ORIGINAL: Bill Johanesen Glad to see the Lakers tie the Celts for most NBA championships. They were led by two superstars who wanted to come to LA, with one of them expected to resign. It's true they failed to sign LaMarcus Aldridge for whatever reason(s), but the 17th title IMO puts to rest the myth that the aura of L.A. is no more. Now to the offseason. Anybody want to sign a valuable member of numerous championship teams? Call 1-800 Danny Green. Yours for a mere $15 million. You can have Kuzma too, although with his current contract he is a value. I remember when ESPN went on a week long tirade that Jeannie Buss and Pelinka should step down. Lakers in turmoil. Buss and Pelinka owe it all to LeBron's wife. Nope. Kobe loved Pelinka and Buss. LBJ loved Kobe. That was the connection. Being one of the Top 2 storied franchises in the NBA didn't hurt either. LeBron wanted to be in LA to be around his production company more often. His wife didn't want the family separated and she pretty much demanded they move to LA. Don't Clippers play in LA? Clippers had no way of signing him. They weren't even an option. Yes they were. Lakers had more cap room but Clips had arguably better roster at that time. Ingram and Ball were still question marks at that time. LeBron was a Free Agent and the Clippers only had the MLE to work with. And all the Clippers high priced players were veterans that wouldn't have been of any intrest to Cleveland in a sign and trade. They had traded Griffin and were willing to trade Jordan and Lou Williams to get space to sign him. So he would've been on a capped out team with no young talent and no apparent path to get better. He wanted to go to LA for work and family. Basketball was #3. He picked the team that had cap space and a couple young, high lottery picks. The guy that wants to be the GOAT. Yeah, basketball was #3. So he thought his best chance at more titles was a team that hadn't made the Playoffs in 6 years? Choosing LA was a business/family move.
