Cease led the AL in WAR in 2022.

So what?

Twins are considering a trade of EmmRod, Christian Vazquez and cash to the Padres for Dylan Cease.

That is very close. Way better than Paddock, Vazquez, Zebby, and Keschall that I saw at one time....

No way would I give up Rodriguez for a one year rental.

And led the league in walks.

That said there is something to be said for a guy that you can comfortably pencil in for 32 starts - even if he rarely makes it through the 6th inning.

I don't want to give up Rodriguez either but.

1. Walker Jenkins is going to render Rodriguez obsolete
2. New ownership may very well try to keep Cease, unlike the current ownership. So it wouldn't necessarily be a rental.

The rotation would be pretty damn good with Cease, Lopez, Ober, Ryan as your top four and Woods-Richardson, Matthews and Fest to compete for the 5.

We aren't making this trade without giving up something valuable. We have way too many left handed hitting outfielders, a manager that doesn't like letting left handers hit against left handers.

If the cost is an overpriced underwhelming Catcher, One good albeit replaceable (with Jenkins) AAA outfielder and some cash...I can live with that.

They also say there are 3-4 pitchers in AAA ready to help the Twins in 2025: Connor Prielipp, Andrew Morris, Marco Raya, and Cory Lewis.

1. Walker Jenkins will not render Rodriguez obsolete. The Twins currently have 3/4 of one bankable OF star. They need a lot more than just Jenkins out there.

2. We have no idea who the new owners will be, let alone how much they will spend to try to keep Cease.

3. Cease is set to be FA for the first time after the season. His not going to pass that up and the bidding war will be fierce.

I get that to get value you have to give up value. What I'm not willing to do is give up our #2 prospect for a one year rental.

Corey Koskie is going into the Twins HOF. He still has the only 25-25 (HR-SB) season in Twins history.

Skor North was Talking Twins. Guess which former Twin with 4 WS titles was about 2 good seasons away from being considered HOF material? He retired fairly early from baseball.

I'd rather trade Julien (useless) and one of those four pitchers for Cease. Keep the young hitters (Rodriguez, Jenkins, Keaschall). You add Cease and two quality arms for the pen and this Twins team is pretty good (if the hitters stay healthy).

Amount of money the MN Twins have spent since the beginning of the 2024 FA period is 2nd to last currently....only Miami has spent less.

In 2023, the Twins, at last, won a postseason game for the first time since 2004, after losing 18 in a row. That made Twins fans very happy, in no small part because it meant people would stop bringing it up. But then they went down in four games to the Astros and, in 2024, missed the postseason entirely despite three other teams in their division making it to October. A 12-27 finish was the culprit, dropping Minnesota out of a Wild Card spot.

That speaks to the overall issue here: The Twins can’t stay healthy and upright enough to rule this division the way their fanbase believes they should. That looks like the issue once again in 2025. If Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis can’t stay on the field, it’s going to be difficult for this team to win, especially given its lack of significant offseason additions.

Everyone has injuries. The Twins don't have enough depth to overcome them.

Same thing every year. If everyone up and down the roster stays healthy AND has a season at least equal to or exceeding their career projections, they’ll be decent.

It never happens. By June they’ve gone through 25 pitchers, they’ve got a handful of guys injured, another handful underperforming. And we’re told to be patient and next year might be better.

They have depended on their Minor League system more and more.....because it of course is cheaper that FA.

The Mariners are reuniting with infielder Jorge Polanco on a free-agent contract, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Thursday night. The club has not confirmed the deal, which is expected to guarantee him $7.75 million with a $7 million base salary for 2025 plus a $750K buyout on a player/mutual option for 2026, according to a source.

Polanco -- who is expected to play third base this season for Seattle, per a source -- entered last season as one of six middle infielders who had produced an OPS of .750 or better in each full season from 2019-23, joining Jose Altuve, Corey Seager, Bo Bichette, Xander Bogaerts and Trea Turner.

But after being traded from the Twins to the Mariners, Polanco had a tough 2024 season in Seattle. Polanco saw his OPS dip to .651, and he set career lows in batting average (.213) and on-base percentage (.296). His strikeout rate, which stood at 18.2% for his career, soared to 29.2%.

It's called propaganda. You've got sucker some of these fans into still paying attention even though they have no intention of trying to win.
