Cleveland pushed on deal centered on No. 1 pick for Kevin Love, but his refusal to re-sign w/ Cavs has killed talks

this is why Flip is not going to be able to get a windfall for Love.

Like the Boston rumored deal, it is probably for just 1/4th of the players, picks mentioned.

Love and his agent are steering this bus too.

Flip has it tough.

Find one of Love's desired locations and get that team to offer something reasonable.

True. What is the list of his desired locations? Golden State, and where else?

It's not the greatest situation to be sure, and maybe that's why Flip didn't/couldn't get a coach in here. At the same time, he knew what he was getting into when he became a partial owner of the team; it's not like the situation with Love being unhappy and unlikely to resign was a secret. So I don't feel too bad for him.

Flip put a lot of his eggs into the basket of winning last year and convincing Love to stay. He failed, and now has to do the best he can with the results.

Too bad we couldn't bribe LeBron to go clubbing in Clev and get the old hope wagon hooked up so Love would go there.

Although, I do not think the #1 pick is that valuable in this particular draft. Anyone in the top 6-8 could end up being the best player in this group. Clev should take the sixers offer #3 & #5

That's why I think we can get more out of Boston. That seems to be one place where Love is willing to re-sign. Honestly if they can get #6, #17 and Sully, they should do it. If they can one of the future picks for Love re-signing, all the better.

Boston. Remember his big time hanging out with Rondo in Boston a couple of weeks ago?

Good point. If Love resigns we get a #1 pick(brooklyn) and if they make the playoffs we get another #1

It's just well we couldn't. Knowing Glen, he would have put it in writing and we would have the #1 pick stripped away from us.

Probably only Love, his agent Schwartz and the Wolves know.

The only leverage Flip has in the trade talks is to be willing to start the season with Love on the Wolves.

Okay, you want to lowball offer me a trade for Love...no thanks. Good luck with your Plan B this offseason. Talk to you later.

Love has to be somewhat reasonable and give Flip 2 or 3 teams to work with.

But GMs also know how uncomfy our locker room will be with every player knowing he doesn't want to be here.

Flip's not gonna break the bank here, McHale probably will get a better package for KG in hindsight than Flip can get for Love now.

Rondo probably was told by Ainge to downplay it and didn't want to cause a tampering type situation but he said he only talked to Love for 35 seconds or something when they ran into each other.

I don't think McHale got all that bad of a deal. KG won a title in year 1 and fell off fast after that. Kahn turned around and basically said Al was overrated and then sold low.

Not me. I don't want either, but Stauskus at least can shoot and pass at the NBA level. He's basically Kirk Heinrich without the defense...

LaVine is Gerald Green of 2005. All the athletic ability in the world, but absolutely no BBIQ on the court. I think he's going to need some years in the DLeague (of which we have NO affiliation anymore) or maybe even Europe.

Knight didn't play much to start the season because they also signed OJ May and didn't know what they have in Knight, look at his splits---particularly the 1st and last months---the kid is on the rise. He was asked to defend the top guard most nights and still put up good stats, the Pistons said he was their best wing defender before they traded him.

Knight is a star on the rise---mark it down.

Basically OJ Mayo was benched after a month due to his play....but believe what you will.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/6448/brandon-knight

Wasn't Knight dealing with an injury that prevented him from playing and then limited him during the first month?

He's a good offensive player. He's just really bad at defense. Not Kevin Martin bad, but well below average.

Everyone beats out Mayo...he's just not good.

DL where were you on the Mayo situation back when we traded him for Kevin Love. Just curious if you got a hit or a miss on that one?

I'd like to see us move our 3 2nd round picks and move up into the 1st round to get Glenn Robinson III. I still think he has potential, but I wouldn't take him at #13.

If we're doing that I really want Spencer Dinwiddie. Robinson being unable to shoot scares me.

Wasn't Robinson's dad an excellent shooter? Did the apple fall a ways from the tree?

Actually the more I look at Dinwiddie, if his knee checks out, I really want him.

Ideal SG size that can drive, shoot and pass:

Attempted four 3s a game and hit them at 41%
Got to the line 7 times a game and hit his FTs at 86%
And he added 4 assists per game.
And 1,5 steals for good measure.

quote:

He looked good in the 17 games that he did play, averaging a cool 16.6 points and 4.6 assists against the likes of #6 Kansas, #7 Oklahoma State, #10 Oregon, #25 Baylor, and Harvard, while doing well in a match up with likely top-10 pick Marcus Smart.

Those numbers are rather awesome. Must be some reason he isn't rated very high. Is it the knee or the level of competition?

NBA draft rumor: Multiple league sources believe that Zach LaVine has a promise from the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 13.

— Alex Kennedy (@AlexKennedyNBA) June 25, 2014

I like it. Never saw him play just getting a good vibe that this guy will be a better pro than he was a college player. Nothing logical or scientific. Just a vibe.

Would Lebron returning to Cleveland make Love do a 180 on this?

McHale got a decent deal. The biggest problem was Kahn blowing the draft pick on Flynn. If he'd taken Curry, McHale's KG trade would look WAY better.

IMO 6-17 and Sully sucks. Add one of the future Nets picks it doesn't suck too bad. Add two of the Nets picks and I say do it.

Keep in mind that while the Boston deal gets us the 6th pick, it also helps us be bad this coming year so that our own pick next June is high. The highest pick we get could/should easily be our own next year - hopefully in the top 5. I would much, MUCH rather have a top 5 pick next year than one in the 10-13 range.
