I know nothing about Blakes Bortles, other than the fact that there's no way anyone with that name is going to be a successful NFL QB.  This could be Spielman's Waterloo.

From Peter King:

. I think the strangest thing I heard on the NFL Network’s combine telecast over the weekend came from Mike Mayock, who, on the one hand, called Blake Bortles a certain franchise quarterback, then said he under-threw some deep throws horribly. Not sure how you can be one with the other.

Bortles has the prototypical size and arm strength and looked really good at the combine. His down side is that he played at a smaller school.

Shazier is a speed merchant who runs himself out plays way too often. If Zimmer can harness his energy the right way, watch out. He could be a monster LBer.

I have to say, draft analysis is getting to the point of silliness.

I heard yesterday that while it was true that Russell Wilson has proven small QBs can succeed in the NFL (I guess Drew Brees didn't?), there are still concerns about Manziel because he isn't as "thick" as Wilson.

At this point it would be a major surprise if Bortles was on the board at #8.

And Phil Sims says there isn't a franchise QB in this draft.

Take it for what it's worth

Are these the same guys who were calling Leinert, Young and Cutler the Year of the Quarterback?

I could live with that.

Not a snowball's chance in hell of it happening, but still.

Manziel getting ripped. Jaws says he's a 3rd rounder.

Switzer, of all people, calls him an arrogant little prick.

Man i want the Vikes to draft him

Still chuckling after reading that Switzer comment.
What's next? Me calling someone out for being a smarmy smart-ass?
Same here Ed ... I'd love to have Johnny, just for the entertainment value alone.
The Mn Sheep crowd would have collective coronaries across the state.
if there was any way we could get him to join the Twins, it may finally end the long, cold, bleak nightmare we know as .... the Gardenhire Era.
Guaranteed Ronny Aneurism.

SI.com has #4 FreeAgent, Michael Johnson of Cincy, as a best-fit for MN

The franchise kept him off the market last season. Likely won’t happen again. He’s a physical freak at 6-7 and 260 pounds and tough against the run, but could improve as pass-rusher. Best fit: Vikings. New coach Mike Zimmer gives them an edge.

The batshit crazy thing about Switzer's comments is that in the next breath he said he was the best, most dynamic college QB he's ever seen in over 40 years in the business.

So many head-scratchers in that regard ...
Heard some mucky-muck say yesterday that he wasn't that excited about Manziel, because he was a cross between Tarkenton and Flutie.
Ummmmm, excuse me?
Not excited by that?
The two statements don't match in my world.
I hear winner/winner chicken dinner in that description.

That's another head scratcher.  Yeah, who would ever want a cross between a HOF quarterback and a quarterback with a very nice career, which basically equals a top 5 or 10 qb in the league?

Tarks abilities combined with Flutie's and their combined feistiness?

Jeepers, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Yeah, he's suckered me into a couple other guys before .. but watching the teaser of Johnny Footballs session with Gruden last night sold me on that kid even more.
Sign me the hell up.

I'm still partial toward Bridgewater. I still think Johnny Football is going to spend a lot of time out with injuries.

That's the beauty of it with you guys. One of you will be wrong, and one of you will be right. The difference is SMF will admit it if he's wrong, but Sweeney will go to his grave arguing he was right all along.

Forget about getting Johnny. He didn't throw at the combine, ok that isn't new, but he also won't throw at A&M pro day. So the only place for him to throw will be personal team workouts. This gives him the chance to choose what team he wants to draft him.

And Teddy didn't do any workouts at the combine. Now that is unusual. He might be hiding a nagging injury

Given his attempts at rebuilding his image, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to for JFF to get real choosy among the teams with high draft picks.  He doesn't have Eli-like leverage to demand a trade.

That said, I think he'll be long gone by pick eight.
