While Detroit was playing guys they found at the Y before the game...

That's what's so hard to understand. Those guys were singling up or guys and we had ZERO answer.

Guys were open all night, but a combination of slower developing plays coupled with Sam's instance on holding the ball forever turned their defense into the 85 Bears.

I have a feeling we'll see the same thing against the Rams. I mean why wouldn't we?

We're going to have to be a lot better next week.

Sam was Ok against the Rams. 18/25, 240 Yards, 2 TDs.

But, he was sacked 3 times, gave up a safety and we scored only 6 points over the final 3 quarters (while the Rams put up 23 over the same span).

Stafford threw 4 TDs against us. And Nacua was running free over the middle of the field all game long.

Rams are bottom 7-10 on most all key defensive passing indicators. Then again, the Lions are bad on several too and we couldn't score a single TD.

darnold is a work in progress, just like o'connell is a work in progress, just like mccarthy is a work in progress....

if darnold doesn't win two playoff games, we don't keep him....

If I was to see it on reply, which I wont, Id count how many passes he sailed. Gotta be a high number. 6? 7? That's it right there, no need to blame anything or anyone else, imo. Hard to win when you give away all those plays. Id like to see a line graph of the players vibe with each errant pass they arent used to seeing. / Sometimes siht just happens. It did, but we got it over with and are good go now - ha ha, I hope!

You're saying Darnold is a work in progress but needs to win two playoff games or he's gone?

This is from halftime last night...

Per ESPN Research, Sam Darnold has 8 overthrows tonight, the second-most for a game in his career. The only other game with more was in Week 7 of 2019, when he had 12 while with the Jets vs. the Patriots. (You know what game that was.)

Thanks! Honestly, I deleted a sentence that asked, "is it closer to 5 or 10" feeling it was at least 8 but I chickened out with it not knowing for sure.

That's unreal. If we have a chance to win at all next week, he has to be way better than that. Play like a professional, for God'ssake.

I went to bed at 9:30, out of frustration. I counted at least 8 overthrows or total misses by that time. He has to play better, and the iol has to hold protection for more than three seconds.

Asking IOL to hold for more than 3 seconds is a lot. The average time to throw in the league is 2.8. Gotta get the ball out faster.

You're correct. But, it takes Sam a little longer to run through his looks than most qb's. It's probably easier to get better on the interior than to teach him how to read hot routes faster.

Well if we're out next week he'll be gone. We still need to improve the IOL as well. Brandel and Bradbury have too many mishaps. If they each only screw up 3 times a game that's potentially 6 plays that blow up in our face. I don't understand how the qb and receivers don't have hot routes when they play single coverage and blitz the house?

A lot of that is on KOC. Goff was killing us with short tosses when the pressure got to him. Our game plan had no fix for detroit's pass pressure. It was so frustrating that we couldn't change it up.

I know people hate Favre and Childress but that Saints game was a clinic on how to deal with the blitzes. Sure we fumbled the game away but that was the style we needed to go to until they stopped sending everyone.

Guys were open all night, but a combination of slower developing plays coupled with Sam's instance on holding the ball forever turned their defense into the 85 Bears.

The high balls were obvious but there was a lot of inaccuracy ...

Robinson had a solid game but really ... if the ball is put in the right position in the end zone - I'm not talking precise bullseye but on the correct side of the body away from the CB... doesn't matter how grabby the CB is ... Jefferson would've eaten them up. [not that Jefferson had a good game ... they got under his skin]

The lion CBs pushed as much as they could and were probably surprised as anybody how much they were getting away with. 2 or 3 pass interference penalties against mauling people all game long is fair value. They played to what the refs were calling.

I thought Ginkel laying out Gibbs would fire up the team more ... was disappointed it didn't 'set our tone' from that point.

I would have immediately stuck Ginkel at TE and had him run out to block on a couple of wr screens. See if we could get away with a few flagrant fouls against their CBs.

Eye for an eye kinda shit.

Wow.. some people just gotta frosting And glaze a shitty QB…

A QB with “ it” makes the throws.. in particular the 2 end zone passes that hit dirt, and the third down passes to a wide open TE, that would have kept drives alive.

An intelligent, football and game savvy QB,, DOES NOT take multiple sacks in excess of 15 yards, each..

That is not poor coaching .. that is flat out stupid player ability to perform under pressure.

Throw the ****ing ball away.. it’s not that hard..

If Darnold is so stupid, he can’t check out of a long route, slow developing, pass play.. looking at the defense playing man, and bringing 6-7 guys on a blitz..

I DO NOT WANT HIM TO KFC, ( lead), my Vikings.

There are no #8 seeds.

Now if #s 5, 6 and 7 all win, then the Vikings will play at home against Washington the following week, while Green Bay goes to Detroit.

And if the Vikings beat Washington, and GB upsets the Lions, then the Vikings get the Packers at home to go to the Super Bowl.

I saw a replay the other day. Our passing game was tons of quick hitters. Not much in the way of slow developing plays. Obviously we ran the ball as well. We had a bunch of fumbles though. Of course the last INT. I believe we hit them up to the tune of 500 plus yards. Lots of hot routes towards the areas the blitzers vacated. Obviously we lost but we had like 5 turnovers. I believe mostly fumbles. The Saints didn't have many turnovers going by memory.

Edit: I looked it up. We had 475 yards to their 275. 5 turnovers for us 1 for them.

I don't like that the Rams game is at night, it makes the scenario to similar to when the Vikings lost to the Lions and then the Rams earlier in the season.

The Vikings don't matchup well against the Lions or the Rams, but who knows, anything can happen.
