Lindsay Whalen put the team on her back yet again in the fourth quarter. Whalen scored all eight of her points and emotionally fueled a 14-3 run midway through the quarter that put the game out of reach for Washington. There were doubts as to how well the Lynx would be able to re-integrate their starting point guard back into their system after she had missed the 12 games prior to this series. Those doubts have been quieted by her stellar play in three straight Lynx victories.

Lynx vs Sparks

Who's favored? I'm thinking LA's youth wins out over our old, tired legs. Whalen's injury could end up being a blessing in disguise though. Seems rejuvenated. Go Lynx!

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/18/2017 9:02:13 AM)

There is really no appreciable age difference between the Lynx and Sparks.

Look up the rosters yourself if you don't believe me.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/18/2017 10:27:09 AM)

Last year we were flat out robbed by Refs who didn't know the rules or were too cowardly. I still consider us the champs despite the official result. Get them again Lynx.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/18/2017 10:45:34 AM)

Maya Moore is the key to this series.

She absolutely can not let Alaina Beard take her out of the game like she did in all 3 match-ups this year.

10, 12 and 10 points won't cut it for one of the best players in the league.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/18/2017 11:06:53 AM)

Cmon gals
Get ER done
One more time.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/18/2017 11:14:12 AM)

Regardless of what Beard was able to accomplish in the regular season, I expect Maya to be a big game player. I believe she and Fowles will at least negate Parker and Ogwumike.

I think the Whalen / Augustus back court is the key. I kind of look at them like the late career Parker / Ginobli tandem. The back court is the one place where the Sparks have a youth advantage, but Lindsey and Simone have the experience and have been together for years now. They just execute without thinking about it. The other X factor will be how much more Parker gets away with vs the other stars. Still say she is one of the dirtiest players and gets with it non stop.

TJ, I've noticed you have been stalking SMF's and twinsfan's posts lately.

LA is the 3rd oldest team in the league just behind Phx being in the #2 slot.

.
It will be Brunson who will spend the majority of the time hounding Parker. Brunson deals with her better then anyone else in the league. Parkers going to get some, because she's that good but Brunson will spend the series looking to get under Parkers skin.

There really are so many “keys” in this series that people could point to.

With Reeve and Agler, it’ll be a chess match from the bench.

LA does have the younger, a bit quicker and shorter backcourt in Sims & Grey then they have E. Carson & Syd Weisse (sp) the big 3pt specialist that Agler might let play when he wants to try hurting us w/3pt shooting . Whalen, Augustus (Montgomery, Perkins) are no pushovers. So key to me will be keeping the turnovers down.

Defensive player of the year Alena Beard (same draft class as Whalen & Brunson) & Maya match up at SF will be a battle. My hope is Maya doesn’t try to rush the scoring, maybe play a little gm w/Beard & use her aggressive style against her & get her into foul trouble a gm or two; find other ways to be productive till she has a feel for where she can get shots. I want to see Maya be smart yet aggressive early.

In the post you have Parker & Ogwumike (J. Lavander) vs. All-defensive team members Brunson & MVP Fowles (along w/P. Pierson & N. Howard) With Pierson retiring at the end of the season we’ll get all she’s got left, so hoping she saved the best of it for last  and gotta have quality mins from Howard otherwise Reeve is likely to forget she’s on the bench.

Now, occasionally LA will play the "BIG" line up w/Lavander in moving CP to guard the SF/Maya, Beard slides to the 2 spot (PG doesn't matter) and that's when I think our post should really go to town, Lavander can't guard aggressive Syl or Brunson & CP can't come down & help if she's trying to stick w/Maya.

This is just a REALLY interesting series with a ton of talent on the floor. [sm=boxing.gif]

I'm going to do my best to watch every game.

Lynx getting run out of the gym. 20-2 in the 1st...

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 3:04:33 PM)

28-5...

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 3:40:55 PM)

Lynx fall behind to an unreal 28-2 margin, but owned the second quarter to come within 42-32 at the half. A big factor also is Candace Parker has 4 fouls at the half.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 4:10:20 PM)

One of the role players for the Sparks Chelsea Gray is launching rainmaker threes and hitting a bunch. Despite this the Lynx are within six behind some excellent shooting from Augustus.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 4:39:18 PM)

lynx tied the game and then a foul call on Moore on what could have easily been called a jump ball. I'm probably a minute or two behind watching over the internet, but our ball down by one with just over a minute to go.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 4:50:29 PM)

Maya Moore on a fast break gives the Lynx the lead with 6.5 seconds, but Chelsea Gray can't freaking miss and nails the game winner for the Sparks. 27 points for the role player her career high.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/24/2017 4:51:23 PM)

To come back from a 28-2 deficit to take the lead with 6.5 seconds remaining and then lose. It doesn't get much more heart breaking than that.
