Who cares? He’s, thankfully, their problem now. Yeah, a pick would have been nice but I’m just glad we don’t have to worry about his contract to production when it matters anymore

Agreed.

Honestly it was a victimless "crime". We were never going to sign him for that amount of money (we couldn't even if we wanted to), and I doubt the NFL wants to fully open that can of worms where draft picks can move from team to team over something that happens all the time (but most players are smart enough not to blab about it at a presser...).

100%

Our reward is not having to pay a QB 50 mil per season that has no chance of ever making a Super Bowl run.

Yeap. To me it is/was simple.

Did he have great stats? Yeap

Did he make really nice throws? Yeap

Was/is he ever going to win a SB? Nope

Move on, use the money better ect. No championship winning QB throws a check down on 4th and 8 on the last play of the game. Doesn't matter if it's preseason or the SB. He showed his colors there. It's not even a knock on him. It's just who is. A guy that has made a killing because he can throw a nice football. Not a great QB.

Great QBs know when they are behind, with less than two minutes to go, and no timeouts, that you have to spike the ball to stop the clock. After 12 years as a starting QB in the NFL making great throws and piling up great stats, Kirk Cousins didn't know that. People think of him as a top 10 QB, you hear the pundits all the time because they don't see the simple nuance of not spiking a ball, which is instinct for a Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes etc, Not throwing a check down on 4th and 8 when your SEASON is on the line, same thing. instinct for the best, not even a consideration for Cousins.

I am delighted someone took the scissors out of our hands and over paid him. Falcons fans are going to be calling for Penix pretty quickly when they realize they don't have a guy with the cajónes to bring his team back for a win late.

“Holy hell”
“Oh my god”

Unrestrained kicker hype from @MatthewColler and @DaneMizutani, who were blown away watching Will Reichard kick indoors at OTAs:
* hitting 60 yard FGs with distance to spare
* super consistent, down the middle every time
* the ball booms off his foot

Let's see how it goes in games. In practice, indoors no pressure many kickers nail them repeatedly from distance.

It sounds good but let's see just how this holds up when his got to kick 54 yarder into the wind, outdoors, off grass, in December, for the win, the division and a playoff spot...

Probably pretty well.

Hit 88% of his FGs last year, 84% for his career and had a single FGA blocked in 4 years.

I have plenty of imagination. I also have 40+ years of watching the Vikings dash my hopes.

Cynicism is a real bitch.

Also threw the ball 20 yards OOB's on a hail mary and on 4th and goal threw the ball into the stands in the back of EZ.

This is a good year to bring in a rookie K. He'll be able to grow up with the rest of the team.

RE: Reich

Not saying this kid is a sure thing but he's as close as it comes. They mentioned during the draft coverage that this dude has been training to be a kicker his whole life. Like, NFL type training camps.

And like DL mentioned above, he's kicked at the highest level his age will allow. Give him time (unlike Zimmer) and we have a stud IMO.

You mean like in the two national championship victories at Alabama where he went 1 for 1 and a year later 4 of 5 (the miss was his lone blocked kick)? Or when he went 2 for 2 in the Sugar Bowl the season after those two championships?

And why don't you add on an ice field, on a sprained ankle, and with someone who has never held for a placekicker.

Let’s just hope he’s well schooled on the art of separating his professional life, with his love life (Unlike Blair Walsh) 😉

Good to hear he’s got a big leg… Kind of not mentioned as his strength in scouting reports I saw.. Kind of like McCarthy’s arm strength wasn’t much of a talking point till very recent..

He wasn't the only one to do that....Too many players in Vikings history have come up small in big games to list them all......

I usually have a lot of patience but that was the breaking point for me. I tolerated the dumb ass throws short of the sticks, I put up with the throwing out of bounds etc. but when you've been in the league for a dozen years, and don't know to stop the clock...I can't take that anymore. It was time to move on.

It was just like in Zimmer's last years when we had a lead on Detroit and all we had to do was keep them out of the endzone and and they just marched right down the field and scored. Jared Goff was a statue that wilted underpressure at the time. They only pressured him on ONE play and we almost picked it off. Ultra conservative prevent defense from the "defensive mastermind".

From that game on, I wanted Zimmer gone.

Not unhappy with Cousins departure at all. It was time for new blood at the position.

Thanks for posting something to break the 4 days of dead air.

Esp bc it’s something I was interested in. I wanted to look into it but going through each game log is just too much.

I’d love to know the total through 4 years.

The times I saw Aaron Jones play with GB, I was surprised with all the times he would change what looked like a 3 yard loss, into an 8 yard gain, that he didn't bust more long TDs.

With Jones, it must be more quickness, than having overall speed. Is the same true of Jefferson?

If I could look into the future and know there were no Vikings SB to come in a decade I’d tap out for sure.

The unknown, and therefore possibility of it, still has its power but it’s waning.

I don’t know how long the high of winning would sustain me but as an addict I’d love to feel it. Ride it.

But I don’t know. Fighting this last year has been a net negative.

Whoops.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40447020/jury-rules-nfl-violated-antitrust-laws-sunday-ticket-case

If this plays out against the NFL, maybe there will be a salary cap reduction. And a few owners going belly up.
