Alaska is good and they started the season 5-1. This will be a tough one for BSU. We're going with Bitzer tonight.

The announcer says some people might watch Bitzer and think he's lazy, but in reality it's just that he's so smooth.

Only 2 Fitzgeralds in the lineup again tonight. Wonder what's up with the 3rd one? Still on the team? How many inactive guys does a DI hockey program usually have?

Pretty impressed with Arentz tonight. He's been all over the place. BSU is up 3-1 after 2 periods. I was just looking at the polls. It's a joke that BSU isn't even receiving votes. They beat #2 UND in the opener. Then they lost a close one to UND. They also played the Gophers pretty close. Now they're up on #16 Alaska (5-1 record) by a couple goals with only 1 period left. No guarantees they win this game, of course, but they are playing well against some good teams.

BSU women tied the #1 Gophers tonight 2-2. (Bemidji State won the shootout - I'm not sure if that means anything (?))

BSU men now lead Alaska 4-1.

Sorry to leave you in here alone last night Matt. I took my son to the game last night, so you'll get an on-site report instead.

First off, the crowd was pretty sparse last night. They said the attendance was over 3,000 but there's no way that's accurate. Maybe with Halloween and Bemidji's HS team playing at home in the section final, there was some effect on attendance. The student section was full, and they were pretty loud.

It was a really entertaining game. The first period started out a little slow, but it was up and down the ice for both the second and third periods. Honestly, 6-1 was probably not indicative of the game played. Shots were pretty much even all the way throughout, and Alaska's goalie had a pretty rough 3rd period. I was waiting for him to get the hook, but he stayed out there. That SMF guy knows his hockey - he was telling us we'd like Bitzer, and I'm very excited to have him in the program for the next few years. He made some really good saves, and he seems pretty big in the goal.

I remember saying how young we are before the season. That's not entirely true. All of our forwards are very young, and I think there's a lot of potential there. But our defensemen are older and very experienced. Prapavessis and Rindle are good and big, and they really do a good job of controlling the play. Sounds like we're going with Walsh tonight. You were probably right about them splitting time at the beginning of the season and seeing who they like more. I will say that Walsh was very supportive and being a good teammate last night, which might be hard for a senior who's seeing a freshman taking his job.

Like you said Matt, Alaska's a pretty good team. They're ranked #16 and a lot of pollsters are just going to see we beat them by 5 goals. Let's do it again tonight, and get back into the polls!

Way to get the sweep Beavers! That's a big 4 points against a good team to start the WCHA season. Next weekend, we face the league favorites down in Mankato. I'd be really happy with a split.

I can hardly believe this:

This weekend's sweep marks the Beavers' first at Sanford Center since Feb. 10-11, 2012 versus Colorado College (4-1 and 4-2).

I guess it makes sense though....that's what can happen when you lose to Alabama-Huntsville.

Thanks for the report, Drew. I saw pretty much all of the Friday night game. Missed the Saturday game completely. I guess Leo Fitzgerald was out with the flu again. Weird, because he was practicing all week. Maybe he gets nervous and tosses his cookies before games?

Horrible experience in GF this weekend.

The Sue were beat by Air Force for about 59 minutes.
And of course AF ended up blowing it in the last minute and then majorly blowing it in OT
And The Sue celebrated like they won a Natty Championship, of course.

And Red Pepper to-go is a staple on Sundays.

Mankato leads BSU 2-1 after the 1st period. Looks like BSU scored a big goal with just a few seconds left in the 1st. Could be huge. If I still had cable, I could have watched this on the Mankato State channel I mysteriously had access to. Damn DISH.

I see Leo Fitzgerald is back for this game after sitting out the last 2 series. I believe he is the least heralded of the triplets. Needs to get something on the board soon (other than a penalty

Nah, you're still a hockey genius SMF (at least compared to me)!! Mankato took it to us this weekend, I was hoping to get something out of this weekend but wasn't really expecting it. They are really, really good. I think they're a team that's a contender to not just make the NCAAs, but to make a deep run.

Everyones been saying that down here ... that they will have a very very nice team.
Wouldn't surprise me, they seemed to be loading up the past couple years.
I haven't seen them but hope to soon.
Best-kept secret still in DI hockey .. that rink over there, where you can usually get a great seat for a couple bucks, and still see DI action.
