, but if the KAT/Gobert combo works, its far from difficult to keep it together for another year or even two.

Glad to see McDaniel get paid. The league is opening its eyes to the value of good two way players and McDaniel is at the forefront of that.

I certainly don't have inside information, but I consider it a credit to Finch and the Team Management/structure that both Naz and McDaniels accepted "reasonable" deals, likely less than they could have held out for or gotten on the market to stay here. Its a good sign!

I don’t believe in streaks where completely different players and coaches are involved. See Twins playoff losing streak. But I don’t know, there may be something about that Toronto arena or something that just makes the Wolves unable to beat beatable teams.

As for the game itself, the second unit played much better team ball. The starters played like they didn’t know what to do. Didn’t know what roles they should have. The bench just went out and played the game they’ve loved all their lives.

I don’t see why people thought this team would be so much better than last year. They made hardly any moves. Shake Milton? Is supposed to get them over the hump? Otherwise it’s the same bunch but just with more hype and some with fatter wallets.

Looks like more of the same in game 1. Poor shooting exposed how truly bad the Wolves transition defense is.

I'm curious to know....

Why is the national view of the Wolves pretty much "8th - 11th best in the West"...But in Minnesota it sounds like many are predicting a Top 4 or Top 5 finish for them?

I thought it was 95% certain Naz was leaving.
