John Amaechi commentary:
“there is no time when Shved is on the floor that I feel any kind of safety for the russians…his capability to do the remarkable is only matched by his capability to do the absurd”

Shved comments are starting to remind me of that pt guard we got from Orlando that Taylor over paid and we ended up giving up alot just to rid ourdelves of him. can't think of his name.

David Kahn looks downright visionary compared to the idiots in Orlando's FO.

Just realizing not to trade away McHale's picks in Love and Pek makes him rank higher than those clowns

Yeah. By all accounts, Shved seems to be a creative, legitimate talent with questionable decision-making and maturity issues. Like others, I'm optimistic that he'll figure it out in the NBA, but frankly, the best way to ensure that is to hedge a bit and have at least one capable SG who you know can log major minutes if necessary. Roy is not that guy at this time. I really don't want to see guys playing our of position or guys getting playing time when they're not earning it, just because there's no other viable option. The Wolves should be too good for that mentality this season.

I know there has been talk about the Wolves waiting until after the Olympics to make another move and that this potential move allegedly involves acquiring a front court player. This would likely require parting with Williams and/or Ridnour. But I really have to ask if that's the right move at this time. I think I would prefer to either make a move for a quality SG or better yet - sit tight and see how the season starts, keeping the powder dry with both Ridnour and Williams until Adelman and company see what they've got. In the meantime, sign someone like Dominic McGuire or Anthony Parker (or even stat-friendly Elijah Milsap) on the cheap just in case and kick things off with a roster of 14 allowing for future moves.

Who, Chickenhead? I don't see much of a comparison between Troy Hudson and Shved if that's to whom you're referring.

<edit> I think the closest comparison to Shved might be White Chocolate.

Alright, where's that guy who kept yapping over and over about the luxury tax and how it would hamper the Lakers?

Howard
Gasol
Bryant
Nash
MWP

Still not sold on that except Antawn Jamison off the bench too? THAT I like!

Don't know much about Earl Clark, Duhon would be just a guy but he's from Duke so he automatically sucks!

Heard some commentary about the trade from the Magic perspective. While the Brooklyn trade had more talent, those were contracts the Magic didn't want. This deal allows them the flexibility to be around 25 million under in 2014, where they can sign whomever at the price they like.

The trade doesn't help them today, but in two years, who knows. It's not like they were trying to compete this year anyway.

The luxury tax doesn't change until the 2013-14 season, so the Lakers won't be hampered much right away. But in 2013-14 the incremental rate kicks in, and then in 2014-15 the repeater rate takes effect. Assuming the Lakers resign Howard and don't cut any major salary (like Gasol), they will be paying about $100 million to 8 players in 2013-14 and probably around $110 in total salary. If the luxury tax threshold rises from $70 to $75 million that season, they will be roughly $35 million over the threshold. According to Coon's FAQ (http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q21), they will have a tax bill of $108.75 million.

That seems bad enough, but the following season is when things get even worse. If the Lakers were to commit $110 million to salaries again, they would pay significantly more in luxury tax because the repeater rate will kick in (since they would be paying the tax for the third year in a row). The repeater rate is basically an extra $1 million in tax for every $1 million you're over the luxury tax threshold. So being $35 million over the threshold would result in a tax of $143.75 million that season.

I just don't see the Lakers paying around $150 million in luxury tax, and I will keep "yapping" about it until it actually happens (at which time I will gladly eat my words). It's hard enough to see the Lakers paying $108 million in 2013-14. I suspect they will try to cut salary to keep that from happening. Artest and Gasol will be easier to move with only one season left each, and they may even use the amnesty clause on one of them. Just getting down to $90 million will cut their tax bill to $28.75 million, which is about what they will be paying this season (with the old tax rate still in effect).

Gasol will play out his contract. He only has two years left on that deal. Artest will probably be amnestied next season, unless he plays like he's 3 years younger.

Gasol will play out his contract.

That depends on whether the Lakers think he is worth roughly $90 million ($20 million salary and about $70 million in luxury tax).

Players have this year and next for big pay days. After that when the killer tax kicks in , only Houston, Orlando and maybe Dallas will have much Cap room. I don't see a big payday for Gasol once the tax kicks in. He is not that great of a player, that you will want to build a team around. He can't carry a team and hes maybe a 4th option on a championship team.

Howard goes from a state with no state tax to one that has a high state tax. He better ask for big raise

The most he can get is 105% of his 2012-13 salary. Anything more than that is not allowed by the CBA.

Thought he won a couple of titles just a few yrs ago as the #2 option.

Maybe you mean now that he's so old (turned 32 in July)?

this is just stupid (if true):

quote:

The Nets attempted to trade for Dwight Howard in December, March and again in July, offering a package centered around Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and four unprotected first round picks.

Brooklyn also would have taken back the contracts of Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark, who were ultimately included in the four-team trade.

A source says the Nets and Magic had animosity in their trade talks due to Orlando's contention that Brooklyn illegally contacted Howard in December without permission.

The Nets deny meeting with Howard and the Magic have never filed charges with the NBA.

Four unprotected first round picks should've beaten what they got.

That raise will come from his endorsements which will pay him between 40-50 million more now that he plays in a large market.

Did the Nets actually want Brook Lopez on a max (for him) contract or Kris Humphries at all? I think people miss some of those key questions when they look at trade parameters and what they got or were offered.

The Magic are starting over from scratch, evident by hiring Jacque Vaughn as their coach. Theyre not reloading or retooling for a playoff run. They wanted financial flexibility and draft picks and while what the Nets offered certainly provided the picks (although those figured to be low 1st rounders), the deal didnt come with the financial freedom desired.

The deal they took looks bad from a talent standpoint and the picks dont seem to be as valuable, but they do get the financial flexibility and most of the picks could turn out to be better than the Brooklyn picks would have been (though we'll never know since we wont know the outcome of a Nets team with DH). Clearly, that was important to them. It had to be to take a deal like this.

They certainly liked this deal better than anything else they were offered and werent interested in re-visiting the Nets in January and their probably similar offer of a guy on a max contract they didnt want, although Humphries' deal would have been attractive at that point.

Are you just guessing that ? Do you have any evidence to suggest their is any truth to the idea that he will be paid more endorsement money for playing for the Lakers? Just trying to find out for sure about this stuff. My understanding is that national endorsements don't really care who you play for and Howard will presumably be national as he is a huge star. I don't know how many local endorsements he would bother with.

Love playing very well today. Has to guard a very hot Pau Gasol in the third. Love with a perfectly clean strip of Gasol and gets called for his third foul.
