Not sure if anyone has raised this issue; would we be willing to pay Flores more money than we’re paying O’Connell?… I would.

After the glorious winning streak, picking at #18.

Sucks because probably takes us out of the Love or Downs sweepstakes.

Not in the least. Kwesi has a glut of picks from 2026, 2027 and 2028 if he needs to move up a spot.

And there are 3-4 CBs that are supposedly (who knows) good prospects and a couple could be in the #18 range.

I don't trust Kwesi with pick 1, 9 or 18 so, unless we get a new GM, I think we're screwed, regardless of draft position.

.
I’m hoping we fire Kwesi, and hire a football guy.

I didn't think Flores was going anywhere this off season, but I didn't anticipate John Harbaugh being fired.

I now think there is a decent chance Flores is going to be the head coach for Baltimore, and an outside chance he ends up the head coach for Cleveland or Arizona.

Baltimore makes the most sense.

"Meanwhile, SI.com‘s Albert Breer lifted up the full package for Carolina’s haul, “The Panthers turned their seventh-rounder this year into a fifth-rounder, and their fifth-rounder in 2027 into a fourth-rounder in the trade (All picks are the teams’ slotted picks). Thielen had 8 catches for 69 yards this year for the Vikings.”

So, yes — the Vikings got got.

Had we released Theilen prior to week 11 these picks would not have elevated.

So Atlanta moves almost all of Cousins 2026 salary into 2027 whereby the latter totals $68M and becomes guaranteed if he's around on March 13. That of course is raw meat for Cousins as he stands on the precipice praying heavily that Atlanta forgets to notify the NFL that they've cut him or there is an unprecedented technical snafu like a nationwide communication blackout that lasts through March 14.

AND the 7th rounder Carolina was to send us would have elevated to a sixth if he had played a max of 10 games.

7th to 5th
5th to 4th
6th to 7th (Carolina)

In summary, Kwesi keeps AT just long enough to lose 1-2 rounds on each of three picks, the tipping point being a week 11 healthy scratch. Then almost immediately AT says release me. Kwesi does. If you tried, you could not have scripted an outcome any worse for the Vikings.

My best case scenario, at this point, is to lose Flores and take back Cousins.

It's simply the fastest way out of this regime.

Are the Kirk stans in the room with us?

Exactly. I would hate it but I'm trying to determine what KOC "wants". I was listening to a pod on Skor North yesterday and sat there nodding my head in agreement and being filled with disappointment at the same time.

Their basic premise is that KOC hates when QB's go off script. He wants them to execute his plan to a T. Who is that kinda guy? You guessed it, KC's. He won't audible, call TO's ect...just execute the play as designed.

I hate it but it makes a lot of sense and ATL just basically said we are cutting him soon. It's been widely reported that they offered the gig to Jones for around 12-15 million but he wasn't assured a starting spot. My guess is they try and bring KC's back for that same type of deal.

The off script piece is a very interesting point, and backed up with at least anecdotal evidence. Somewhat related, it was a blast to see Childress have a conniption when Favre went off script. I think Favre relished it.

I doubt we go after Cousins. At his age and declining ability, he doesn't fit what we are trying to do.

I do believe we make a huge effort to improve QB room. KOC never wants another year like last year.

Mac Jones could be a possibility. Maybe we call Baltimore and Cincy and see how steep the price those guys would be.

I remember when we would get inside the 5. Childress would want to go jumbo and Favre wanted to spread out the defense with 3 WRs. Favre's way seemed to bring easy TDs. Either running it in against light box or hitting a WR against single coverage.

And Chili would grimace even more than normal after a successful audible!

Percy Harvin should be in Viking lore for throwing a weight at Childress.

This is crazy:

The New York Jets defense recorded zero interceptions during the entire 2025 NFL season, becoming the first team in league history (since stats began in 1933) to achieve this infamous milestone.

Raiders Interested in Vikings DC Brian Flores: Report

On January 4, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio revealed that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady will play a significant role in the search for a new head coach and is keen on a couple of former New England Patriots coaches.

“There’s a rumor currently making the rounds that, once Brady rolls up his sleeves… he’ll make the case for bringing in Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, ” Florio wrote. “As the chatter goes, Flores would be the head coach, and former Giants coach Brian Daboll would be the offensive coordinator. Like Flores, Daboll has extensive experience with the Patriot Way. Daboll was there for the first three Super Bowl wins of the Brady/Belichick era, and for two of the second trio of championships.”

ESPN analyst Benjamin Solak followed suit, naming Flores the favorite to land the Raiders job.

Sure.

But it won't happen. Instead we'll continue a long-standing tradition:

Keep Green and let Dungy go.

Keep Childress and let Tomlin go.

Keep KOC and let Flores go.

I hope we don't get outbid if he (Flores) stays a DC.

Last point on KC's that I forgot to mention in my post. The thought is not bring in KC's to dump JJM. It's a 1 year bridge where:

you hope JJM gets it in the offseason and doesn't get hurt
you have comp that can play at a league average level if either of the above don't happen
doesn't break the bank since we are already way over the cap
you can't pry a big move guy like Burrow/Jackson ect

Hate to admit it as I was once a Stan but I don't want Kirk back.
Most of the reason I didn't want Darnold back.......your goal is to compete for a Super Bowl. JJM has more moxy than either to get there; questions is can he stay healthy and keep improving to that high level. He did improve as the season went on.

I want JJM to improve to but is it likely?

You can teach him to take something off his throws(not all fastballs) in the off season? But will it stick in the regular season when a pass rush is coming at him or he has to improvise?

I guess it worked for Josh Allen but that is definitely not the norm.

Absolutely.

Working on his numerous bad habits merely sounds great on some random field in the offseason or even in preseason. But so far he mostly reverts to form, some dyed in the wool thing. The aforementioned "moxy"? Easily confused with a mentality that is almost like a high schooler... rah rah and watch me throw this bullet.

Arm, footwork, reading defenses, multiple injuries... no way can he go into next season as the #1 QB option.

Josh Allen cut back on fastballs, but he has yet to get a ring, has yet to make it to a Super Bowl.

Brett Favre cut back on fastballs, but his 2 Super Bowls (1 win, 1 loss) were early on, every year after that was pretty much a season ending INT in a playoff game.

Well, it looks like Brian Flores is going to be a top HC candidate for at least two teams. Not likely to return.

The likely replacement will come from in-house. Daronte Jones most likely.

The defense will most likely take a step back next year....so getting the offense to step up will be paramount.

He won games Kirk and Sam couldn't....on the road prime time against Detroit and Chicago. His record as qb is better on the road actually.

The key is who is available. At worst you need a Jones (Mac or Danny) as a backup.
