Toby Stumbo -> General Vikes Talk (3/13/2025 11:39:09 AM)

Time for a new thread, speed things up a bit.

Love this! We are crushing this off season.

What do you guys now think is our weakest position group?

I'm now thinking, OL, DB's and WR's.

Murph -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/16/2025 10:09:20 AM)

The best thing that happened to this team was losing the last 2 games last year against the two teams they lost to.

I really think it magnified our weakness and taught the whole organization a lesson.

I think you’re right. What was not good enough WAS going to be exposed. Now it’s been addressed and we surely are not done.

I said/told myself I was checking out until they were in the SB. I made it March of the 1st off season. Not bad.

Good to have you back Todd!!

I have been sooo pessimistic about this team through the Kirk years and then Kwesi's first trade and draft. I wasn't sure if they had another legitimate run in my lifetime. This the most optimistic about the short term and long term future of the team since the mid 70's.

Just, for the love of God, stop with the Aaron Rogers BS.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/16/2025 12:43:38 PM)

Thanks, Murph.

AR would deflate me fast. Otherwise, I was able to take a step away from football. Didn’t watch a single playoff except ours and I went offline to a degree I managed to avoid knowing who won the SB for 2 whole weeks.

And now I feel better about it all. Football/Vikings at least.

I’m growing out my goatee. I can get a braid in it but the moustache has to grow to where the beard is. Should be ready to be released by the start of the season.

QB.

Three new threads are in place for the die-hards:

"Trade our 1st + what else with Seattle to get Darnold"

"We have cap, Cousins likes cap"

"Anything Rodgers, for the days our brains are disengaged"

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/18/2025 10:08:06 AM)

Pat Kirwin on NFL Radio's "movin the chains" thinks Rodgers wants way more money than the Vikings would be willing to give him and thinks Rodgers is likely using the Vikings to drive up the price for the Steelers and Giants.

I like that take. eases my mind that the Vikings really don't want Rodgers. I hope they come to their senses soon. Sign a Flacco or Tannehill and move on.

Please let it be true. Id rather give Flacco 5 million and draft another later.

Need a draft thread.

Are there any Guards that would be available as 1st off the board worthy but worth #25?

General consensus is Rodgers wants to be here and he wants a contract similar to what Darnold got from the Hawks.

Also seems like the decision on Rodgers is totally up to KOC. And people in the know do not think he wants him here.

Old Discount Double Check loves the attention.....he knows he would get a ton more being on the Vikings. I am more worried about the Wilfs wanting him here than KOC.

They loved the attention Favre brought to the Vikings.

He brought nothing but negative attention last year.

Its all up to KOC.

I think Rodgers would love to be here. Especially with the improved line and deeper running back pool. This would easily be the best situation he could step into.

KOC is playing diplomat. Don't say no before you have to say no.

It would be different if this was 35 year old Rodgers. Father Time has hurt his skills. He misses throws, isn't as athletic and is more injury prone. Then throw in all the other drama and it is an easy decision. NO.

Add to it he wants Darnold money/contract. He isn't settling for 1 year 5 million. He wants a 3/100 and hold you hostage during all the camps and the next 2 seasons.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/19/2025 1:22:19 PM)

Thrilled that we’re going forward with JJM as our #1.

Can’t say I hate where things stand after 3 years under KAM’s direction. This could be an amazing decade of winning.

Let it be this group. And soon!

‘Can’t say I hate where we’re at’ March 19 is a good way to say it for me.

We have a chance to be better than last year’s team depending on how JJM comes along. On paper and on paper only - we seem to have shored up different spots … outside of QB.

Even though we have been dilly dallying around a back-up, I like this comment (true or not):

“According to Pelissero, the Vikings quickly retracted their offer to Jones when they heard he was leaning towards the Colts. If he didn't clearly want to be in Minnesota, they were moving on.
"When they got the sense that Daniel Jones was not committed and convicted, they pulled the offer," Pelissero said on KFAN Radio.”

They worked hard with him and he didn't want to stay---don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Exactly right.

I much prefer the ‘take it or leave it’ approach to the ‘wooing and jilted’ outcome.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/20/2025 10:55:42 AM)

This is especially meaningful since the interview happened well after Bynum signed with Indy:

One day after news broke that the Minnesota Vikings are allegedly not pursuing Aaron Rodgers, it appears to be full steam ahead on the J.J. McCarthy train.

Safety Cam Bynum, who starred for the Vikings before signing a free-agent deal with the Colts, appeared on Good Morning Football Thursday and called McCarthy a football "maniac" who was a "gunslinger" in practice before suffering a season-ending torn meniscus during the preseason.

"I trust him. J.J.'s somebody that I trust. Just a leader, first and foremost," Bynum said. "The way that he carried himself as a leader but also still following the right way and still listening and humbling himself to learn from the other guys.

"But the one thing that stood out to me from him, as soon as he got in, he was throwing that ball. He was a gunslinger in practice. First and 10, simple concepts, he's throwing the deep ball, he's trying to fire it downfield. That's something that I respected out of a rookie. Going forward after his injury, he's sitting there in the defensive team meeting room trying to learn our defense and trying to learn any way he can. He's kind of a maniac when it comes to football."

With Rodgers apparently in the rear-view mirror, McCarthy optimism is likely to run rampant in the media, both local and national. It's already happening with Tom Pelissero reporting Thursday morning that McCarthy's knee isn't and issue and he's regained the weight that he lost while recovering from surgery, now reportedly weighing between 207 and 209 pounds.

"The way that he carried himself while he was hurt, I can only imagine how he'll carry himself when he's healthy," Bynum added. "When they give him the keys to the program to be able to go and just carry himself as that leader, and they let him know 'you're the guy, we're rolling with you,' I think J.J.'s going to grow. And like I say, J.J.'s somebody I can trust."

This echoes what was said about McCarthy before and after the draft. Total football junkie with his nose constantly in the playbook.

NFL scout on JJ McCarthy: "Before he signed, he was telling other Michigan recruits that if they wanted to party and chase girls, go somewhere else. His class was going to be the one that restored Michigan. To have that mentality and then actually go achieve it? He's different."
