Bucs extend Gruden until 2011.
I like Chucky. They must, too.

I think he is overrated.  The day he develops a strong offense in TB I will change my mind.

He inherited a great defense from Dungy/Kiffin and then upped the offense slightly and won.  Since then he has had to build his own offense and for 5 straight years it has been bad.

I thought I heard a radio announcer say today that Brett Favre never had a losing season in his first 14 seasons.  Is that true?

Wow.  I've got to give it up.  That's pretty impressive.

Definitely impressive.  I don't think either you or me ever claimed he's some mediocre QB though, David.  We just both have him outside our top 10.  I stand by that.

You almost have to have two top 10s - one before the rules changes and one afterwards.

AFTERWARDS

1. Montana
2. Brady
3. Moon
4. Elway
5. Favre
6. Marino
7. Cunningham
8. Fouts
9. Kelly
10.Young

If we're going just "after rule changes, then yes, I would have basically your group of players, in some order, but everyone on that list save Kelly and maybe Fouts are above Favre IMO.  And I might put Aikman above him too.  So ya, he's borderline top 10 even in that scenario to me.

I was actually just gonna ask the other day ....
What ever happened to Jim Zorn?
I see he is currently the top choice as Redskins O-coordinator.
Currently Seahawks QB coach. As Johnny Carson used to say ....
I did not know that.

Shaun Rogers is a goner

The Lions have decided to part with the star defensive tackle this off-season via trade or release, the Free Press has learned.

The Lions won’t confirm the information. They generally do not comment on such reports, and they wouldn’t want to weaken their negotiating position in trade talks.

But Lions coach Rod Marinelli has decided not to bring back Rogers, according to a person familiar with the Lions’ thinking. The story was first reported today by the St. Petersburg Times' Rick Stroud on ESPN2’s “First Take.”

Rogers’ trade value is unclear. He already has served a four-game suspension for taking a banned dietary supplement. If he tests positive again, and he will face an eight-game suspension. He also has three years left on his contract.

Rogers is immensely talented and can dominate a game. He has been to two Pro Bowls. But he doesn’t always get the most out of talent, and Marinelli, a former defensive line coach, hasn’t been able to reach him the way he reached Warren Sapp in Tampa Bay.

The first eight games this season, Rogers was excellent. The highlight of the season was his 66-yard interception return for a touchdown Nov. 4 in the 44-7 rout of Denver that made the Lions 6-2.

Rogers also had 2 ½ sacks in that game – and celebrated one with a somersault – not to mention four quarterback hurries, three tackles and a pass defense. He was named NFC defensive player of the week.

But in the six-game losing streak that eliminated the Lions from the playoffs, Rogers disappeared.

Marinelli gave Rogers a long leash last off-season because he was coming off knee and shoulder surgeries. The hope was that Rogers would be in the best physical shape possible so he could perform on Sundays. But Rogers, listed at 340 pounds, weighed at least 360 and didn’t sustain his level of play.

Rogers made an impact Dec. 23 against Kansas City, but that was after the Lions were already out of the race.

After a news conference Jan. 17, Marinelli said he expected every player under contract to report for the Lions’ off-season conditioning program, including Rogers. He acknowledged Rogers’ weight would be an issue.

“He was a good player for us for nine games,” Marinelli said then. “But it’s the endurance all the way through the season, that’s what I’m looking for.”

This is an out take from an ESPN article online about whats going on with the Dolphins.

"The situation that we're in is that Bill does oversee everything," Ireland said. "But yet I am the GM and we have a head coach, so there is going to be a triangle of communication involved here.

Whats wrong with these guys?  Have they not seen the Vikings version of the Triangle????  Look for the Dolphins to rebuild very slowly.......

re: Shaun Rogers, sign him!

Man, wouldn't he be sweet as our "developmental" DT?

Hell, I'd look into getting KW to trim down and play a bunch of DE again.

    Don Shula Regrets Spygate Comments
    Sat Jan 26, 2008

AP reports Don Shula revisited Spygate on Friday, saying his earlier criticism of the New England Patriots was ill-advised. "I'm probably not the guy that should have said it," he said. Shula coached the 1972 Miami Dolphins to the NFL's only perfect season. New England will finish 19-0 if it beats the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. In November, Shula said the Patriots' success was diminished by the spying scandal that prompted stiff punishment from the NFL early in the season. On Friday, he acknowledged that because the Patriots threaten to match his team's perfect-season achievement, his comments could be interpreted as sour grapes. "I think a lot of people, when I said it, perceived it as helping yourself," Shula said. Following the Patriots' season opener, the NFL determined New England used a video camera to spy on opposing coaches and steal signals. Commissioner Roger Goodell fined HC Bill Belichick $500,000 and docked the team $250,000 and a first-round draft pick in 2008. "As I mentioned, I didn't fine them," Shula said. "I didn't take away the draft choice. I wasn't the one that coined the term 'Spygate.' All those things happened, and all I did was refer to them. "Somebody else probably should have done it instead of me, because people thought it was self-serving when I did it."

For real

He said what he meant - and he was right.

Then the NFL btchslapped him and now he is running around with his tail between his legs.

Shameful

I can't believe he would bend over like this

I love it.  Shula's an idiot.  Like the Pats weren't going to win the game against the Jets no matter what?

It doesn't diminish one damn thing the Pats have done.

I would love nothing more than (when the Pats win the superbowl next week) for Tom Brady to pour out a big swig of his champagne and say "This is for you '72 Dolphins!"

That would be classic.

Giants' Ruegamer keeps things loose

Castrating a lamb with your teeth is a pretty simple procedure, really. Grey Ruegamer knows. "You grab the forelegs and pin them to the ground, and then you grab the back legs and throw them on their back," Ruegamer said. And when the, uh, target area is exposed, "away you go. It's the way the Basques do it."

As for the procedure itself, "you pull them out with your teeth, spit them in a bucket, next one.

Hitler
Vick
Ruegamer

In all seriouness this guy is not Basque and this is nuts.

In all seriousness I'm not a big fan of animals being treated this way.
