Pro Football lost a true hero today
Art Donovan died at age 88
His story-telling during the 70's and 80's made him a huge celebrity after his playing days.
Kept alive the "good old days" of the league.

I remember him being on Letterman a few times. The man was hilarious. . .sure the clips are on YouTube or something somewhere.

In more "good ahead, just keep hitting your thumb with that big hammer" news ......

One day after ripping rookie Geno Smith for a "brutal" practice, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan made the anticipated decision Thursday, naming Mark Sanchez the starter Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

RG III takes reps against starting defense

The decision is out of his hands, but it still lies in his knee. So quarterback Robert Griffin III continues to show the Redskins, and the doctors, that he will be ready for the Sept. 9 season opener against Philadelphia.

Watching Russell Wilson against GB

It is amazing watching him. He is in his 2nd year and he is so much smarter on what to do with the football than a 10 year vet like Vick.

Wilson knows how to slide. He knows how to get rid of the ball.

If he was 4 inches taller he would have been the first pick in the draft. IMO, he controls the game better than Luck or Griffin

It's easy to like all those QB's, but Wilson just appears to be so much in control. Never seems to be hurried, never panics and sees the field (and not just his read option) so well. It will be fun to watch all three of them. One day we get one of those, right?

I hate to think how many INTs he would have thrown if he HAD panicked.

Are you trying to say that his 10 INTs were a lot?

No, I'm talking about the 2 INTs he threw in one half of play in the game they were commenting on.

You think one of those 3 guys will play for the Vikings someday, when they are pushing 40 ?

In two playoff games Wilson put up almost 700 yards of offense, 4 TDs, and only one pick. He had a 102 QB rating

If Ponder plays like that in the postseason we can go far

QB Tyler Bray looked VERY impressive to me against the Packers. He has an arm, and appeared to make very good decisions. He also just missed on a fairly long TD in the 4th quarter, that might have been a TD if the WR had just adjusted a little better to the ball.

Weren't there a few posters pushing for him on draft day ? Keeping with the idea of drafting college teammates, maybe it would have been a good idea for the Vikes to draft Bray. I think he would have beaten out McBLT for QB3.

Flynn has got be ready to blow his stack now!!!

For Terrelle Pryor, it's the culmination of a bumpy road. For Matt Flynn, it's deja vu all over again.

The Oakland Raiders have named Pryor the team's Week 1 starting quarterback, according to multiple reports.

Pryor, the Raiders' third-round pick in the 2011 supplemental draft, took the first snap with the first-team offense during a drill in the portion of practice open to the media on Monday.

Oakland coach Dennis Allen said Monday afternoon that he would refrain from announcing a starter for "competitive" reasons.

The offense produced 32 points on 14 drives with Pryor at quarterback, compared to 10 points on 13 drives this preseason for Flynn. Flynn played mostly with and against starters, while Pryor was in mostly with second-team players.

Flynn, a six-year veteran, will serve as the team's backup, according to reports, a position he's familiar with.

Flynn has started exactly one game since the start of the 2011 season, a 31-of-44 performance in which he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns and one interception while starting for the Green Bay Packers in place of Aaron Rodgers. On the strength of that game, Flynn earned a contract from the Seattle Seahawks prior to last season, before losing out on the starting job in the preseason to then-rookie Russell Wilson.

The emergence of Wilson made Flynn expendable and the Seahawks dealt him to Oakland where again, he was presumed to be the team's Week 1 starter -- at least until Monday night.

This is a HUGE indictment on Flynn's ability as a QB.  I, at one time, hoped we would go get him...NOW I am very thankful we stayed away.

However, Flynn played against the first stringers in preseason where Pryor played mostly against second stringers.  As things get more sped up and complex in the regular season, Pryor is going to struggle.  I wouldnt' be surprised to see Flynn take over and "save the day".

Still, to lose out two years in a row to unproven understudies...that's a bad sign.  Flynn was going to be another Scott Mitchell at best.

I am not sure

I was a big proponent of the Vikings getting Flynn but now that doesn't look so good.

However

1. Russell Wilson may have been the best QB in last year's draft so losing out to him is not a huge indictment

2. The Raiders suck and I will be SHOCKED if Pryor plays well. I think his success in the preseason was due to facing 2nd string players. If Oak switched places perhaps Flynn would have looked better.

We shall see if Flynn ever gets a chance to start again

Vikes might be able to get Flynn for cheap next year, and they MIGHT want him. But let's hope NOT !

I thought Flynn was worth a shot for the Vikes this year if he didn't cost too much, and if he could beat Ponder out in pre-season. I'm not ready to say I was wrong about Flynn, as I think it's still too small of sample size. Once he's started 16 games, then I think we'll have a pretty good idea. I think the Raiders will suck, if Pryor can't hang onto the job, I think Flynn might play but probably not do all that much with the poor supporting cast.
