Chances are we’ll get a QB that Dan will hate.

Favre, Cousins…

PENIx and his injuries are at the top of my “ nope” list.

Well there it is then. We are virtually guaranteed to take Penix now.

I think he's pretty safe. His injuries are pretty far in the past now and he sure seems healthy. I'd love to get him at 11. 23 would be better, but I think that's a pipe dream. I like Nix a bit more though.

QBOTF probably not but he may be fine for 4-5 years.

He could definitely play 10 years or more. What if he does only play 4-5 years and we win 2 NFL Championships. I'd be good with that.

Definitely? 1st round Qbs only hit 20-25%...so definitely wouldn't be what I would use.

Definitely could were my words. Not definitely will. I don't believe he definitely will. I'm just saying it's possible and not a huge long shot that he could play 10 years or longer.

Here is the deal KG....they have cap this year and next for FA and you have to take that into account.

So many possibilities for trades and FA that don't involve the draft but Penix and Nix aren't as young as McCarthy/Maye who are the youngest of the top 6 and true QBOTF (21 years old). Boobie prize for QBOTF is Daniels who is a little older. Then Nix/Penix....I don't see a chance at Caleb of course.

Big key to Mahomes was that he was 21 when drafted.

I give extra credit to Maye and McCarthy for being younger. I give extra credit to Penix and Nix for being better. My current QB rankings
1 Williams unattainable
2 Daniels most likely unattainable
3 McCarthy grudgingly, but If we traded 11 and 23 for him I wouldn't be devastated.
4 Nix plenty young to QB us for 10+ years
5 Penix plenty young to QB us for 10+ years
6 Maye young, big, strong and loads of flaws. More than the 5 guys I have above him.

Would you think less of him if he was 30 instead of 28?

Sure its great if your draft pick is younger, but its really not that key. McCarthy and Maye are the youngest, but they're also the 2 that would benefit the most from sitting a year and they both have mechanical issues that the other 4 do not. The age might give them a higher ceiling, but their issues just as easily could give them a lower floor.

We're not talking RBs that age out quickly. Most QBs peak around 27-31. That's still 4 years away for Penix and Nix.

Any body here like this idea (?):

If the top 4 QBs (Williams, Daniels, Maye, McCarthy) went with the 1st 4 picks, what if the Vikings tried to get both Nix and Penix with their picks (#11 and #23) ?

They would pick the one they thought wouldn't last until #23, and then either take the other one at #23, or take best defensive player there.

Sort out who is the starter in camp and pre-season, and if the other one also looks great in pre-season, you might be able to later trade him for a 1st rounder next year.

You would think that but that is why I have a check next to Maye or McCarthy first.

KG has a preference of no Maye or McCarthy----that is what he wants. Not my opinion which I stated earlier....Freshman and Senior with the same ability; play the Freshman or this instance draft the Freshman (if trade up is reasonable of course).

It's an interesting idea I've seen on other media sites. I'd enjoy seeing us do it, but I don't think it would work. We do need to make a decision between them.

In Summation I like McCarthy even enough to tolerate trading up for him.
Maye is younger, but that's not enough of a factor for me to overlook his many issues. I still wouldn't hate taking him at 11. He has a chance to be good.

So you think it hurt Brock Purdy to have Trey Lance around?

You could say it helped, certainly in this particular instance. Someone with a little more talent and we might not know who Brock P is ...

I doubt it helped Brock taking 3rd team reps.

They also weren’t drafted the same year - or realistically expected to compete with each other for the job.

what do you all think the odds are that they trade up to take a QB and package later round picks to get back into the second round for a D player they covet?

Here's why I don't belive the idea that Maye or McCarthy will be there for the Vikings. Even if one of them starts to slide, the Vikings have to hope that the Giants pass on a QB at 6 and that neither the Broncos or Raiders trade ahead of the Vikings and poach him.

Agreed. If either makes it to 9, the Bears will trade down to 12 or 13.

Bears can move back 3 or 4 spots, still get a great prospect, add extra picks and screw a division rival.

Depends, if Rome Unduze (sp) is there at #9 they might not want to move back. Or they might want to take the best T on the board knowing that is what the Jets most likely will do.

I’m losing my appetite for trading up. If all 6 are gone by 11 so be it. Half probably won’t be franchise guys anyway. Also, I’ve warmed up to Nix.

Yeah I am hovering around ‘whatever’ at this point. Outside of Williams / Daniels who are unattainable, I’m a little less impressed with the other prospects as we go along and I’m worn out by the silly draft industry.

I get the feeling at this point if any of these guys turn into franchise QBs it will be a stroke of luck more than skilled drafting … there’s not that much separating them.

I love Daniels game but also would have sever anxiety if we somehow get him. Dude makes incredible plays but gets absolutely blown up regularly. His highlights are Mike Tyson blows to the chin. His lowlights are that chin.

His frame and playing style scream RGIII. One MVP-ish season followed by a regular gig on NFL Live at the age of 26

After he gets his knees blown up in the NFL will he be as good as Penix is right now?

This is the same poster that once suggested we use every pick for a WR.

Simply put we have too many needs to burn both of our top picks in this manner.

QB is a need, but so are OL, CB, DT, Edge etc etc etc.

After years of Spielman's "quantity over quality", I'm not opposed to trying the opposite.
