ORIGINAL: Daniel Lee Young The biggest dumb play of the second half? Up by 8 and pooch kicking to allow a return.. This. Kick it through the back of the end zone and they win in regulation. Was the wind blowing against him? It looked to me like he gave it all he had. The Vikings received the kickoff to start the 3rd, so the wind would be at their backs in the 4th. It looked to me like it was designed short kick to force a return and eat clock. Unfortunately the Bears ate up more yardage than clock. I'm just going by the OT. We chose which way(right to left) we wanted to go and Romo kicked it out of the end zone. I'm guessing we had the wind. Short kick was left to right. I just read a story on the special teams gaffs. The kickoff was indeed supposed to be kicked out, but Romo didn't hit it square. According to the ST coach he "toed it". Metellus made the other big mistake. Ty Chandler got double blocked to the outside. Metellus was supposed to take on the blocker and maintain a two gap option. Instead, he jumpe to the inside gap and created a huge opeining on the outside, which the returner ran through and never looked back. Mundt totally effed up the onside kick. The Vikings are instructed that when the kicker uses the "watermelon ball" technique", every player is supposed to go for the ball. Mundt ignored the ball and engaged in a block. A good day for Special Teams went south in a hurry. Good: Blocked FG, perfect on our FGs, recovered muffed punt. Bad: Long KO return, onside muff, and almost a punt muff by Powell in OT
