Eric from Canis:

The Wolves announced they have waived three players: Amile Jefferson, Melo Trimble, and yesterday’s signing Shawne Williams. All three are now NBA free agents, but appear likely to start the season with the Wolves G-League affiliate in Iowa.

Jefferson and Trimble were both signed this summer as undrafted rookie free agents. Jefferson a power forward from Duke, was on the Wolves summer league team and earned a camp invite. He’s gotten a long look, and will have a chance to impress in the G-League. Trimble, a point guard from Maryland, was signed later and was never going to make the team given their need for a veteran third point guard. Williams was signed for Iowa as he tries to work his way back to the NBA.

Among the non-guaranteed players in training camp, that leaves Marcus Georges-Hunt, who looks as if he will make the opening night roster, which means his contract is guaranteed through January 10th and $275,000. Georges-Hunt was signed to a 10-Day contract last season with the Miami Heat for whom he did not appear, and then the Orlando Magic signed him for the rest of the season in early April, and he appeared in five games.

Georges-Hunt is 23 years old, and played four years at Georgia Tech. A solidly built, 6’5” shooting guard, he had a very good if unspectacular college career. He’s decent at a bunch of things, but not necessarily great at anything. He’s the kind of player, when looking at his college stats, you think “If he was only a better three-point shooter...” He shot 33 percent over four college seasons from three, and was never higher than 34 percent.

He did, however, shoot much better in the D-League last season. Not only did he make 39 percent of his threes on almost 200 attempts, but he also made 89 percent of his free throws on significant volume as well. If there is an actual shooter in there, Georges-Hunt could emerge as a useful Three-and-D player. At any rate, unless something unusual happens in the next few days, he’ll be drawing an NBA paycheck for at least the next three months, so congratulations to him.

Last Britt column at MinnPost. He's apparently moving to a new site after this one:

He's going to The Athletic. Seems like a really cool paper with a strong Minnesota section. I'll probably drop the $4/month to try it out when he starts.

There were only six players left on the court a few minutes after Timberwolves practice ended on Oct. 10. Players were quick to leave the facility the day after landing back in Minneapolis after a 16-hour return trip from China that completed an 18-day trip to open training camp. But those six who stayed on the court refused to leave. They went on to play a series of one-on-one contests that lasted more than an hour. There was Melo Trimble, Amile Jefferson, Anthony Brown and Marcus Georges-Hunt — four young guys with no guarantee of making Minnesota’s 15-man roster, all trying to get in any extra work possible and maybe make a good impression on the right person in hopes of earning a roster spot. The fifth player was ageless veteran Jamal Crawford. The sixth? Jimmy Butler, the Wolves’ new All-NBA wing, one of the best two-way players in the world, whom Minnesota acquired via a draft-night trade with Chicago this summer.

Deadline Day for the Jazz to use $16 mil in cap space that expires at midnight. As covered here earlier this week, Utah covets Ricky Rubio
8:26 AM - 30 Jun 2017

If we're dead set on moving Ricky, trading him for Hood (and maybe a future pick) wouldn't be the worst move. We'd clear about 12M in cap space and add a very good young shooter to our bench.

Here's one.
