Status: offline 		IF the Pats don't lose tonight they will lose soon. No way do they go 16-0 The Pats remind me of Mike Tyson AFTER Buster Douglas. Teams are coming after them now instead of sitting back taking a beating. I love this game.

We will see if Calvin ever gets as good as those two.[/quote] when i first saw this, i thought the same thing. then i heard two things that made me think about it. the first is that Gibbs would never had to know this rule before, since shanahan first got it going this year. but the real one, that to me really changed it, is that Gibbs said he asked the ref before calling it if it was allowed, and was told that it was. let's be real, if the refs, who's only job is the rules, don't know, it's hard to blame the coach for not knowing it, especially when he checked with them beforehand.[/quote] didnt tice ask about a play formation before a game and the ref said it would be fine, but it turns out it was an illegal formation? maybe i am remembering incorrectly if it did happen that way, i wonder if it was the same ref

Status: offline 		People can talk all day long about Brady and Welker. When Randy Moss isn't making the big plays the Pats look like an ordinary offense. Stallworth had some nice catches but Moss missing those two TDs seemed to keep the Ravens defense from caving in,

Status: offline 		I respect Tom Petty and what he has accomplished, however I really don't care for his music. It has no business being at the halftime of the SuperBowl. It's too folksy and frankly, boring. Yeah, there's been some stinker shows at halftime, but they had some energy at least. Petty may actually put the fans to sleep if the game doesn't by halftime. Prince was by far the best halftime show of the last decade plus. I always find it interesting that whenever one sees highlight reels of players or one goes to a game, it's a hard rock soundtrack; but get to the Super Bowl and hard rock is nowhere to be found. I'd pee myself if Metallica or Led Zepplin got to play. Hell, bring back David Allen Grier and Damon Wayans to do "Men on Football", that was some funny shit.

He's brilliant, IMO, and his music has the pertect mass appeal. It just classic American Rock and Roll. Start off with "American Girl" then into "You wreck me", "Last Dance with mary jane" and finish up with "Running Down a Dream" (which is a perfect match)... I don' thtink there would be a person sitting in the house. John Mellencamp kicking off the season was anything but boring, and he's basically the same type of music. Classic American Rock and Roll. Nothing wrong with that, and not putting anyone to sleep. IMO.

Cheaters, lucky, and a ridiculous def holding call by the ref on the last 4th down. Not to mention it wasn't a TD catch. Not to mention the stupid time out on the previous 4th down. Or the hail mary catch that got stopped on the 2. Or the illegal motion on the 4th down that also got stopped. Or the tipped ball 40 feet in the air late that somehow wasn't caught. Etc. Etc. Etc. The Vikings would be 50/50 to beat the Pats in an outdoor stadium with December weather conditions. Right now. Blueprint? Smack Moss in the mouth. Blitz Brady if they pull that BS 5 wide crap. Exploit their defense with runs, runs, runs up their ass. When they overcommit to the run, exploit the middle of the field with 15 yard passes. Don't make a mistake. I sort of hope they now go 16-0 and then lay a turd in the playoffs.

Teams have never (or at least for a loooong time) been able to call consecutive timeouts. Before 2005, whenever it happened, the 2nd TO was ignored and the clock started immediately. For the 2005 season they added that if a team called a second consecutive TO during a FG or PAT attempt it would result in a 15 yard penalty. It's horrible if the ref misinformed him, but that's a rule he should know.

The report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen said Garcia sustained a hairline fracture. Garcia was hurt in last week's victory against Washington and was the inactive No.3 quarterback Sunday, one who is used only as a last resort. "There's a lot of reports out there," Gruden said. "I just wish some of these reports were verified. (Mortensen) doesn't have a (expletive) idea what he's talking about. I can't understand why he would say that unless he got the X-rays himself." Garcia said he felt good about his prospects for playing next week at Houston and denied he sustained structural damage. "I'm ready to go next week," he said. "I think I'm going to be healthy enough to continue on all throughout the season." Garcia had designs on playing in New Orleans, making it known with an early visit to Gruden's hotel room. And you had no problem with the no-call on Mason taking Samuel down by the head while the ball was in the air? Incidentally, the "illegal motion" was actually a false start penalty.

Status: offline 		I wasn't saying the false start wasn't legitimate. Just that it was incredibly fortunate considering the 4th down play got stuffed (for a 2nd time). A 5 yard penalty against NE that worked hugely to their favor (again citing the lucky things that went right for NE). I've only seen the replay of the other unsuccessful 4th down saved by penalty/TO (3rd time now) once. This is the holding by "Winborne" (taking your word on the name). The one time I saw the replay I saw a TE releasing off the line being hand checked by a defender who released him downfield. Certainly didn't look like holding to me no. Maybe illegal contact >5 yards downfield but that's a ticky tack call at that stage of the game. I'd like to see that replay again. No no problem with the Samuel interference non-call as they play mattered bubkis. Are you saying the Pats didn't get incredibly lucky to win that game?

 Absolutely the Patriots were lucky but Baltimore did more than enough to give it away. They had it and let it go. Even though the Patriots were fortunate, I give them credit. Two weeks in a row they have been socked in the mouth and beaten badly at the line of scrimmage but still came away with W's. Personally, I think it would be better for the Patriots to lose a game. I think they may wear down emotionally and physically because every team they face is going to hit 'em hard and I'm not sure they can continue to stand up to it.

Status: offline 		I thought I was torn about wanting them to go 16-0 because BB is so irritating but I think the '72 Dolphins are also obnoxious. But them last night I found myself really rooting for the Ravens so I guess I don't want them to do it. If it doesn't happen against the Steelers they will go 16-0 because none of the remaining teams has a good enough running game to overpower them the way they can be beat. Of course losing in the playoffs is a definite possibility...

Pete's right; Baltimore pretty much did everything possible to hand the game to New England. 4th & 5 or 6 with the game on the line would be enough to make most QBs freak out. But Tom Brady handled it perfectly, twice. The first huge mistake for Baltimore was some idiot calling timeout just before the 4th & 1. Then there were all the costly penalties at the very end of that NE drive. It was painful to watch.

CLASSIC ROCK For some reason I would strongly prefer either a classic rock band, old school R&B band like Earth, Wind & Fire, or some other all time great for halftime versus middle of the road "safe" choices. There are few new acts that I want to hear but I am an old fart anyway. I guess I could be forced to watch Beyonce!
