Bynum wanted to stay with Lakers. They might get him back when he becomes a free agent. This makes me sick

You think he'd take a 17M/year pay cut to go back to LA?

The only possible way he goes back to LA is if they trade Howard for him....

DL you never know how they can work it out. I was just pointing out that was where he wants to be. The part about makes me sick has nothing to do with Bynum. It has everything to do with the Lakers basically being given Howard for free.

Assuming a max extension for Dwight, Lakers would have $90.8M committed to just seven players in 2013-14.

Russia up 9-7 early. Shved with a couple assists already. Kirilenko can't shoot straight so far 0-3. I like the graphics from the ESPN game cast showing where the shots are taken from and the basketball in flight going in or bouncing out.

If Howard bails out Bynum would seem like a natural replacement. I don't see them coexisting very well. Lakers might move Gasol in a deal for Bynum if Howard leaves. I don't understand all the salary rules and I am not very interested in learning them. It just seems like the Lakers almost always get what they want. So glad they didn't get KG. That deal for Paul should have been approved though. That was a messed up situation.

One bright spot was according to the box score I saw Russia had no TOs. Is that accurate?

Yes. They were too busy fouling and missing shots to turn it over.

Kirilenkl gets a block and a TO to own the only block or TO for russia so far. Russia pulling away a bit 21-14. Nobody else got in a prediction but if I am proud to have supported my Russian Comrades.

EDIT: Make that 27-14. Starting to be a blowout. Shved being distributor with 4 assists so far but has only taken one shot. AK with another block.

27-14 Russia.

I know from a Spanish poster at TWolvesCentral that Spain has an awful and hated coach, but I don't see why they aren't better.

Even w/o Ricky, they have Pau and Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, JCN and Rudy Fernandez. All 5 are legit NBA players at worst. Plus they have Claver who will be playing for Portland this year.

AK and Shved a combined 1-10 shooting so far and Russia still has a nice 11 point lead.

31-20 at the half. AK only 1-8 shooting so far but blocking shots, stealing the ball and getting rebounds. If Shved and AK were making shots this game would probably be locked up already. Spain shot 6-29 in first half assuming my stats from ESPN gamecast are accurate but I heard they might not be.

I thought you could carry any payroll you want in the NBA, as long as your willing to pay that salary tax thingy.

Sure. But once you're at the cap, you can't add new salaries, only pay more to the guys you already have. The Lakers will be far enough over the Luxury Tax Apron, that they'll only be able to add 1 player with the smaller mid-level exception (3M) and other players for the minimum.

Spain making a strong comeback scoring more in the third Quarter than they did in the first half. Tie game 46-46 with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter. Shved with 6 assists but only 1-5 shooting.

Judging by the stats Pau Gasol has been the dominant player on the floor. 14 points 11 boards pretty sure he hit a three pointer. Pitch in a couple assists.

Shved with a couple of late TOs and Spain takes the lead and pulling away a bit. 55-49 with 5 minutes to go.

OK this game looks over. Spain by ten points now 60-50. Russia has only scored four points in the fourth quarter with about four minutes left. Not going to score enough to pull this out in the last four minutes.

Kirilenko with two missed FTs with exactly a minute to go in the game. Then goes back to the line seconds later and misses another. Simply horrible shooting day 2-11 from field and 5-10 from the line.

Geez what an awful trade for Orlando.

Team Receives in trade
Lakers Dwight Howard
Nuggets Andre Iguodala
76ers Andrew Bynum, Jason Richardson
Magic* Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless
*- Magic also will receive a protected 1st-round pick from each of the other three teams

According to Woj, the Nets final offer in July: Lopez, Humphries (1 year, $9.6M), Brooks, 4 unprotected No. 1's for Howard, JRich, Duhon, Clark.

Wow that offer sure looks a lot better than the one they got in the end.

Here's what Orlando got:

quote:

Orlando has acquired Aaron Afflalo and Al Harrington from Denver, Maurice Harkless and Nikola Vucevic from Philadelphia, as well as Josh McRoberts and Christian Eyenga from the Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition, the Magic have also acquired five additional draft picks over the next five years. Orlando receives: a second round pick from Denver in 2013, a first round pick from either Denver or New York in 2014, a conditional first round pick from Philadelphia and a conditional second round pick from the L.A. Lakers in 2015, and a conditional first round pick from the L.A. Lakers in 2017.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/222938/Dwight_Howard_Traded_To_Lakers#ixzz23AcPoDd9

Basically a bunch of bench guys and some sh*tty picks. The Nets' 4 unprotected 1st round picks would've been much, much better

Afflalo is really good. But he should be your 4th best player. And at 7.5M is not a good value if you aren't a contending level team.

John Amaechi commentary:
“there is no time when Shved is on the floor that I feel any kind of safety for the russians…his capability to do the remarkable is only matched by his capability to do the absurd”

David Kahn looks downright visionary compared to the idiots in Orlando's FO.
