Hellebuyck was fire today. He had no chance on that goal and made huge saves.

That was crucial in the 3rd when the USA spent the period on a 5 man penalty kill. It was like watching an early Wild team.

They switched to a one man forecheck and the other 4 dropped into a defensive shell the whole 3rd period instead of keeping the foot on the gas.
The NHL way of playing to not lose as long as we get at least a tie. But hey, we got the extra point for the OT win right?

How much did his OT Olympic game winner add to Hughes next contract. I bet it adds at least a million a year.

Congratulations to the USA women. They win the gold medal in OT. Team Canada really played a disciplined game and took the US out of their game. Great perseverance pulling the goalie and tying it up with 2 minutes to go. The 3 on 3 OT format swung the game in the USA's favor.

Yup, we came out like gang busters and that Larkin goal set the tone. And was real nice getting another one from Thompson to end the period on. I sure hope we aren't in for 2 periods of "play not to lose" now.....

If BG brings in either Tkachuk (but especially Brady) I'll be as pissed as I was when they brought in Cooke. Just a cheap shotting diver.

One hell of a 2nd period. Now I want to see them roll all 4 lines and stay healthy. I will say the Tkachuk boys have really gotten in their heads and taken them off their game. But I agree, we don't need another Voldemort on our team. I'd take another Hughes though.

I'm convinced he gets at least one point in games he doesn't even play in...

And he always gets at least 20 minutes every game too.

Why the hell would they start the Gold Medal game at 8 AM Sunday morning?
Good thing I'm an early riser.

Oh come on Jeff. The Tkachuks are nothing like Cooke. The Tkachuks are agitators to be sure, but they don't spear, kick, slash wrists and pull the knee to knee crap like Cooke did. He'll, there were a few Slovakian players who played 10X dirtier than anything the Tkachuk Brothers did.

Are you saying ignore stats in Iowa?

We may have offers for our third goalie now.

Hy shit! That was phenomenal! Boldy flicked it in the air between the defensemen and then blasted gap, corralled the puck and made a slick backhand move to beat the goalie. Just awesome.

All Canada since the start of the second. The US is on a long 5 man pk.

GOLD!!! Jack Hughes with the OT winner. Hellebuyk won that game for us.

Loved how that Hughes goal wiped the smirk off Copper's face.
And the looks of all of the Canadians faces for that matter. A hell of a finish for USA and Hellebuyck.

I also love that the Hughes brothers upstaged the Tkachuk brothers. Jack led the USA in goals, includes the gold medal winner. Quinn led the USA in points, including an assist on Boldy's goal and an OT winner of his own.

It took about 15 minutes for my heart rate to go back to normal. What a game! What an ending. Needed a tissue for the Gaudreau tribute with his kids in the photo.

Of course I'm over the moon that the US won it but even if you were just a neutral fan, that was one of the best games I've ever watched. The Wild boys made the franchise proud. They all played their asses off.

BTW - is it me or is Mattews the most overrated player on the planet? I have nothing against him but I just don't see it. Great regular season stats but that's about it.
