The league is saying it. We're ready for you to be the darlings of the league for a bit. Grab some rings while you can.

The last 3 years have all been similar wrt expectations.

Year 1. No one expected much. We exceeded expectations by a lot. Even with the 1st round fizzled

Year 2. No one was expecting much and we met the mark.

Year 3. Everyone was happy again as we very much exceeded expectations. But still fizzled in round 1.

This year's different. We now need to meet expectations. And most are going to pinpoint at or around NFCCG level to do that.

And that's super exciting bc we are legit in a SB window. You'd have to have a biased or ignorant take on them to not be seeing it.

I think this is set up incredibly well for JJM to succeed. With his mindset...no way he's going to let his self be the reason we don't stack a ton of wins.

This is the time.

Actually neither opinion passes reason under the unbiased lens. We might be the most mysterious team in terms projecting W/L record, etc. But beyond hoping we are set at QB and even CB, there is no valid reason to think we are SB contenders for 2025.

I think we are better suited than last year but agree. Until both of the lines prove they've been adequately fixed, it's a crap shoot. No joke. If we had to play Philly last year in the playoffs they could have lined up for the tush push on first and 10 and marched right down the field all game long if they wanted to.

We could win 2 SB's in a row and in the off-season leading up to our 3Peat run you'd still have the same people being reserved.

Conversely, we could not make or win a the next 10 SB's and "someone" will still be a believer year 11.

Week 1  Chicago- Win- Will need to see more from Caleb Williams and co before I'm ready to move them up from the cellar or the NFC North
Week 2- Atlanta- Win- Kirk wont be playing yet so no revenge factor
Week 3 - Bengals- Win- This one could be a shoot-out, but we have a better defense and our offense will keep pace
Week 4- Pittsburgh- Win- With some radom guy at QB I like our chances to win this one going away.
Week 5- Browns- Win- It's the friggin Browns for cripes sake
Week 6- Bye- We win this by default.
Week 7- Eagles- Loss- Close on but even at home I think we are due for a step back.
Week 8 Chargers- Win- another close one but I think we pull it out
Week 9- Lions- Loss- I think we split this year but at their place I think they get the victory
Week 10- Ravens- Win- Derrick Henry is going to age at some point.....right?
Week 11- Bears- Win- Maybe their offense is coming together and maybe Williams is spending a lot of time painting his nails while the defense in on the field.
Week 12- Packers- Loss- In Lambeau i'm going to give it to them although it hurts to type it.
Week 13- Seahawks- Win- I think Sam Darnold magic was more KOC than SD so we'll see.
Week 14- Washington- Loss-
Week 15- Dallas- Win
Week 16 Giants- Win
Week 17- Lions- Win
Week 18- Packers- Win

So 13-4 with four wins heading into the playoffs. I'd take it.

And there are a small minority of fans who annually, like clockwork, act out those extremes - beginning with SB here we come and ending with I'm done with these losers forever!

Being a fan thinking this is the year is one thing, labeling those who can't see that as ignorant and biased is another.

You're right, Bill. I take it back.

It's gotta be enough for me to stand with my feelings wo dismissing any alternate thoughts.

Not something that's part of your MO. Just saying whoa now.

Best roster in who know how long! But the pivotal piece is a total questionmark. I lean to JJM being good compared to lousy, especially with the redshirt year, but who knows and bumps along the way should be expected. You're right in that he is surrounded with players and a situation that couldn't be better (very good OL on paper anyway).

After an up-and-down final season at USC, Caleb Williams was unsure of what he wanted to do as he prepared for the 2024 draft. At the NFL combine that year, he met with Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell. The two hit it off, and Caleb Williams began to dream of what it would be like to play for Minnesota.

"I need to go to the Vikings," he told his father.

"Let's do it," his father replied. But both Caleb and Carl knew that a trade to a divisional rival was extremely unlikely.

I'm going to turn 63 during this season.

I remember all 4 super bowl losses, the Drew Pearson push, off and countless playoff heartbreaks. I haven't been optimistic as a fan since I was in Junior High school.

I've really set my self up for disappointment this and hopefully the next 5-10 years.

I have been this excited about the Vikings short and long term outlook since the mid 70's. It just feels different this year to me?

I'm going to be disappointed if we're not at least in the conference championship, even with the 5th toughest schedule.

The roster, coaching, and intangibles haven't been this well aligned since the Moss rookie year......and I think this coaching staff has overachieved every year. Denny took a lot of grief but we were in the playoffs every year---KOC has to take the next step.....overachieve in the regular season (like he has) and step up your game against the highest level of coaches in the playoffs.

I would still like another solid CB but other than that, I don't worry about the D. Flores is great and we have adequate depth should one of the new guys go down.

The O, on the other hand, scares me a bit. I think JJM will be fine but like Bill said you gotta expect some bumps along the way. Should he get hurt again or just plain stick....I think Howell can do enough to get us to the playoffs. KOC has won games with guys a lot worse than SH.

That said, we are a major injury (or a couple minor ones) on the OLine away from another blah year for them. The starting 5 looks great but the depth is pretty weak.

o'connell is going to start the season running the '23 Michigan offense and work mccarthy into a groove....

i still think that we're bringing in cousins as QB #2....
