Pitino is clueless.
Minnesota has two clueless BB coaches in Pitino and Saunders.
It is painful, painful to watch their teams play

The Kangaroos

Remember them from my days of living in Mizzou-rah/Misery

A real obscure reason

Because the University of Kansas City, the predecessor to UMKC, did not have a mascot, the kangaroo was chosen to represent the entire school. ... The legendary cartoonist Walt Disney, who had a studio in Kansas City near campus at the time, created the first-ever design for Kasey the Kangaroo.

There's a school west of here a couple miles.
They are the Dolphins.
Hmmm.
Pretty sure Jacques Costeau never schooled around there.

What were they before that? Some politically incorrect nickname?

I'm betting something native-related
You're probably right

I have some opposing views on that whole issue
As someone with some native in me, I always perked up on this issue
I get it when people are offended, I get it when they need to change some things.
But
When I grew up we all wanted to be Chiefs, Braves, Warriors, Indians.
It made all of us want to explore the culture and embrace it.
It was a source of community pride in many small towns.
Eliminating the connotations it had did the opposite of what it intended, imo.
No kid grows up wanting to be a fighting slot machine or a one-armed bandit.
Just one opinion.

Just German and Dutch in this blood. And the only time I took offense to derogatory nicknames was when I was in the bullying years of grade school and junior high.

I finished my HS career as a Warrior. Thought that was an awesome nickname. Now it's tossed out because it offends. I guess.

In the conference I mostly grew up with there were the Cherokee Braves and Spirit Lake Indians. Both sources of past history for those city and nicknames.

IDK what they even are now. Will have to check.

And I just looked. Both retain the nicknames now.

It's my diet plan. By the time I scarf down all my morning meds, I am too full to eat breakfast.

Our offense is hard to watch. Most these guys have a better chance of becoming bricklayers than pro bb players.

Very inefficient on both sides of the court. Half court offense looks like some kids on the play ground. Absolutely no game plan whatsoever to contain the Illini big man.

Just another Gopher Men's BB season under Richard Pitino.

It was ugly. I turned it on at 18-18 and it was a shit show from there on out. My fault I guess. I gave up early in the 2nd half though so they had time to come back if it was all on me.

There big guy, Cockburn , was a force.

Gopher basketball is once again, unwatchable.

The Pitino trademark offense of standing around and passing around the perimeter combined with terrible desperation shooting is on full display.

I literally can’t remember the last time I saw a Gopher team execute a play involving something like a pick, a little misdirection, some movement without the ball, a couple of crisp passes, resulting in an easy basket.

The only Big 10 games they’ll have a chance to win this year will be when Carr scores 30 plus and carries them. He needs to be selfish and look to create a shot every single possession. Because that’s their only hope.

Whom would have thought that the Jim Dutcher days would be are pinnacle.

Looks like the Badgers have a helluva men's basketball team this year. B1G is stacked like I've never seen before.
