There are conflicting reports concerning a possible trade, which would send Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the Giants.

Let's round 'em up.

We'll start with Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, who went as far as to say the Giants are expected to land Edwards before the draft.
“The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,” a source told Cole.

“The Giants are motivated, they’re trying to win right now,” a source added. “Edwards is a bigger guy that [quarterback] Eli [Manning] wants to throw to, like he had with Plaxico. The Giants know they can’t leave Eli with no great receivers. They saw what happened last year.”
By my count, that report surfaced a little before 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News then reported that the Giants and Browns have re-opened discussions, and the talks are more substantial now than ever. A source tells Vacchiano that the Browns are eager to make a deal.
That report was published around 3:20 p.m.

However, since then, a couple of outlets have gone the other way.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com wrote at 5:26 p.m. that his source tells him a deal is currently unlikely. Florio writes that the trade won't happen unless the Browns lower their asking price and Edwards cuts his contractual expectations.

Tom Rock of Newsday reports that the teams are talking, but a deal is "not a probability" and the Giants will not overpay.
Yesterday we wrote about a National Football Post report that said the Browns had a No. 1 pick on the table for Edwards from one team. According to Rock, the Giants are not that team.

So that's where we stand right now. But I'll be back as soon as the latest rumor surfaces. Plus I've had NFL Network on in the background this whole time so you'll get some thoughts on the schedule.

I heard on Mike and Mike this morning about what Trent Dilfer said on The Herd a couple weeks ago. Dilfer thinks that Mark Sanchez will be the best qb out of this draft. I know many here don't like Dilfer's assessment of qbs, but for the sake of reporting what they said I will continue. Both M & M respect TDilfer's opinion on QBs, of course what are they going to say with all of them working for ESPN.

For the record - Matthew Stafford just feels like a bust to me. It is like he is not being himself in this process so he can be the number 1 pick, I just don't believe he is who he presents himself to be. I think he emotionally is in over his head. I have no evidence just a gut feeling. So I guess, in a way, I am receptive to what they said today:

Dilfer thinks that the fact that Sanchez has only started 16 games and is already this good, is a plus not a minus. He feels that he translates into the pro game better. USC recievers awful, rbs and Oline protection problems last year.

He gave an Alpha male example that fit, he said you give put Tebow,Bradford,Colt McCoy and Sanchez in a group and tell them to drive somewhere, the other 3 would flip the keys to Sanchez and follow him. He just has that IT that you need to be a qb in NFL.

Anyway it is here:

http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/clipArchive?showID=theherd

Just scroll down about ten or 15 until you see the part about Dilfer.

Trent Dilfer says Jay Cutler has a great skill set, but he is lacking in the intangibles. Trent also talks about the greatness of Mark Sanchez.

I am posting it here, because I really hope Dilfer is right.

He also mentioned he has more hair than the Hasselback's combined.  He may be off the deep end.

A. Nobody is dumber than Sean Salisbury

B. I merely said I hope he is right....To quote Jim Belushi...."At this point we don't know".

Um....the Hasselbeck thing was a joke as he was a mentor for Matt up in Seattle. For Dilfer to play as long as he did with the limited skill set he had, I think he is smarter than this board gives him credit for.

Well even if he is right.  Sanchez might be the best QB in this draft and still suck.  He just wont be as colossall a bust as the other guys.l

I did too, Jeff. People who wanted Cutler were quick to dismiss Dilfer's take, but now that we didn't get him, I couldn't wish for anyone to be more right. Dilfer,Childress and McDaniel are not the only ones who feel his intangibles are not there.

He is still probably 3 years away from being a stud, if he has studability, nobody waits that long anymore. The NFL wrecks them, eats them before they are ripe, loses patience before they get the time they need. Considering there are less than 10 franchiseque quarterbacks, imo, some of these first rounders that were rushed, might become functional in their 30's. Guys like Boller, Losman, Carr, Leftwich, Culpepper are going to get multiple chances, because they are still better than so many young guys each year. Since 2005, how many quarterbacks have had an impact?

Rodgers?Campbell?Orton?DerekAnderson?Cassel?Fitzpatrick?Cutler?Jackson?Clemons?Leinart?Young?Russell?TrentEdwards?Thigpen?Brady Quinn?Matt Ryan?Joe Flacco?ChadHenne?

Of the quarterbacks drafted in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 - Who will be relevant in 2009?

I say Rodgers,Campbell,Orton,Cassel,Cutler,Russell,Edwards,Ryan,Flacco.

That is 9 guys in 4 years. Average of 2 a year.

Franchiseuqe guys out of that group:

Rodgers,Cutler,Ryan and maybe Flacco(although he is not out of the woods)

QBs who had no talent are frequently jealous of the ones with talent.

Jaws was brutal on Randall and McNabb

Dilfer hard on Cutler when he couldn't carry his jock.

And at times he was right.... Seriously as good as McNabb is, there is room for critism. Cunningham was so talented physically that he left himself open for criticism when he was inconsistent.

I just don't see Dilfer as the tool that many here do. He doesn't bug me in a Salisbury, Hodge, Jaws way. I know you in years past thought Jaws would be a great offensive coordinator. Jaws has worn thin on all of us, with his overexposure.

We haven’t seen Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper yet. But by all accounts, he looks different than he did last season.
triggerAd(1,PaginationPage,2); window.google_render_ad(); “He looks like a new man,” center Dominic Raiola said today. “He looks brand-new. The guy’s really taken this re-signing serious and this job serious, his job at the quarterback position serious. He looks like he’s in great shape.”

Culpepper came out of retirement and signed with the Lions in early November. He weighed more than 290 pounds, though he is listed at 260. Raiola said Culpepper has lost “at least 20 pounds, but it’s not like he lost muscle. It looks like he’s been working.”

Wide receiver Calvin Johnson said: “I’m positive that Daunte this off-season took things seriously and got himself in better shape, because he was sitting around most of the beginning of last year before he came out to us. He’s ready to go now.”

Culpepper signed on a Tuesday and ended up starting that Sunday, Nov. 9, against Jacksonville. He started five games, throwing four touchdowns and six interceptions.

“I think it was a difficult place to put him in, coming in half the year,” Raiola said. “He didn’t know he was going to play football. I think that’s unfair.

“I think the first year after all of us retire, you’re going to kind of live it up a little bit, live the good life. He was out of shape. He knew that. He was heavy. He never played that heavy before.”

After suffering a shoulder injury, Culpepper didn’t play the final three games. Dan Orlovsky started instead. Then Culpepper restructured his contract, adding incentives to the year left on his two-year deal.

“I think he did a great job with it and did a great job handling everything that happened at the end of the season, with them playing Dan and him not playing,” Raiola said. “That’s a man. To come back with a great attitude, there’s a lot of people that couldn’t accept that, wouldn’t accept that.”

If Chili loses any games to Daunte or Cutler this upcoming season, two guys he has passed on, there's going to be a lot of heat if Jackenfels doesn't play well.
